As a Chinese avgeek currently living in Singapore, I hope you enjoyed your visit to my hometown Shanghai and your flight on the C919. By the way, the safety video is very different to the usual China Eastern safety video. They made a more patriotic one just for this occasion.
10:40 - When the C919 was launched, some of the Western Media discredited it by saying that its not entirely made in China because many of its parts are not made in China. What they didn't tell you was that even Boeing planes are not 100% USA, they relied on parts from over 500 differnt companies from countries around the world including China. Yes, engines currently used are from France/US but China is already developing their own 1000A series for civilian aircrafts and these will be ready within a few years. And for those people who said that the C919 has a bleak future because it will never get FAA or Europe certification, the C919 wasn't design to fly over long distantces, it was designed for the China and South East Asia markets so even without the Western markets it still has a bright future.
Well, two can the same game China can withdraw approval for Boeing and Airbus flying over China's skies. Always remember, the world does not belong to you. If you hit China, China can hit back.
Western Media Are Paid To Tell The Worst Types Of Lies About African, South American, Middle Eastern, South Pacific & Asian Countries Telling The Truth Is Not In.Their DNA & Forbidden By Their Governments Too.
I think another problem at the moment is that EASA hasnt issued clearance for C919 just yet, idk about FAA though but I read that CAAC and FAA did sign a joint type certification procedure which means it is actually easier to get approval technically from FAA rather than EASA

Fun fact: Although avionics and engines are supplied by foreign suppliers, the CFM Leap engines are made with raw material sourced from China. And the Collins Aerospace avionics are made with parts and assembled in part in China. Also, the aircraft is not 2 days old. It is 7 years old. The aircraft rolled out the assembly line back in 2017.
Sorry I thought there are multiple test units for C-919, and the first one as you said was produced in 2017. While the first one in service should be produced somewhat near 2021-22? Cheers!

That’s a video that really keeps up with the trend. Hongqiao Airport has been in operation for several decades, dating back from the KMT era. It was the main international gateway of Shanghai until the beginning of 21st century. The terminal 1 is the old one, it mainly serves cross-border flights to Seoul, Tokyo, HongKong, Macau and Taipei, and the low cost carrier Spring Airlines’ domestic flights. Terminal 2 was built at the beginning of the 10s, it is more modern and serves domestic flights within mainland China. Two terminals are at the opposite side of the runways, and are connected by metro and buses. This is a bit similar to Sydney’s Kingsford Smith International Airport.
@@jean-pierresteenberg After what happened with Boeing Max and the FAA. Allowing Boeing to police themselves. I wouldn't be surprised that they ground all the Chinese planes not because of airworthiness issues, but more political ones.
I would certainly fly on one. Aviation requirements are generally quite strict, and these have already racked up quite a few hours of testing and operation.
Great video Noel, thank you. I used to live in Retford then ended up in China via Kazakhstan. I lived in Shanghai (hated it) and moved to Chengdu in 2010. It's actually pronounced "Chung Du" in Chinese. I lived their for 5.5 years before moving to Bangkok. I would describe Chengdu as West China because further west is nothing but mountains! China is an amazing country! I have flown China Eastern to Bangkok and back several times, they seem to be a good solid airline. As a foreigner, I would have to leave China every 3 months for my visa - usually to Hong Kong via Shenzhen or perhaps on holiday. You visited the new airport, which was under construction in my day. While I lived there David Cameron visited, Michelle Obama, Angela Merkel and several other politically connected. I miss Chengdu. Best wishes from Bangkok.
I flew on China Eastern around a decade ago from SFO to CCU (Kolkata) with stopovers in Shanghai and Kunming. I would love to get a chance to fly on a new plane like this. I'm assuming a lot of the local flights in China will transition to these planes.
The aircraft is banned in the U.S n Europe and you want you fly in this aircraft!? 🤦🏻🤦🏻 I value your life more m8. this nearly 3d printed ccp copied aircraft is not safe 😑 😒 😐 😤 can only fly in china 😉 😜
This is why I love your channel Noel, you are literally everywhere, always ready to bring us aeronautical news. Keep up the great work, every new video, you make my day! ✈️🙏 Thank you for that!
Reminds me of long ago when I helped train the China Eastern pilots at what was at the time Delta Connection Academy (Now the L3Harris Academy) at Orlando-Sanford Airport. They got their own King Air for the commercial multi-engine aircraft instead of the Piper Seminoles that everyone else trained in for that last part of the program.
Especially in big cities where there are several airports terminals so knowing which terminal and going to the right one is very important otherwise you'll end up in some unwarranted panic and mad rush.
Lol.... "Can you milk a rabbit....must be tiny little fingers...ah well..." 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣. I used to have that brand when they made those candy or lollies. It's the same brand. The Lollies (or candy) is abit sweet and it's also chewy. Used to have these in Sydney Australia but I guess they don't sell much of that brand anymore. Not too sure. Have to double check in Tong Li supermarket or other Asian supermarkets to see if they have those. Loved those when I was a kid
I'm excited to see how this aircraft holds up in the long run. Seems to be a solid airframe with room to improve and grow. Much like Boeing aircrafts over the years. Only time will tell
Speaking about the "Rabbit MIlk" thing, it's just normal milk (but sweetened), and it's called "Rabbit Milk" because of the brand name, which is "Big Rabbit".
Very interesting film. Give it 7 to 10 years and it will be virtually all Chinese manufactured. Watch them sell it all over Africa and Central Asia in the not to distant future. On a side note Shanghai is very impressive, everything is supersized and can be overwhelming the first time you visit.
Hi Noel Wow I could not fault the aircraft it was amazing. For a large disabled passenger the toilet maybe a bit of a squeeze but other than that it's a big thumbs up from me. I thought the business class seats were exceptionally good 'Yes' I would have no hesitation to fly on this aircraft but in Business class only ✈️ 👍
Just remember that, in Hongqiao Airport, most of the domestic flight all departures from Terminal 2, while Terminal 1 is mostly for International flight and domestic flight of Spring Airlines and Xiamen Airlines.
LOL what milestone? That they can steal IP and build a plane with 75% foreign components that they have no clue how to actually develop a safety and maintenance system around and zero innovation going forward.
Thanks so much for sharing. Looks like an amazing plane. Beats 737 from what I see. Consumers will always benefit from extra competition. Hope to give it a go someday.

I would definitely try a flight on the C919, but it's unlikely to be flying in Europe in the near future and I have no plans to visit China any time soon, although I would like to. Getting a visa is not always straightforward. At first glance, the cabin looked to be a little more spacious at the front and rear; in my experience it's more normal to have one toilet at the front and two at the back on A320s or 737s, so the Comac has an extra one at the front. As Noel says, the aircraft is constructed from parts manufactured in countries all around the world, but then so are Boeings and Airbuses, so nothing unusual there. Nice one Noel, the new Texan!
You can book a multi-city flight via China Eastern or Air China (i.e. UK - Beijing - Korea) and get a free transit visa 144 hours that gives you plenty of time to explore. Flight tickets to asia from Europe with Chinese carriers are usually quite affordable and east asia flights are extremely safe.
0:50 *MYYY GOD, THAT VAN WAS HIIIIDEOUS...!* 15:50 That "rabbit milk" is a brand, similar to Nestle's "Bear Brand", and interestingly enough, it started as 1980s-1990s squishy (milk) candy, and quite popular as well across asian region
Great review 👍 I’d like to fly her too. Just curious if you noticed that the middle seats are wider then the rest as an incentive for those stuck in the middle. Also with cabin moisture so high I’m just curious about corrosion on components as I believe the fuselage is composite. And it would be cool if you had a meter to measure cabin altitude pressure to compare aircraft to aircraft. Just another gadget for you to carry. Safe travels until the next one ☝️
WOW Noel WOW! Flying the COMAC C919 what an incredible achievement and quite a story! 😮 I hope to maybe fly it someday too and also I hate to say it but the C919 looks pretty nice and comparable to the A320neo or B737-8X 🎉 I hope China 🇨🇳 succeeds with this aircraft and I hope COMAC continues strong as more competition makes better aircraft for everyone! Although I think the C919 and A320neo are so similar looking to one another that the B737-8X and the B737 program still looks much much better in my opinion!! 🎉😂 Cheers 🥂 my friend! Excellent video!
Boeing and Airbus are also loaded with parts from other countries and assembled in Europe and US. For example, 30% of parts in the 787 are from non-US compaines. This is how major airliners are built. The parts are sourced from countries that specializes and have a comparative advantage in these parts.

I legit do hope they find more buyers for this plane, it is a legitimately really pretty looking aircraft. I mean its no Concorde or Comet but it is pretty to look at and somehow they managed to make those hideous looking LEAP engines actually look good.
It's not a rabbit milk but the brand! Actually this brand is very popular with milk candies especially with kids! Lokking forward to travel with the C919 this summer too! About the safety concerns since vital parts are imported and proved reliable for years this plane will be fine. Don't forget other modern transport in China such the high speed trains and maglev they got are all doestically made with millions of trips every week and no accidents for years.
I can’t see why it should not turn out to be successful. Problems can happen with new aircraft and the 737 Max certainly proved that. Let’s see how it does in service. Thanks for sharing the experience, look forward to your next adventure.
It doesn’t really serve a competitive advantage vs the MAX or NEO as it’s been in development hell for awhile now. Why order a Comac outside China when it’s competitors are more efficient? They are going to massively subsidize these if they are going to be successful. Which they might do as part of their belt and road initiative. Even then…an operator is going to have to use very specific parts for this aircraft and knowing it can’t fly it in Western countries. A lot of operational question marks too and always long term reliability and safety questions for a manufacturer that’s making a new plane (it’s last jet was ripped from an MD80 so they’re untested on new designs). Right now a lot of government sponsored banks have ‘orders’ to inflate the actual number of customers for the c919…
I guess you will always fly the 737 max even though hundreds of people have died in it and some reports said that it was aerodynamically unbalanced and depends on sensors to constantly detect and balance the lift. I for one believes that sensors and computers do occasionally fail especially if you have to use it continously. I'm a coward, I will not fly the 737.
My first airplane working as cabin crew was a Chinese made MA60. It was a beautiful aircraft, a bit more modern compared to the Boeing 737-500 and 767s that i flew between 2007 and 2015
Very nice review. Cannot wait to take my own flight of C919 when having a chance. 5:53 FYI, one can see many sensors on the plane's front (those black pointy items). It is not a standardized configuration for planes like A320, B737. I hope it will be a trend for all modern planes.
I see two AOA sensors, two pitot tubes and what is probably an air pressure port at the bottom. The starboard side of the aircraft should have at least one more AOA sensor and one more pitot tube. Standard configuration for Airbus but not for Boeing, for some reason. Boeing have generally made do with two of each sensor (don't say 737-MAX).
I flew the C919 on 12/22/23 from Hongchao Airport to Chengdu. It was the most delightful eperience inrecent memory flying B737 seriers in California at leaswt once every month. I must say I could taste a lot of sour apple in Noel's video although he tried very gaciously to add some praises right afterwards. I thank you for that.
We live in a globalised world, nobody should be surprised. Other airlines are no different e.g. Embraer yet don't get the laser-focus on their component supply chains like this new Comac C919.
All airlines in the world, including Boeing and Airbus, have a low self-production rate of their parts, and most of them are bought. After all, civil airlines always have to consider economic benefits. It is cheaper to buy them from a mature supply chain than to build them from scratch.
I always like the “recline or not” discussion 13:16 cuz I believe the extra space you get when people in front of you don’t recline is granted by them. You should feel free to recline, it’s your seat control and seat space. Maybe just don’t complain when you are snugged? (I’m almost the same height as you btw)
Agreed...the seats have a recline button for a reason. Sitting upright for a long flight would be very uncomfortable isn't that why the seats recline 🤔 What do you think Noel ?
Noel, with all of your aviation experience, have you seen any other than planes/satellite anomalies? Maybe you can make a short vid on this subject. Many Thanks!
11:00 I disagree with your point, Boeing and Airbus import a lot of parts of the aircraft from other countries as well, so in that regard they're not USA made or EU made then...they're worldwide made
@@alansmith4655 To be honest, this was my mental state when I flew on the Ryanair 737MAX recently. I was in a tense state the whole time. As a working engineer, I am very worried about Boeing led by an accountant. I watched the development of the 737max. The work documentary, the entire R&D process focuses on cost reduction, competition with Airbus, and management’s intimidation and threats against engineers. It seems that the old 737-800 can reassure me more. For a company like Boeing to lose its safety credibility is very scary. At least for now, as long as I have the choice, I will never buy a Ryanair 737max flight again, even if it will be much cheaper, the whole flight process will make me very nervous.
Though i can say that the C919 may take awhile to compete in the markets, it certainly looks fantastic (I am also imagining what it would look like with the GE90s instead of the Leap Engines)
Boeing has really dropped a large rock on its collective feet. I used to work on the first 737s we had. To keep the same body with its short gears into the present is a financial decision made by the bean counters. An engineer would've bitten the bullet and built a new wing to allow more ground clearance to accommodate wider engines without the shenanigans that is the root of the 737 max's problems. The money printing going on in the USA is another nail in the coffin. The US gov cut funds to FAA leading to the FAA outsourcing certification testing to the manufacturer. This is tantamount to asking a thief to catch the thief!

All these brainless western comments, too embarrassing, seeing sour grapes
10:40 - When the C919 was launched, some of the Western Media discredited it by saying that its not entirely made in China because many of its parts are not made in China. What they
didn't tell you was that even Boeing planes are not 100% USA, they relied on parts from over 500 differnt companies from countries around the world including China.
With every C919 flying a domestic route within China means one less plane needs to be bought from Boeing or Airbus.
Well, two can the same game China can withdraw approval for Boeing and Airbus flying over China's skies. Always remember, the world does not belong to you. If you hit China, China can hit back.
Very true man! Thx for pointing this out, I feel tired to explain it again and again.
Western Media Are Paid To Tell The Worst Types Of Lies About African, South American, Middle Eastern, South Pacific & Asian Countries
Telling The Truth Is Not In.Their DNA & Forbidden By Their Governments Too.

Cheers!
@@bryanleubg B-919A was ex B-001J.

It will make longer trips more tolerable as the low humidity disturbs my sinus.

This is a huge milestone you're surely the first big youtuber to have flown the C919

We loved Chengdu when we visited about 10 years ago and would go back again in an instant. So many interesting things to do there.
welcome to Shanghai! amazing that you made it onto this plane long before many of us living here
I flew on China Eastern around a decade ago from SFO to CCU (Kolkata) with stopovers in Shanghai and Kunming. I would love to get a chance to fly on a new plane like this. I'm assuming a lot of the local flights in China will transition to these planes.
No way. Why? American government bans generators to export to China.

The high speed trains are very good. I took a ride from Shanghai to Hangzhou sometime back. very stable, fast. I enjoyed the quick trip then.
Reminds me of long ago when I helped train the China Eastern pilots at what was at the time Delta Connection Academy (Now the L3Harris Academy) at Orlando-Sanford Airport. They got their own King Air for the commercial multi-engine aircraft instead of the Piper Seminoles that everyone else trained in for that last part of the program.
wow, you contributed to the experience and success of China's aviation industry. nice.
Especially in big cities where there are several airports terminals so knowing which terminal and going to the right one is very important otherwise you'll end up in some unwarranted panic and mad rush.

Hello. Feel free to come to Russia and fly on a MS-21. If it ever flies tho
Maybe in the future
You can book a multi-city flight via China Eastern or Air China (i.e. UK - Beijing - Korea) and get a free transit visa 144 hours that gives you plenty of time to explore. Flight tickets to asia from Europe with Chinese carriers are usually quite affordable and east asia flights are extremely safe.

Great review 👍 I’d like to fly her too. Just curious if you noticed that the middle seats are wider then the rest as an incentive for those stuck in the middle. Also with cabin moisture so high I’m just curious about corrosion on components as I believe the fuselage is composite. Boeing and Airbus are also loaded with parts from other countries and assembled in Europe and US. For example, 30% of parts in the 787 are from non-US compaines.
This is how major airliners are built. The parts are sourced from countries that specializes and have a comparative advantage in these parts.

Don't forget other modern transport in China such the high speed trains and maglev they got are all doestically made with millions of trips every week and no accidents for years.
they always a have moronic response to basic things in other cultures
I bet the C919 will last 6 months before breaking down like everything else they make.

Addendum: on the rollout at the start of the video you can see the other pitot tube and AOA sensor on the starboard side of the nose.
the "Rabbit Milk" isn't milk from rabbits. its cows milk actually. its just the brand of the milk is called "Big White Rabbit".

My friend worked on the avionics for this plane. Its amazing how many parts are from the US for a Chinese built plane.
We live in a globalised world, nobody should be surprised. Other airlines are no different e.g. Embraer yet don't get the laser-focus on their component supply chains like this new Comac C919.
Because those are cheaper to purchase.
You really shouldn't be thinking that Chinese are not capable to make those avionics.right?
@@jamessmith1652 The only reason it gets bought up is because Western Government want there media to slander China
You've must not looked at the Boeing aircraft... or Airbus. About half of the 787 parts are produced outside of the US.

The C919 looks like a nice plane and I'd be happy to fly on one.

Congratulations China. We shall be glad to do business with you. I like the C919 outlook. Kudos!
Though i can say that the C919 may take awhile to compete in the markets, it certainly looks fantastic
(I am also imagining what it would look like with the GE90s instead of the Leap Engines)
