I'm liking following your journey, plate to fiberglass, and keep up the honest comments. I laughed at the boat launching itself as this reminds me of myself on some days even after so many years launching boats, we all f**k up now and then so credit to you for not editing this out and to be honest, that's why I follow your channel, honest personal reviews and experiences. I'm in the exact same boat as you (no pun intended) but your 9 months ahead of me. I've had all ali boats, 5 of them biggest 7.3m, since sold and after watching your journey, the wife and I are now going down the fiberglass path. Their construction has come a long way since the days of timber etc. so were looking getting at a secondhand Haines or something equivalent in the 5.8-6.0m.
Hey man, yeah I love plate and glass boats but you definitely have to understand their limitations. My old dog at the moment, rides ridiculously well tbh but alot of work and maint. Can't go wrong with a good haines. Good luck! Let me know how U go
Wow a blast from the past, had one of these great boats back in 1993, was like new ( for it's age ) and yep awesome and comfortable travelling in the chop, however we found it moved around to the point of annoying at anchor. Still loved it though and a day out in it was always good fun. These days we own a 5.8 Surtees and could not be happier as an allrounder it is ,perfect IMO.
Yep we mostly will be doing offshore, trolling etc in this boat. After a few seasons and hopefully some good fish Il probably go smaller and easier again
ive got a 26ft Caribbean runabout with twin 250s, love the boat one of the best riding boats I've been in so soft and bunches through everything, still gets up to 43kn, how quick does yours get to with the 300hp v8
Yeah horses for courses.....the BC is a Swiss army knife, can do everything pretty well. This is an offshore axe. Can punch through roughest weather with ease, or sink. Can do both those very well
@@BaitBallin our mercruser felt like the steering was average docking and took some getting use to, I put a orka fin on and it made a world of difference full control at low speed and it actually turned and the ramp, gave me more confidence at the ramp and could come in slow
Yeah good to know, I think the duo prop here helps it alot. But definitely not what I am used to!!! We had a few sketchy situations at the jetty haha. Ohwell
I still reckon she looks better in person than on RUclips. Great to see you finally get her out. When I heard the rescue job going, I was hoping it wasn't you that was broken down at Durras.
You can't beat the smooth ride of a big heavy glass hull and big torquey stern drive engine, like a water riding Rolls Royce! .... the fuel consumption will be the interesting and hopefully not too shocking part though. She's going to sip more guzzaline than the two hundred Suzuki mate. Very nice boat though Mark and she will be even better once you have modded it to how you want it. Well done and thank you for all your insights and great video discussions.
No worries! Yes totally agree, more than happen to pay for the additional fuel etc to have such a better on water experience. It's slowly coming together, it will probably take me. Year to genuinely totally sort it out. But will be quite usable pretty soon. Towing video coming next...
Nice to see it out in its natural habitat mate interested in fuel usage with the big V8 litres per 100km my one with a 150 two stroke on the back 85-90 lts per hundred km =56Nm 🤣 but I love it as much as it loves the fuel ha ha
Great series mate. Will be interested in your take on a modern boat vs the Caribbean for ease of operation/maintenance etc going forward. I'm lucky enough to get to go out on a Noosa Cat with 2x325 Suzuki V8 outboards on a regular basis. I'd say they're quieter than this boat with a single V8 inboard (though I recognise that I'm comparing live vs youtube).
Hey, yeah it's not as noisy at cruising speed as the video made it sound. Sort of depends what rpm. Yeah let's see how hard to maintain etc and will get first service bill soon enough to compare cost

Hey yeah that would be an awesome rig!
About 76kmh in AVG conditions. 80kph best.
I'll stick to my cork repowered with the bar crusher Suzuki DF200...I LOVE IT!

@@BaitBallin With the price of gas exceeding 6 clams a gallon here in the USA, may have to consider paddling 😉
Well it floats, so we can always just tie it up at dock and drink beer on it
These older boats were just built better hands down. Bert 20' 25's and 28's HlLiner 222 Gyspy Caribbean are among some of my favs.
yep simple things like the actual hull bottoms are thick as! and they provide a soft smooth ride while pushing the water well away from the boat.....
Beast of rig, its one of those boats you always feel safe in
Yeah totally agree, it just has such good manners on the water. Really very confidence inspiring

@@BaitBallin yes the duo props are awesome,
The bigger the better when it comes to boats I say. Engine sounds great sounds thirsty though 😆
Agree with size! Yeh Il do a video on it soon, no where near as bad as you think on fuel. In that video was mostly sitting on 1.2 or 1.3 KM/L
Yea nice 👍
I was in the marina on Saturday and saw you running, looked good in the water mate.
Thanks man! She's a good old relic hahhaha
The hull is timeless all the rest is cosmetic.
Fingers crossed I’ll have my boat out for a run this week.
Nice work!!! Yep agree

Thanks man, yeah looks a bit naked without the rocket launcher! Will get a nice custom one made up. I was happy it wasn't us also hahha!

Gone be more trouble than it’s worth 😢
Perhaps. But nothing is for ever, a few seasons and if it's too much work. Il sell it
So good to see it finally on the water that launch was interesting that V8 note is awesome.
Yeah that launch. Far out!!!! Day before the boat catch worked perfectly, so use error I think 👌😂
allways have the safty catch on till your ovor the warter
Totally agree
Rock solid 👍
Yep ride is exceptional. We were all very impressed tbh
It's certainly no 'solo launch' boat! But once you get it on the water, you certainly appreciate it. It's good to experience something different

Yeah exactly! In that video in crusing speeds between 35-50kmh it was doing exactly 1.2 or 1.3 km per L at all times
Happy days guys. Fish on zzzz 🎣
Hey Mark, exciting times ahead… you had smile ear to ear 😀😀what type of boat does the boat have? Regards nick
Hahaha the boat does need a boat yes
@@BaitBallin I meant boat catch… ?bloody phone self correction can catch me out.
Who’s a happy Chappy 😂
Well happy and all still a bit overwhelming tbh. Heaps of work to go

Chuck up some proper numbers mate, speed, rpm ,fuel consumption. Very hard to gauge weather it’s a good thing or not without numbers.
Yeah it's coming don't worry. It hasn't been serviced so that's next. Then will take it out for longer
