My overall conclusion... a year ago when the Anniversary Edition came out, I played vanilla with CC content. No mods. The backpacks during my playthrough were actually surprisingly helpful. My reasons being that one, it didnt take up any existing spots for armor and jewelry which made it super helpful for making better builds. And two, it adds in good enchantments that can be useful late game as well as early game. That extra 75 points to carry weight helps quite a bit. Also having the unique secondary enchantments can also help tons for all builds. Yes. There are mods out there that give you more carry weight like the Pouches and Bandoliers mod or the Simple Backpacks mod, but these base backpacks are still very useful even with those mods. The CC backpack creations offers variety and versatility with all builds in game. I actually recommend it for people looking to play more stylized builds. *The Hunter backpack paired with the Bow of Shadows wrecks by the way. Same with the Mage backpack and most magic trees.*

They are hella useful but I wish there was an option to hide them like how Blades gives you an option to hide your helmet (although that's a very useless feature anyway). And Thief backpack IMO is the worst. As a console player, I have vibrating controllers, meaning I have to be a 5 year-old to mess up lockpicking. If it was a bonus to sneaking, that would be so much better. So even in a thief build, going with the Mage backpack is a more viable option.

Backpacks are great, even with these and the extra pockets perk I feel like I never have enough carry weight. Although I wish they had a tradeoff, all the bonuses are very weak and enchantments can't be added.
I know stealth archers would kill me but not allowing arrows or even two-handed weapons while your backpack is equipped would be more fun to me for a tradeoff. Bigger bonuses for every other class. The mage could add a magicka regen/spell cost reduction, the Thief a sneak bonus/stronger lockpick bonus, and the Adventurer a stamina/HP regen. The Hunter's pack seems like it's only there because archers are the most popular class but it makes no sense if the quiver isn't on the side of the bag. I know BGS ain't ever touching this game again but it's fun to think about.

Yeah I wish that there was a downside with a higher upside to using some of the backpacks. Would make them a lot more interesting to use in my opinion

Interesting note about the money exploit, never thought of that!

I actually like these backpacks. So I use a mod called Better Backpacks to make them even more useful than the vanilla variant.
