Yo they killed it.....I could just sit and chill, and listen to this all day. This is so good for the soul. Thank you D'Angelo and thank you J Dilla for your inspiring music. There's nothing else like it.....period.
One of the things that I'll always love about the Voodoo Tour is the interludes, or Dillatudes I must say! Beautiful stuff by The Soultronics! That Voodoo Tour album definitely needs to come out of the Vault.
This had to be recorded early 2000. most folks are thinking that this is a tribute to Dilla. This is soul in its RAWEST form. Might not never hear stuff like this again!! Still checking ITunes pre-orders for the new D'angelo music though.
You're right, it was recorded live in LA in 2000, almost 15 years ago... "Neo soul" is for me the very last staple of soul and black music. Don't get me wrong, there are a lot of good young artists out there making solid work, but none have revolutionized the genre like D'Angelo, J.Dilla, Badu and the others did when they first came out. It was all about experimenting, creating new sounds while preserving the essence of the culture and keeping the old school alive.
You could argue the new experimental artists coming out now and how folks like Kanye West have brought in autotune to change the way people use their voices is significant. But I agree that it's not really an extensive of traditional black music of soul & funk. Only people still making stuff like that now are just doing an okay job imitating previous artists but not really changing much or doing anything revolutionary. But there's still other new music being made which is enjoyable i guess
Paul so true - I was lucky to catch him at Brixton Academy 2011 or 12 I think. Amazing concert 💜. I’ve been replaying Voodoo a lot recently - so ahead of his time 🙌🏾👌🏾
Speaking of the soultronics (or soulquarians) I think Anthony Hamilton would be wise to work with a crew like them for his album production. I feel some of the production he uses often leaves a lot to be desired and working with a collective for an entire album would yield a classic.
My All Time Favorite Slum Village Song (CLASSIC) .. use to play it a lot ... D'angelo & The Soultronics (Did a nice Neo Soul Tribute to J Dilla & the song on "Fall in love (J DILLA)" ... Also Check out: Slum Village - "Tainted" Feat. Dwele ..... The Roots - "The Hypnotic" Feat. D'Angelo ... The Roots - "Silent Treatment" ... The Roots - "Push Up Ya Lighter" ... The Roots - "Proceed II" ....
what no mention of the where this cut came from!?! So let me be the first to send a shoot out to SlumVillage and the legend, the late -great J Dilla. There was more soul in hip hop with you here brother from me you made listening to beats, just beats epic.
I know you love me Baby I know you love me.. I felt that way at 1st Before you left me... What helped me through it all Too much cant be recalled.. Che
I think you are correct, Marquis. You know, Angie toured with D in the earlier days (rumor is they even dated) and wrote/co-wrote almost all of the "Brown Sugar" album. So much talent on that stage!
PINO PALLADINO. Nuff said.
soulcheckw2 funky bernardino
soulcheckw2 the unsung hero of many soulful songs
I'm adding major props for the guitarist! He was the star on this short cut!

Anthony sounds so good in the background.
Can’t like this enough.
Sam Champ, you mastered this beautifully. That kick is so smooth.
Jimmy Rustles YES! ME EITHER! In my chest!
Turns out my buddy is actually friends with Sam Champ, which was a complete surprise haha. But yes, super clean, round bodied low end.
Wow... Anthony Hamilton was a background singer still. This had to be in the early 2000's. Prime D'Angelo.
Is that D'angelo and Anthony Hamilton harmonizing?!?!??!
I'm glad someone else heard Anthony Hamilton in there
Anthony use to sing background for D before he became what he is today
Anthony was/is apart of the soultronics
I'm almost sure that's Anthony and Shelby J harmonizing.
People slept that, that is Anthony Hamilton
Speaking of the soultronics (or soulquarians) I think Anthony Hamilton would be wise to work with a crew like them for his album production. I feel some of the production he uses often leaves a lot to be desired and working with a collective for an entire album would yield a classic.
He sounds excellent with them in this performance
This is from Voodoo Tour - Los Angeles 2000. Chris Dave and Sharkey's got nothing to do with this line-up, it's Questo and Spanky killin' it.
smh if anyone mistook this drumming for anyone but questlove lol
My favorite version of this classic.
It is really very touching, smooth and lovely. He must have been a special soul !
