I like your style my dude. You don't censor yourself and almost sound like your having a conversation with the viewer instead of trying to talk down to the viewer like a lot of other youtubers that do these types of analysis. Definitely subbed and can't wait to check out more of your shit.
Appreciate that my man and yeah, I know what you mean concerning different analysts. Most of them have great scripts, I just wish their delivery was more down to earth, but it's cool because that's where I come in.
Agree, its like a more "chill/informal" style of the "video essay". I really digg it, easier for me to follow along. Plus the background music is pretty sick/relaxing too.
I remember when Jett talked to that fungshwei guy's daughter, telling her, "once you're in the syndicate, they got you forever." Spike's past was always gonna haunt him and come back for him.
"he took his bitch" Died laughing ,your exactly right lol. It is so refreshing seeing someone describe the story without attempting to sound high and mighty. I enjoyed this layman's explanation that has every bit of insight as the pretentious reviews.
Spike is something that a lof of anime protagonist forget they are: human. You could meet him in the streets someday, but you wouldn't notice, he'd be like any other person you ever met, just a little but cooler
I loved Bebop's way of telling a story. We get to know each character a piece at a time, in day to day (well, their day to day?) situations, no flashbacks or manuals to understand them, no biases. It's like these things are really happening and you just watch them as they progress. I mean, there are no flashbacks in real life right? And people dont go explaining to each other what both already know just so some bystander can understand whats happening. It felt more real and more fun to me like this. Interpret the story however you like, we're not telling you who is who or what happened before...more than enough. To me, Spike just was a guy who didnt have a reason to live until he met Julia. He had nothing to lose before that and also after Julia vanishes. Just a guy surviving, not living. That made him unpredictable and fearless, because life to him was just "a bad dream" so waking up wasnt really something he was scared of. Definitely my favorite anime of all times, due to the story, the characters and the amazing, versatile and HUGE soundtrack.
Right and the more series I watch that orchestrates the narrative in this manner, makes me realize just how powerful it truly is. Spot on. Spike wasn't living, but merely existing, which is an overarching theme that ties the entire group together. When Radical Ed and Ein left towards the end, I just sat there in awe. "But...they're not finished growing yet. Oh no, the feels..." T_T It's fascinating really, they searched for resolve, but ultimately came out with even less than they had before. It's actually backwards to methodical storytelling, completely turns it on it's head. A pleasant gem to place in your favorites indeed, and that soundtrack was nothing short of sex on wax.
Nice description, I agree with both of you! I also learned a saying, something about: "enter a scene as close to the climax point at possible, then cut shortly after the climax occurs". In a way, if you look at each episode/session that way, they were quick and simple, straight to the point. Giving us only snippets of their lives/history. When Spike went to fight Vicious to see "if I'm alive", I think that was him clinging onto his last piece of motivation to move on in his life. He lost Julia, what more does he have to live for? His last piece of motivation, in my opinion, was simply to kill Vicious to finally set himself free (from being hunted by the syndicate/Vicious)... but then what happens afterwards? That's when we have to "carry that weight". We now carry the story of Spike and the rest of the Bebop crew, as they have been carrying the weight of each story told in each episode/session (beginning with session one, with the tragic story of the couple with illegal drugs). And now what do we do as an audience? Time to find our purpose, our motivation to live, to see if we are "alive". Anyway, in my opinion of course, sorry for the short essay :P And yes, some of the things I mentioned above are some of the same things you both mentioned, Tsiah IV and Lucifri.
He's undeniably charismatic, but he's not a success. He rejects his new life and his new community because he's unable to move on from past trauma, ultimately committing suicide by going to a place where he knew he'd die.
spike is so damn cool. i remember growing up i always tried to act like him lol. i’d say now that i’m grown i still have the same mindset and it shaped me into who i am today.
I started watching beebop because I had a ton of similarities to spike and was curious about him. Same color, same hair, similar face, did martial arts, but I’m much shorter than he is and have a bulkier physique where as his is leaner and has less mass probably because Bruce lee did the same because he thought it would make his punches and kicks faster.
hmmm...I liked your vid and subbing but it's worth mentioning that it is heavily implied that the syndicate would've killed Jet and Faye if Spike kept hiding out. So my point is he didn't go face Vicious only for his sake but also for the sake of his friends.
Thanks for the sub! I would have to agree with you. They always tend to go for the people you care about the most and seeing how they both betrayed Vicious, I could see this being a plausible way of conveying the emotions he felt during that time.
Murderous Johnny I have to agree. especially considering how, along with any of us, the past was going to catch up to him. I always think the best first impression of him and that he did care, especially more than he lets on, is Episode 2. When he's chasing Hakim and Ein gets tossed out of the vehicle, Spike has to make the choice of saving the dog or getting the bounty. The irony is that later on Spike says he hates pets, women, and children. We, as the audience, know he doesn't hate them. It's just a facade. Spike's had many things taken from him: friends, relationships, anything close has been destroyed because of the syndicate. It's impacted his life and he needs to face it. I'm quite sure he's aware that anything he did in the past will catch up to him and impact the Bebop crew. He knew that by staying there, he was inviting more trouble. By finding Julia that also meant trouble, too. Great video by the way. I really love this stuff!
Brittany Huss Agreed. He was sort of not trying to let strong bonds grow between him and the other characters because he knew Vicious was still out there and his past would catch up to him at some point and he wouldn't want collateral damage to anyone he cared about. Besides, he was just surviving, not really living, kinda wanted to die even, so the less people depending on him and growing attached to him, the better, in his opinion. Episode 5 shows this side of him very clearly in my opinion. There's the whole chat with Vicious, the "flashback", but also the way he deals with the situation and with Faye. Faye asks if hes going to rescue her and he kinda tries to show he doesnt really care. And also when Faye is at gun point and he pulls the trigger on the guy. He does save her, but its also a sort of statement like "hey, Im kinda crazy and this could have gone wrong see? Dont count on me to be your hero again" And later on she treats him just like Julia did, sing the same song Julia sang to him, and he knows where this is going if he doesnt stop it right there, so he does it. These small details are beautiful in this story.
Also, just like to reiterate about the facade of Spike "hating pets, women, and children"... that's kinda like Spike's desire for a family. The picturesque family: wife, children, pet, and a father (Spike). In my opinion, at the end of the series, for some reasons I felt that the Bebop crew has become a sort of family -- a loosely based family that doesn't show their care/compassion on the surface level... but instead through more through actions. It's not the picture perfect family, but it's something to return to. Like in the anime "Planetes", SPOILERS SPOILERS: - - - - One of the main messages is: "...every ship needs a port that is always there waiting and that welcomes them when they finally return home, a warm, safe place ... do not forget."
He did go for their sake too. But it's interesting that he never thinks about them again after he leaves the Bebop, but thinks about Julia the whole entire time right up until the end. Just goes to show that while your friends and roommates are important, there's nothing like the love of your. As George R. R. Martin would say, "When the sun has set, no candle can replace it."
On a rainy night, spring of 2003, in the depths of a heroin addiction, I found Cowboy Bebop. Thank God I was able to get help and watch the rest of the show. It has been a source of comfort and inspiration over the years. I wish I could thank Watanabe for his gift, along with Samurai Champloo. 🖖🏼
One thing I really respect about Bruce lee is his humility. He understood his limits. He admitted he probably couldnt beat Muhammad Ali. I think that's something that comes through with spike in a big way. He knows hes a good fighter and can worm his way out of situations, but he also knows what his weaknesses are. He knows about his apathy and uses it to his advantage, going on to be a bounty hunter where it serves him very well. Another interesting connection
I began watching this show simply just because... little did I know that I was about to discover a timeless piece of art. I love Cowboy Bebop. It bums me out knowing there’s anime of this quality out there, but very few that can match the great story.
I just started watching this series a couple of days ago and can't get enough of these characters, especially Spike. Utterly fascinating. And I'm feeling your analysis. Props to you, bruh!
Spike probably did no really die like many people think. Proof in this is the fact that there was only one shooting star at the end of the series. Let me explain. Laughing Bull says throughout the series that when a warrior dies his star does as well. Spike and Vicious were both warriors so they should both have had a star. This means we should have seen two shooting stars instead of just one. But the fact is there was only one. This means only one of the two died. And we all know that Vicious most likely died. So Spike is most likely still alive and kicking to fight another day.
I believe it had to do more with Spike and Vicious being pretty much the same person. The only difference is spike broke away from his past with the Syndicate and Vicious chose to stay. Julia was what caused Spike to change and very likely their relationship is what caused vicious to change into the monster he became later on since he likely lost his reason to live when spike and Julia's affair was found out.
Ooh that's good to know, i think i'm with the creator on this, Spike's still kicking but it's kind of a rebirth thing coz he 'died' a second time. Personally I think it makes sense for the syndicate guys to patch him up as best they could in the aftermath of the final scene, because the next leader of the gang is whoever killed the last leader and seeing as he killed vicious, that's now Spike. I can imagine the fun of seeing Spike trying to get out of forcibly becoming the leader of the syndicate, maybe he'd try to fake his death again? Or he'd contact the guys and both faye and jet would yell 'IDIOT' at the same time before storming out of the bebop to go find him together.
Love spike and love this analysis. I actually think he's good at heart is a part of the story. And thus his journey was partially about how he ws signoring that part of himself until he met Julia and then even when he temporarily loses her. He doesn't go back he moves to a new way. And the bounties he hunted always seemed to have legitimate reasons for being bounties. Sort of a mismatched good guy. Thus I love the Ying and yang comparison. Watanabe created such a real character that feels like a hero even though he in no way is and does kot wnat to be. Because there is this realism to him, and this inner good. And basic drive to be with the one he loves. Such a tale as old as time. And the experience of lacking motivation outside of that, makes sense. I think many people can relate that life feels sort of pointless until you find that one big thing that sparks it. For him it was Julia, when she dies, he has already died too.
Haha thanks man. I know for a fact that there's some pretty good Bebop videos out there so I'm really honored. I'll try to do some more as soon as I can.
bro need more like these. The reactions and down to earth analysis is pretty awesome kinda like somecallmejohnny also I think a character like vash the stampede would be interesting to do
I remember this was the one of the first videos after I finished Bebop. And now it's almost 5 in the morning and I find your channel again while searching some Tsukihime and Fate videos. And subbed, thank you.
Great work on the giving a foundation on the character of Spike Spiegal. Gave me the confidence to harness a ki that flows like water, unconventionally performing the martial art when needed to never lose a fight or beat to the music. All noise is music with a rhythm, like music is to water, flow is to expressionism, music and culture jamming.
Cool video man. I've always found Spike really interesting, Def my favorite anime character. I wish they had delved deeper into Vicious as a character he was such a badass. Love this though Spike is the man.
man dude... This and Yusuke's analysis was ON fucking point. I felt like you said the EXACT things I think of about these characters. Respect from Houston my man
You've really improved on your analysis videos. This isn't bad or anything like that, but coming here from Kirei Kotomine is like "Whoa, this dude has improved a lot."
okay I gotta say this, I've been watching a LOT of philosophical videos about my favorite anime this and that, but it's always been basement dweller white guys like me. NOW you, yes you and your voice, your pattern of speech is a breath of fresh air to me. Keep them coming brother.
I love your description of Spike, never really thought of it like that but I'm realizing a lot of my favorite characters fall into that category of "You don't want to rely on him, but sometimes you have to".
I'm surprised this video doesn't have very many views. While 6000 is quite a bit I thought this video was posted today or yesterday, which would explain the low view count. Either way great video I really liked it.
Yeah man 4,000 of those views came within the last month so I assume it's starting to circulate more. Thanks for the feedback, it really helps my approach toward upcoming projects, glad you enjoyed it.
I came back to this video after a couple years and after re-watching bebop during quarantine I think a major plotpoint that happened before behind the scenes was when spike saw how “vicious” vicious was. I think it’s a very impactful part of spikes leaving of the syndicate. One time we see spike and vicious fight spike says something along the lines of “I’m not like you!”. I think when spike saw how evil viscous became during their time in the syndicate it made spike have doubts. I think when he got closer to Julia and saw that viscous was an abusive boyfriend, spike began to doubt his former friend and organization even more. Spike may be a criminal, but he isn’t the same kind of person as vicious. I assume viscous changed drastically as he continued his career in the syndicate. At one point we see that scene with spike and viscous back-to-back smiling with their guns, we then see vicious later and if it wasn’t his body we would probably doubt those 2 vicious were even the same guy. Spike sees the road he is going down and begins to see that although he may be a anti-hero gang member who doesnt always obey the rules, he isn’t a vicious killer or monster. It’s just not who he is. Spike is a emotional, compassionate guy inside. He does care about things like Julia and wouldn’t hurt people just for the hell of it. I think when spike saw how vicious his whole organization became, he decides to leave and help Julia escape as well. He sees Julia is in pain as well seeing vicious change into the monster we see in the series. Spike attempts to break her out. As we know, cowboy bebops plot then begins to plays out. I also think the movie supports my theory, Vincent is like spike if he became like vicious. Spike fears Vincent because it’s everything spike ran away from. It’s the version of him that he dreaded becoming.
I love how your voice is so relax. It goes with the video lol. This is my 7 or 8 time watching this over time .But i keep watching because ur i love how you go over it.
Almost correct. You have to take into consideration that Spike is a young man, only 27. Can't run from his past. No motivation in the present. The only desire for the future(Julia) dies when he finally finds her. This is quite a pickle. Life is a pickle ! But you got Spike's core wrong. He is a highly intelligent, compassionate and highly intuitive/perceptive. There is no apathy !
You got a new subscriber outta me brother 💪🏾 I never could get into Bebop growin up for some reason but this analysis def makes me wanna check it out with an open mind
Jeet Kune Do is about using what styles you do know and optimizing and personalizing them together to use the least amount of required movements to express oneself. It's about saving energy in a way.
Spike also para phrases Bruce Lee’s famous quote” be water my friend” analogy. Spike says: “You're tense, I'm calm. You apply excessive force; I control that force through fluid motion. That means relaxing the whole body so it can react instantly without resistance-no, without thought. Do you see now? It means becoming like clear water.”
Great analysis of Spike. I don’t really think he wandered at the end, it’s just really sometimes you can’t go back...and I think that is what he realized.
Haha thanks and to answer your question the Rock and Revy should be coming later this month, if not then early next. I decided to do a project on another character first.
The crew shoulda saved him. But can't beat that ending. One thing modern anime does wrong; is not knowing when to end.
He didn’t die he fell asleep
@@rikosaikawa9024 Preeeach
Or how to end. Most anime just end with no real ending.
Javier R. Castillo he saved them, though. Going out and dealing with his problem by himself kept his past from coming back to haunt him and the bebop crew.
Dragon ball series
Spike was one of the best characters I've ever seen in an anime. His skills, his personality, how he went through life. They just made made look cool.
He reminds me of vash from trigun i wonder whos tougher
@@claushawnpennerman9384 vash isnt a normal human thats why hes tougher but ofc spike is cooler
when making art of spike the artists were given no directions but "make him look cool" that's literaly the entire baisis of his charecter
Yeah right
True My brotha
I like your style my dude. You don't censor yourself and almost sound like your having a conversation with the viewer instead of trying to talk down to the viewer like a lot of other youtubers that do these types of analysis. Definitely subbed and can't wait to check out more of your shit.

It's the legend himself! You're killing the game bruh, I'm just taking notes and thanks.
Really interesting comparison of Bruce Lee v Chuck Norris in relation to Spike v Vicious; I had never thought about that before.
An intellectual analysis. I liked the depth you portrayed.
Thanks brother!
possibly one of the best narrations I've seen especially ones with anime characters let alone on one of my favorite animes

Perhaps it was a binary star.

This video analysis was lit from beginning to end. The analysis was on point and your deliver added some panache to the video. I loved it.
Spike is one of the best characters I’ve seen
This was so on-point 👌👌
Ayeeee 😎
Yeah it's on point on his character, especially with the the fight with vicious.
great work. love your presentation style and nice mix of humor.
Thanks fam and I agree, nothing like a good laugh.
I’ve watched this so many times my dude. You did an amazing job portraying what cowboy bebop is all about. Thank you
Bro you funny asf this is one of the best bebop analysis ive watched you should do more man.
Haha thanks man. I know for a fact that there's some pretty good Bebop videos out there so I'm really honored. I'll try to do some more as soon as I can.
You deserve it man and ill be waiting for that next vid!
Damn man, this was some good shit to watch. And you got a nice voice to listen to, especially with that lo-fi hip-hop in the background. Subbing.
bro need more like these. The reactions and down to earth analysis is pretty awesome kinda like somecallmejohnny
also I think a character like vash the stampede would be interesting to do
Thanks bro and yeah man I love Trigun so I'll eventually do Vash for sure.
@@TsiahIV my man you gotta hit us up with that
Genuinely fascinating analysis. Thanks!
Amazed I hadn't found this years ago.
All the vids I'm finding on your channel are about characters that I absolutely love.
Thanks
I like this, music fits in
Thanks!
@@TsiahIV whats the name of the music?

It's a great song as well.
Just finished the series. Felt like I lost a friend when Spike died.
Dude I dug the shit out of your style of delivering an in depth look at one of my favorite all time characters.
Respect from Houston my man
Yo dude these videos are sick af, had to subscribe, especially with the dope ass beats too, this one and your analysis on Yusuke Urameshi are great
Appreciate that fam, really wanted to make this series an entertaining experience. Happy to see you guys are enjoying it.
Good shit man. I dig it. You just said what my sober mind was thinking throughout the series.
Damn dude like your style is a kick ass video for someone trying to introduce someone to Spike
This was amazing. This made my day. Thank you.
well thought out, detailed, and entertaining. Right on bro
Bro I dig your analytic style! Couldn't help but to subscribe.
You've really improved on your analysis videos. This isn't bad or anything like that, but coming here from Kirei Kotomine is like
"Whoa, this dude has improved a lot."
You’re a natural young Morgan Freeman, I dig the analysis entirely and how you broke down both the movie and show. Keep on bruh.
okay I gotta say this, I've been watching a LOT of philosophical videos about my favorite anime this and that, but it's always been basement dweller white guys like me. NOW you, yes you and your voice, your pattern of speech is a breath of fresh air to me. Keep them coming brother.
All analyses should be like this. Thanks for the great video 🙏🏼
I’m glad you did a video on my favorite anime and great video
Thanks for checking it out.
One of my favorite characters from one of my favorite animes. I like the perception you put on Spike and how in the end he was human.
Bro you're exactly what i needed. 10/10 analysis
This was amazing, such a damn good review. Thank you for this video man.
Thanks fam, glad you think so
This is the best analysis of Spike I have ever seen. You nailed it.
I love your description of Spike, never really thought of it like that but I'm realizing a lot of my favorite characters fall into that category of "You don't want to rely on him, but sometimes you have to".
"One thing about motivation, it's impossible to fake" holy shit these words ring true. Amazing video!
Like so many others have said, you got a great voice. Love the way it's delivered. Keep it up!
Thank you!
This is well done, my man.
bruh your hiatus was longer than Hunter x Hunter
Lmaoooo bruh chill.
Berserk* fucking dumbass
I dug this a whole lot. Lookin' forward to checkin' out more of your stuff.
Appreciate that my man, thanks for sliding through.
Spike is my fave anime character of all time, and this video perfectly explains his story and character
I really got to subscribe not just for the great analysis, but for the god damn music. I search high and low for soothing music like the ones you used
Nothing like that smooth Jazz.
Spot on and insightful analysis of one of THE great characters, not only of anime, but in any of the narrative arts. Thanks! Subbed.
I love how your voice is so relax. It goes with the video lol. This is my 7 or 8 time watching this over time .But i keep watching because ur i love how you go over it.
That voice that tone that rhythm and that lofi
It makes a good song
Thank you for this video, this came at the RIGHT time in my life. Thank you sir!
Great analysis. Spike is my all time favorite character.
Really love ur insight into the logic of his character
Nice video man, hope to see more of this series
This was dope af! Awesome video kept me on the edge of my seat
Ayeee, thanks for watching.
BRO!!! I need more of these lol. I know you haven’t done a vid like this in a while but it would be great if you did another one.
Im actually doing one right now
You should have way more subscribers. Either way, this is ridiculously good. Thanks.
favorite anime character ever, great vid!
Just subbed, great video
Can't wait to see more!
Amazing analysis, btw love your voice

You're my favourite reviewer on RUclips.
You got a new subscriber outta me brother 💪🏾 I never could get into Bebop growin up for some reason but this analysis def makes me wanna check it out with an open mind
Thanks fam and I think you'll really enjoy it. It got even better for me the second time around when I was older.
Jeet Kune Do is about using what styles you do know and optimizing and personalizing them together to use the least amount of required movements to express oneself.
It's about saving energy in a way.
Great analysis, brother. Heard some thinking I haven't come across before.
Amazing video man. Thanks for making it
Spike also para phrases Bruce Lee’s famous quote” be water my friend” analogy. Spike says:
“You're tense, I'm calm. You apply excessive force; I control that force through fluid motion. That means relaxing the whole body so it can react instantly without resistance-no, without thought. Do you see now? It means becoming like clear water.”
I rewatched cowboy bebop after 4 years and im still speechless, spike is a fucking god tier mc
This is the freshest video essayist on RUclips
First video I've seen of yours, made it half way through and I had to like and subscribe. Awesome analysis for an awesome show.
Much appreciated my boy.
Great review. This is my fav anime and I was iffy on clicking but you nailed it.
Really good video dude!
Great analysis of Spike. I don’t really think he wandered at the end, it’s just really sometimes you can’t go back...and I think that is what he realized.
Spike is a awesome character!
That was really well done. Really liked it.
bruhh you need more subscribers so underrated
Haha thanks and to answer your question the Rock and Revy should be coming later this month, if not then early next. I decided to do a project on another character first.
