  • This Past Friday I Went Up To My Church To Test Our Fire Alarm System. The System Is Divided Into 3 Individual Parts That Are NOT connected Together. We Have Simplex 4251-20 Pull Stations And Simplex 4050 Motor Horns Going In Continuous Only. The Alarms Do Not Have A Panel. And If One Unit Is Pulled, The Other Does Not Go; Both Stations Have To Be Pulled. The Third Separate One Not Featured In This Video Is Only House Smoke Alarms Connected Together In The Children's Hallway. I Have Plans Designated To Have All Unites Replaced With Newer Ones With A Panel When We Remodel And Extend The Building; Given The Fact That They're Almost 5 Decades Old, Are Not Connected Together Giving A Since Of Unreliability, And Because They Have Almost Become Completely Non-compliant For Fire/Safety Regulations.

I remember when my church had its fire alarms go off, turns out some kids were playing and they accidentally pulled the pull station, and we didn't evacuate and i think the fire department didn't come

Cool Fire Alarms! These things scared me to death when I was in Middle School.

My middle school used to have those same pull stations and horns, except they were gray and flush mount with the grill plate. The horns were the square diaphragm ones, which I think is what these are. Had panel and pull station in the office, panel was a 4200 series that had "simplex fire alarm systems" in a little silver name plate on the top. The building was built in 1975...

what will happen to the old horns?

Because They Are Still In Good Working Order, They Will Most Likely Go To Me When They're Replaced, And I'll Add Them To My Collection And Clean Them Up A Bit And Probably Wire Them Up As A Part Of My Own System. But For Now, I Expect They Will Remain In Service Until At Least 2020.

Why no panel and why are they separated?

I have no idea. It’s just how they were when we took ownership of the building. But that will change when we renovate the building in the coming years.
