That’s the frightening thing. As a Briton watching the rapid decline of civil conduct and honesty amongst Republican politicians I realise this reflects the Republican base. There is a rejection of decency, moral behaviour, common sense, and a sense of reality. Amongst Republicans there is a serious and dramatic collapse in the whole belief in democracy and fair elections, and a worrying embrace of authoritarianism. If that happens, and Trump is in power, that is the end of America as the bulwark of protection for liberal democracy across the world. Anything will go, it will be anarchy on the international stage, China and Russia will be free to commit any atrocity they choose, and invade any peaceful country they consider easy pickings.

The point IS that MTG wanted to make sure that the (former) President knew that it was a recommendation that a way to make it work was to declare martial law. Also you don't know she was just passing along a message, that's what she claims to absolve herself of guilt because she is spineless.
