    9:46 Booster sets down on the water: note the SPEED readout at 9 km/h, and the orientation indicator to the right near-vertical
    9:52 Booster, having tipped over, hits the water: note the SPEED readout is now 101 km/h, and the orientation indicator is close to horizontal
    The explosion will have occurred at this point - right when the feed cuts out (because a blown-up Booster can't transmit data...) The explosion is caused by the top of the Booster hitting water broadside at over 100 km/h - as can be seen from the SPEED readout (the speed is evidently measured by equipment located at the top of the Booster). The Booster is not designed or built to survive such an impact.

    • @curator23
      @curator23 Месяц назад +6

      We also don't see stainless steel debris flying about in the air in the leaked picture, so it's unlikely the booster exploded. My guess is the fireball was trapped methane burning off as the tip-over releases it. There may have been excess methane leaking from the RUD'd engine.

    • @Spherical_Cow
      @Spherical_Cow Месяц назад +11

      @@classic_sci_fi the tilt indicator is perfectly in synch with the video showing the Booster tipping over (just pay attention to the horizon...) So, the telemetry is up-to-date, and there's no reason to doubt it.
      The speed at impact is also plausible: the Booster is 70 m tall, so its tip travelled 110 m (1/4 of a circle with a 70 m radius) on its way down, in a span of just about 5 seconds, accelerating the whole time.

      @@NeedsLessWedge It doesn't matter if you are right or wrong in the arena of ideas. If you cross the derangement line you lose. To effectively argue a case, your aims must be reasonable and your approach disciplined. That is not a characteristic of the environmental movement.
      I remember the environmentalist "protests" against Cassini sending radioactive material to Jupupiter. The crazies climbed he fences and handcuffed themselves to the inside. Rather than engage in a discussion of the truth, they sought news media attention by derangement. The public saw they were insane and ignored anything they said, whether right or wrong.
      As a result there was no review. The public was denied their opportunity to be reassured or to have defects remedied.
      The only aim of the "environmentalists" was to get on the 6 o'clock news and stop the launch. The launch happened and they were exposed as loonies. Lack of discipline and planning spell the doom of any movement.

      Transport closures aren't the same thing as launch closures. For launch operations, or even Booster static fire tests, SpaceX blocks off and evacuates the entire area from the beach to Starbase - not just the road. Also, for launches, a large area of the ocean east of Starbase is blocked to sea traffic - which trends toward turning into a significant nuisance, if it begins to happen on the order of once a week, every week.

How long will it take to build the six towers at these facilities? For now might expect 24 launches per year from Starbase Boca Tx. Two towers twice the launches.
    Assuming the Kennedy new tower is being built early next year... You might add a couple launches at the end of the year. Assumed Starship starlink and manned launches from Kennedy Fla, Starship test and refueling launches from Starbase Tx.
    Although I would expect a Falcon-9 Dragon intercept Starship in orbit missions. Avoiding Starship's manned launch/reentry and refueling critical phases and certifications.
    Space X could do a transorbital moon test flight with maybe 3 refueling flights, unless Space X wants to test out its full 50-100 ton payload capacity.
    Physical Moon landing and launching. takes more, based upon the payload tonnage carried to the moon.
    I would expect both a unmanned test and a manned flights.

    NASA does not want that Starship launching from the Cape. ULA did make submissions against Cape Starship launches but NASA is of the same frame of mind.
    Starship is still a test vehicle, prone to catastrophic failure; a fully fueled Starship explosion at the Cape would devastate pad LC39A infrastructure.
    So Starship must launch Artemis 3 (and 4?) missions from Boca Chica. SpaceX proposed 40+ launches will be bitterly contested over the next months. The Greens want this fight.
    Boca Chica could grind to a halt; and, by default, remove Starship from the Artemis program, leaving the landing to Blue Moon in 2029/30.
    As Bill Nelson and Jim Free keep telling the Media, "We want backup!"

  • @Contrarian-ol2bc
    @Contrarian-ol2bc Месяц назад

    For SpaceX to have hundreds or thousands of launches of starship per year, they are going to have to build several more, or maybe dozens more launch facilities. There are plenty of likely sites along the Texas coast that are not gonna make the tree huggers scream and are a good distance from populated areas. Also with highway access for fuel, supplies and materials.
    Musk may have ditched the oil platforms for other reasons besides dropping the idea, its entirely possible those types of platforms are not suitable. Musk will probably have custom ones built later.

    But you were super right about the starliner situation.
    You threw the theory out there on what would happen if Starliner does not work (which it doesn't) and Falcon 9 would get grounded for whatever (unlikely) reason. Which it is now. I think you were the only one, who was very lound about that. And see who was right. YOU! Respect for that.
    Personally thought, that would be overdramatizing the situation, as Russia also only has onne spacecraft to access the ISS. But that thing is extremely well understood, as Soyuz flys more or less as it is for almost 60 years.

      not this decade... possibly not next decade, either. But they'll have multiple launch pads (several at the Cape, at least one or two at Vandenberg, and the ones at Starbase), so by the 2030s should be able to sustain annual launch cadence in the low hundreds (i.e. higher than the Falcon 9 so far).
