Man this really sucks! I will definitely miss seeing the China southern A380 at LAX. It was my 1st A380 I saw and is always a highlight every time I go spotting.
But China Southern are obviously doing something wrong if they cannot fill the plane , perhaps when Covid is under control in China they may reintroduce the type,
All 5 China Southern A380's are currently at the Mojave Air and space port in Mojave Ca. 3 for sale and 2 in dismantle. Go check them out before they sell soon. Yes, a few carriers are interested in the 3 China Southern A380's. The oldest one is only 11 years old.
China Southern built a special gate at Guangzhou airport for that thing. Nothing like a 400-person long check-in line to make you wish you had flown something smaller. Besides, it's not like a cruise ship, you cannot walk around and take in its size and the size of the plane did not mean each economy passenger got any more room. I like China Southern but after one experience only booked flights to LAX that used 777's.
Nothing in your comment makes sense. Have you flown any airline A380? Long check in queues are common regardless of the type. It is up to the airline to ensure there are enough counters for the number of passengers whether it is 1 A380, 2 777/A350 or 3 787. There is more room to move around some airlines even have snack areas for economy while Business and First passengers often have bars and lounges. Also what is the width of the standard 10 across A380 18 inches? They are now putting 10 across A350 which is tighter than the standard 777, 787.
Every airport in China has at least a A380 capable gate, Guangzhou has like 10+ of them. Also China Southern sucks at check in, I was in a check in queue for a China Southern A350 to Guangzhou. Beside us was the emirates check in desk, operating a A380 and has no lines at all despite the two planes taking off at roughly the same time
Upper class a380 products for other airlines were highly inferior compared to those of the like of Emirates and Etihad Another factor that sped up retirement is thatChina Southern suffered more by continuing to use it in the pandemic. Other operators saved big by storing and now they are bringing them back This plane wasn't meant for all types of airlines
I think it was a right choice to retire it's A380s because Malaysia Airlines and A380s also never get along for like 9 years and it was also the airline's biggest mistake beesides Qatar Airways until Qatar bring back it's A380s months ago. As of December 2022, China Southern and Malaysia Airlines retired the A380s and both companies are back in the good condition after retiring their Superjumbos. The official retired A380 total is 37
Quad-engine planes are more efficient...less fuel consumed/person moved. A private jet is less efficient than a regional, and regional less so than a 777-300ER. I've only seen the A380 on final approach into LAX a few times, and obviously at cruising altitude.
any full service carrier yearning to operate second hand, refurbished A380-800 double decker wide body quad jets can put up an offer with the full service carrier China Southern to acquire their entire fleet of retired A380-800 . . . additional refurbished A380-800 airframes can be acquired from other A380-800 operators as well . . . for e.g. ex-Air France & ex-Thai Airways etc . . .
A380 should be used for dooms day evacuation from island and have all deck become economy class to fit 1000 people, if there a Tsunami about to wipe out a island or if the Volcano erupes hard and big, they can put all the people on the plane and evacuate the island or other place where Tsunami, volanic activities, or other disaster that would happen.

However China Southern's livery looks very good on the A380.
When the world's most populated country can't use the world's largest aircraft you know it is truly in trouble.

India has overtaken China....
Emirates don't seem to be having any problems

China southern should give their A380s either to Qatar Etihad or Lufthansa in my opinion

This is so sad 😢

Wet lease to GBA on HKG-Japan routes is much better than retiring. HKG-Japan can support A380😢😢

Well that sucks!
What did the plane “said”?
No longer king of the sky!
4:53 what city is that?
Shenzhen
Too much competitions coming in and out of the Gulf Carriers such as Emirates.
Bye bye 👋 rest in peace
I wonder if cz placed these a380 from Guangzhou to India would it make money.
Thai

Malaysia
China
4 this country already retired airbus a380 next?
The footage of Air France landing was made in LAX

Here's the thing. Jet engines doesn't like volcanic ash. See BA flight 009 for more information
It's like DJ said. Better the aircraft than the airline. Survival of the fittest.
