60 years of CNES, serving an ambition (VA)

“To become a leading world power, France needed rockets along with a programme to give them a use.” The adventure for CNES started back in 1961 with this policy goal set out by President Charles de Gaulle. 60 years on, what a journey it has been!
A space adventure beginning here on Earth, with the people ready to rise to the challenges ahead and combine their talents, to commit themselves to the task-sometimes to doubt-and to transmit their values and shape the future. In this video, we cast our eye over the agency’s history, from Diamant 1 lifting off at the Hammaguir base in the Algerian desert in 1965 to the launch of the James Webb Space Telescope in December 2021 from Europe’s spaceport in Kourou, French Guiana.
Between these two landmark events, relive the highlights of CNES’s journey to the infinite and beyond, but always rooted in the French ecosystem. France is and must continue to be a great spacefaring nation. #PrideInCNES #CNESAt60
