On its self-titled debut, the Canadian noise rock band METZ brings some heavy sounds and great riffs, but not a lot of variety or songwriting power.
What did you think of this album? Love it? Hate it? Why? What should I review next, eh?

Sometimes I want an album to have ebbs and flows and peaks and valleys, a thematic structure and an overall arc... And sometimes I just want to be kicked in the balls with guitars. Metz provides the latter.
theneedledrop can't disagree more this time with you... after 2 years plus listening to this album keeps getting better and better. 9/10
METZ ZTEM it's true. To me they're more like movements in a symphony than tracks. Plus, the live show....oooooo.... METZ sounds like METZ. My favorite band of the last decade.
I really think the second album is more solid version of the S/T
Yeah give the second record a try
It's way better
Please review their album Atlas Vending. I think it's great and have gone back to it many times over :-)
Step 1: put on METZ record
Step 2: play at maximum volume
Step 3: chop up a body or knit a gimp mask or bake a cake with broken glass
This album is incredible, the drummer is a solid fuckhorse
if you're not satisfied with the album... watch the kexp performances and you won't be able to not listen to them daily
i'm glad you like it. if they keep SOUNDING this good, i'm def looking forward to their next project.

Metz is better than all the bands they are compared to. They have a relentless groove and sense of melody that transcends the genre
yeah, this is the kinda band i imagine is way more wild and loud in person.
Listened to the whole album at full volume twice and loved every second.
I've seen them live last week and their music only makes total sense on stage. One of the best gigs ever, long live that band!

Coming from a man that shot himself
feeling a review on this, yes.
Dude thanks so much for doing this. It's my favorite album this year I think. These guys are going to be big I think.
yep.
yes to all of these.
Antsthony in your Pantstano, you should check out the other albums by Metz. Their "METZ II" album was definitely just an overall improvement of their first, putting a lot of strange harmonies and tempo breaks that improve their first album's more predictable sound (although, you're still going to get loud yelly noise rock) and their latest, Strange Peace, did something completely different from their past two. That was dropped just last month, if I'm not wrong. I personally love their sound, and I'd feel like if you checked their later albums out, you'd see a fair improvement because you have fair judgement.
Jason Day Sadly, I don’t think Anthony will check them out...
Best live performance I've ever seen after NIN. They really give and put all the energy in every note, is contagious!! AAAnd this album is fucking awesome!!!
review coming soon.
i like their stuff, too. i thought a lotta tracks on this LP were great, i just wasn't in love with it as a whole, really. if you like the LP, i'm glad, tho. keep on digging it. it's heavy, energetic, powerful.
wish you would review their latest "Strange Peace"
they also have new album coming out october 9, "Atlas Vending"
Review it!!! thanks
This is the first review I've seen from Anthony that utterly misses the mark. This is easily the 3rd best record of 2012, and that's only because Godspeed You! Black Emperor and Grimes were both uniquely phenomenal.
yes to this.
YES.
i WILLL
How about reviewing METZ's 2nd album? or Bass Drum of Death!!!
ok ok.
i've been anticipating this record just cuz of the tracks that dropped beforehand were so awesome. i was just let down to hear that it didn't all amaze as an album. :-(
minor 7ths as well, eh? i believe it.
good timing, I'm going to see them on Friday.
thank u.
let's seeeee.
it's like less weird version of the daughters self titled. More punk leaning as well.
yes to the godspeed
soon.
good suggestion.
Anthony, before I watch this review I want to tell you no matter what way I come out of it, I love you.
lulz, why?
reminded me a lot of the men's "leave home" or that lower "walk on heads" ep. pretty cool.
Hey Anthony, and/or anyone else. I'm looking to expand my noise rock and noise orientated repertoire. Where would you suggest a boy to go that is already into The Locust, Melt Banana, Arab on the Radar, Action Beat yadayada ...
i wanna.
Thanks for reviewing my request, dude. (I don't know if anyone else requested it) I appreciate it even though you thought it was mediocre! The best part about talking music is differing opinions and the discussion of it all!! I'm feeling a strong 7 on this one.
GOD?
I really liked "Get off" in this album. I wanna see them live too
Converge's All We Love We Leave Behind review? I'm sorta into them but I'm not sure I wan't to buy it. What do you think about it?
you're literally the only other person (and not just reviewer) other than myself that was annoyed by the overuse of minor thirds on a record! i have not listened to this album yet. if anything, they use too many minor sevenths. this is the dissonant interval you hear most throughout daughters, arab on radar, metz.. but yeah, metz are incredible, saw them live a few months ago. i have a bunch of their singles on here. stoked to see your review!
Do you ever review albums from bands that are not signed? Just curious.
hmmmmmm
Yeah, you might like Daughters and An Albatross, pretty chaotic. Anthony reviewed White Suns's second album earlier in the year, Sinews. Not the same kinda noise rock as the bands you listed but it's hell of an album.
I'm here in 2021, disagreeing. This sound gets bigger and bigger after every listen...
Hey what app can I use on Android that works like or exactly like Podcast on Apple to listen to your podcast? I just switched over love Android but cant get great podcast app :/
Review their new album, Atlas Vending
Any chance you'll review Transcendental Youth?
why dont you review some of the 'Fabriclive' mix series from london?
i dunno, i don't own an android. :-(
Buy an android fantano!
DistrictBruh he should buy a blackberry
sadly, i haven't been digging it. :-(
A Place to Bury Strangers....nice.
Between the buried and me - Future sequence ???
i haven't quite felt like it. :-(
Fans of this album should check out the brilliant Shotmaker if they don't know them yet. Clearly an influence on those Ottawa-born musicians.
Mouse-Ear is the magnum opus, but Troubleman Unlimited Records also released their entire discography on double CD in 2000.
I agree with you completely. There are a few tracks that are rippers like Wasted amd Headache but as a whole it's boring with no variation. Their second record, II, is actually enjoyable all the way through with each song being more frantic and immediate than the last. That record truly saw them at their peak as later albums they went for a more artistic approach to their songs which imo didn't blend well with their style
Can someone tell me the hype behind this macklemore album, i've listened to it a couple times through, I don't hear anything special.
FO LYFE!

Yeah, Lonerism. And after that I would like an opinion on Kaki King's new album Glow.
you're welcome.
Just saw these guys last night at Mercury Lounge. Go do yourself a favor and see them live. Tons of energy!
Please review Between the Buried and Me: The Parallax II
How much do you listen to an album before you review it?
really? i'm pretty sure there's like a zit or two on my chin. is my skin that clear?
"All We Love We Leave Behind" - Converge! Please! :D
Please review the new Coheed & Cambria record
I agree with this review, but I still really like this album. Not very complex, but good overall music.
ok, soon. calm down, son.
goddamn it, get on that converge review!!
You didn't catch a faint "Nirvana" divided by "Jesus Lizard" vibe from this one?
You should review the new Sylosis album Monolith

GOOOOOODDDDDDDDSSSSSSSPPPPPPEEEEEEEEDDDDDD! I'm seeing them in 2 days please review their album
LIGHTNING BOLT!!!
I enjoyed this quite a bit more than you, but I'm a mouth breathing knuckle dragger that's looking for aggression in my noise rock. What's songwriting?
yeah, I admit there's not a huge amount of variety on the album... See them live though, Soooo noisy and energetic, their singer/guitarist is just insane onstage
Why?-Mumps, etc. please :)
I think the album Metz is comparable to Bleach by Nirvana. I mean, this is an album with songs they've written to be played on stage, in the same way as Bleach has got alot of really simple songs that make audiences go crazy but don't really get the point across as studio versions. After Bleach, Nirvana began writing more studio-suitable songs, resulting with Nevermind, one of the best (most sold) rock albums in the history of music. I'm curious wether Metz will follow the same path.
Well okay, but it would be awesome if you did it anyway, whether you liked or not.
Anyway, keep doing what you're doing. BIG FAN

THE HEIST CMON
metz should come on the show!
