    Just did this yesterday, didn't have your video figured it was way to obscure to have it documented. It was an all day affair for me because Linux refused to find/install the dependencies, and then when I tried the docker container that didn't want to work right either. Luckily I did get it working, but I completely took apart my TESSAN A4L and was going to do it via serial... man I am glad I got this working that would have been one heck of a soldering job. Now this is actually my favorite switch! 4 plugs, Tasmota, USB, for about $20 but I cant find more of them to buy anywhere!

    We should contact tuya they are going against customers wishes by patching this. They need to make it easier for custom firmware. They don't loose money from custom firmware I'd anything they make more money from accepting it. Shelly is doing it with Shelly it doesn't even void the warranty if you flash it with a different firmware

    • @TheHookUp
      @TheHookUp  5 лет назад +2

      I did mention that to them when I replied, but the problem is that Tuya is actually selling their product (the Wi-Fi module and cloud service) to other manufacturers, so it is problematic for their business model.

    • @daltonschrader8328
      @daltonschrader8328 5 лет назад +1

      Which is understandable. A majority of their users will use the cloud services due to the fact that most people are not power users they want a plug and play experience. People who flash it make a very small (but important part) of the customer base. If they do block it. Those power users will go elsewhere. And even tho they are only a small part they could in turn find a different company that does fit those needs and that company Kay end of going after tuyas regular customer base.

      Perhaps I am missing the point of your video. Reflashing ESP8266 s has been done many times, so what is suddenly so different about reflashing devices that can be controlled by the tuya app? Connect an FTDI interface and reflash with any software you want, why the fiddling with tuya convert and a raspberry?

      No opening devices, no soldering, huge range of compatible devices, I was able to flash 10 devices in just over an hour... Probably would have taken 6+ hours before, not to mention there are devices that cannot be opened without doing damage.

    Thanks this helped me a lot.. I run Proxmox and i ran into a script that creates a container that uses a wireless card attached to the Proxmox server to run the firmware converter. Here's the link, hope it can help others.
