    Mr Duke, I have been raising rabbits successfully for a while now and I have a new problem. For the for the first time none of my does cared for the kits. All mage good nests and then although they were born alive, they were all dead later. I had 2 new mamas with 8 and 10 kits and one old mama with 5. And a 2 year old had 11. I touched the babies but I always have with impunity. Maybe I had goat smell on my hands from milking the goat but I’m not sure. Two were in a hutch with a nice box section and two were in hanging cages out of the wind. Do you have any suggestions. I’m expecting a kindle next week.

    • @RuffCut
      @RuffCut  Год назад

      Kat I am curious even if they had good nests if it was too cold for them...its strange it happened to all of them

    • @dionandkat
      @dionandkat Год назад

      @@RuffCut I considered that but the hutch was warmer than the cages with nest boxes and they did not happen on the same day. The first time I thought it was too drafty in the pole barn for a particular cage so I put a leaf of hay on top of the cage and attached siding to the open east side. She made a better nest than the time before but 11 live babies died. Same thing for a well positioned cage that had an experienced doe who lost 5. Two weeks before two new does had 8 and 10. The 8 were good for a day then all dead a few days later. The 10 were all dead upon discovery. I did milk the goat before tending to rabbits. Maybe I need to clean the boxes with vinegar. Any ideas?

    got back into rabbits last year with grain prices and my wife complaining i got back out of it . I was going to raise so cheap meat but i was the only one in the house that will eat it . Well there is a good population of wild rabbits and with my pellet gun i can get them pretty easy. One other huge problem i have is we live right beside the public school and you know how kids are when they saw the rabbits they were naming them and the OHHH there so cute thing so in the end i figured just as well to not do that here, I have several good friends that do pork and beef and i can swap some labor or lumber for some meat.

    • @RuffCut
      @RuffCut  Год назад

      yeah they dont replace beef and pork thats for sure
