Thanks so much for doing this video. Chemistry and math generally hurts my brain so you made it easier for me 😁 And I absolutely love the Quin Rose/Cobalt Teal combo. I see hydrangeas with that mixture. Also so interesting to know that some brands granulate better than other in the same color.

I don't have a firm favourite. Yet! Based on what I have bought I definitely seem to like blue-green paints. And purples, never a bad purple. Excited to buy the black and play around with stuff I already have.

SO fun! I LOVE experimenting with my watercolors! It's so cool to see how pigments play with each other. I also love putting salt (fine grain and flakes) on top of my watercolors to see what exciting textures I get. 😍

W&N professional line has a great raw umber with amazing granulation. It might make a good mix with green to mimic cascade green. Haven’t tried it yet. One I have tried is to mix cadmium red (W&N again) with DS manganese blue hue. The DS version is very granulating, unlike some other brands.

Loved this! I ❤ mixing videos. I looked through my paint spreadsheet and I didn’t have any pure PBk11 paints (had it in a mix, but not single pigment), so I ordered the DS version from my local art store, hoping to pick it up later this week. I blame all the beginner watercolour videos that tell beginners to NEVER use black, so I never buy tubes of black paint! Fantastic idea to grab a tube and use it for mixing! I can’t wait to do some experimenting. I also need to do more mixing with burnt umber or raw sienna to see how they mix with my other colours. Thanks for the fun video!! Favourite granulating colour might be Potters Pink, or undersea green, or Geothite. I love them all for landscapes and use them in so many ways!

Such an enjoyable and informative video. It's funny, but on your experimenting page, at about 28:46 min, I am intrigued by the color you dislike. It is the mix of 4 colors on the lower center. Beyond a beach scene with rocks etc, it would make a lovely background on a floral, or perhaps a bird...Love it :) .

Thanks for this helpful info! I guess you’ve reviewed Royal Talens Van Gogh watercolors? I would think they may have some good candidates for granulating. They’re very budget friendly and I consider them to be semi-professional when compared to their more expensive artist-grade sister brand Rembrandt watercolors. The dusk colors in both lines are Royal Talens granulating color mixes.

I love the DS burnt sienna and DS phthalo blue mix! Yes I’m finally watching this after such a long time 😅
I feel like I need to do a #everythingwithmarsblack thing soon (And then I found out that I don’t actually have schminke mars black 😱. Ok…. That’s going on the wishlist… Now I feel the need to update my google sheet with all the pigment numbers, something that I’ve currently only done with the brands that list the pigment numbers upfront on the tube/packaging 😂. But I must have a pbk11 somewhere in my collection I’m sure…. Update: found it, DS lunar black!)
I actually love the results most of your experiments! I’m such a sucker for granulating colors 😂😅

Love the video! I find that my roman szmal ultramarine has more granulation than I like when using it in skies so I was surprised to see not much in your swatch. Mine is in their half pan set so it might depend on which version of PB29 it is. I have tried my own granulating mixes and one thing I discovered is the more water used, the more granulation you see. Watercolor is so fun!

The "super granulating colors " are so beautiful and so expensive but then you read the pigments and realize why the hell are they so dang expensive when the pigments used are generally common pigments and relatively inexpensive. So if I find something that I really want I first try to mix my own colors first and usually I can get close and realize ita not that cool lol but nevertheless they can be beautiful. Have a great day
