  • The DCEU version of Superman has only appeared in two movies so far, 2013's Man of Steel and 2016's Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, but he's already had a laundry list of impressive feats. Enough at least to get people wondering how strong he is. If you're one of those people, then let's find out!

      I am sorry but the expression "No video, it didn't happen" applies. The feat you are basing his strength on was from a newspaper headline in the background. Did the reporter see him lift a whole plate? Would it be possible to lift a plate? If the force needed to lift a tectonic plate (a major plate is any plate with an area greater than 20 million km2) was exerted to the surface area of even Superman's whole body he would simply push through it. He would be like a knife point on something a few km across not millions of km. Not to mention that in lifting a plate, Superman would do more damage than the earthquake he was trying to stop. Superman lifting a plate would be more newsworthy than any of the events in either of the movies. More likely the reporter was just saying Superman moved a lot of dirt to stop an earthquake.

      what gets me on the space ship thing is people say thats a "limit" he has bc for one second he shows strain
      1. in MOS he held up an oil rig much heavier than that BEFORE realizing his true power
      2. Straining to hold something bulky and akward when you dont want it to drop and be crushed and straining bc it is heavy are two different things. You can clearly see supes readjust and casually walk with the thing like its nothing then the next scene is him dragging an artic tanker ship across the ice like it isnt even there. The strain he has holding the rocket up initially would be that same a normal person would have carrying a large empty cardboard box and having it catch the wind. Its not strain bc its too heavy its strain bc the item is akward and you dont want it to break.

      Hectoruno "shifts"

    • @gustavramirez2891
      @gustavramirez2891 7 лет назад +22

      Plus, Superman's superstrength traditionally also exerts an invisible binding force-field, which keeps gigantic things that he is moving/lifting from falling apart (due to lacking the necessary structural integrity). Hence, Reeve's Superman was able to lift the entire frozen surface of a large lake without it falling apart in his hands, and Routh's Superman was able to lift a Manhattan-sized island without it collapsing around him (and him just falling through it). Therefore it is not at all illogical to assume that Cavill's Superman exerts the same binding force field when necessary, hence the tectonic plate remained together when he shifted it.

He's not wearing spandex like Chris Reeve, Dean Cain, Brandon Routh or Tyler Hoechlin, his suit is much tighter. When Henry Cavill plays Superman i just love it. The way Henry looks, his style and the way he flies is awesome. The best Superman ever. Everyday Superman is in the sunlight, he slowly get stronger and stronger over time. That is a fact. DCU needs to bring back Henry Cavill as Superman period .
    Superman is the best.

    What's cool about DCEU Superman is that he gets tired after using his strength to lift extremely heavy objects. Knowing this he was probably EXTREMELY tired afterwards and a little weakened. His powers have limits too. A baby tectonic plate perhaps. ruclips.net/video/ePx3QRBi0ns/видео.html

    There is a big difference between lifting a tectonic plate vertically, and holding them apart laterally. You wouldn't need to apply as much force to hold them apart. Still incredible to resist such a massive object though!

  • @DarthPyrusTheVirus

    That tectonic plate feat is often labeled as an outlier in strength debates from what I've seen, and I can see why. It makes this Superman unbelievably powerful, which so far hasn't been done justice on screen in the DC movies, making people believe it's just something thrown in without much thought by the writers.

  • @batfan1939

    • @VunderGuy
      @VunderGuy 7 лет назад

      "This guy could actually hang with Pre-Flashpoint and Nu52 Superman"
      No he fucking couldn't. This feat isn't even a typical tuesday for Post-Crises/PreNew52 Superman or New 52 Superman at their best. Tectonic plates are NOTHING compared to actually moving and busting planets, both of which requires orders of magnitude more power to accomplish and accomplish quickly (as we've seen). While great for adaptions in other media, it really isn't much by any mainstream DC comic book universe and DCEU Supes would get wrecked if he thought something as tame as tectonic plate shifting would get him other than a swift kick to the super dick by the still considerably more powerful Supermen in mainstream comic universes.

    • @batfan1939
      @batfan1939 6 лет назад +1

      VunderGuy The best feats I've seen for pre-Flashpoint Superman are moving the moon in and out of orbit, and destroying the two War Worlds during _Our Worlds at War_ by pulling them into each other. I have no problem believing DCEU Supes could do the same.
      Early on, Nu52 was pulling feats like holding up the weight of the Earth for several days continuously, but later on he seemed pretty similar to Pre-Flashpoint Superman.

      how about this: Those movies employ people to make them. Those people have families that, one would assume, like to eat. In those families are kids like your self. Piracy causes loss, which slows down the economy as it is currently structured. When those studios loose money they dont invest as much. That means less people have employment, who then can not spend as much money on extra ( if any) which then slows down the economy some more. This causes a loop of economic loss that leads to recession, then depression. All because your selfish ass pirates movies and game in stead of playing them.

    GVWR is the the vehicle's maximum operating capacity, i.e., the maximum weight under which it can can or should (was designed to) operate, not how much the vehicle actually weighs. That figure is certainly significantly lower (thousands of pounds). The bus was also half to two thirds empty, meaning he lifted significantly less than 10k pounds.

    If the tectonic plate feat actually happened (which the reporter who write that headline would have absolutely no means of witnessing) and Superman had even a fraction of the strength you allege, then all of his other feats you point out would have been absolutely effortless. Unfortunately, we clearly observe him exerting himself with both the rocket and the icebreaker so either the DCEU Superman suffers from horrible writing or that headline was written by a reporter who didn't have a clue.

    By the "Justice League" movie he was casually carrying a five-story apartment building, which is still several dozen orders of magnitude less impressive than shifting a tectonic plate. but I think was the biggest feat we saw on camera, arguably. The gravity ray thing from "Man of Steel" is somewhat vague in its effects.

    I think that the newspaper clipping was just a cool easter egg serving as an homage to the original Superman movie, I don't think that this should be calculated as one of his feats of strength, if it were, why does does he seem to be making an effort in lifting the shuttle or struggling to hold up the oil rig? I'm pretty sure those things are MUCH lighter than a tectonic plate

  • @farmerfb
    @farmerfb 6 лет назад

    My only problem here with granting Supes the movement of the tectonic plates is while the article attributed it's movement to his actions, it doesn't explicitly state how he did it. For all we know he moved them using Kryptonian tech. That makes the premise invalid imo since none of his blows against Doomsday show that kind of force , I mean a single punch at that power level at ground zero would have wiped out the eastern seaboard if Doomsday could have taken all of it.

I do care that he’s apparently able to do that while leaving light footprints in the snow as he pulls the tonnage. Like, friction? Equal and opposite forces? Unless he’s flying and pretending to walk and using pure willpower instead of muscle to pull the ship, how are his feet not entirely crushing the ice beneath him? Each step to pull the ship means the piece of ice is bearing the load, right?
