This video makes me nostalgic for my sniper build that I played for like the first 200 lvls on my main. The hunting rifle was my go to wpn early game. And nice to see you making vids as usual again!
Early levelling with the hunting rifle was amazing... first fully standard... later one with a scope and eventually a fully modded and legendary rifle... it was really amazing to level with and very ammo efficient
When starting as a new player it is hard to find recources at first and I was always running out of bullets using any other weapon. This weapon helped me so many times even when I didn't had any access to legendary weapons back in the old days and I used it leveling up all my characters. I always craft lvl 5 fully modded hunting rifles for friends that want to level their first character and they mostly use it until they are almost lvl 30.
A B25 Hunting Rifle with Hasty .38 receiver is pretty much the best weapon in the game when it comes to ammo saving when farming normal enemies, it still does like 600 to 1500 DMG with the usual Rifleman build anyway. And you can turn it into even more of a beast with a Hasty .50 receiver although you will have to craft ammo that way. And yes I prefer Hasty since with 25FFR it's almost as fast as a Lever Action rifle and I would suggest actual Scopes over Reflex Sights for this one since you will never run out of AP even when using VATS so might as well have the Zoomed Scoped anyway.
I love survival mode because it's not about number crunching . I want to have a nice sanctuary with my friends have some one take turns watching so in case a player tries to kill us bam ...
Never tried a sniper build using this rifle, might consider it now. I'm using the time between now and the march update to test some different builds. Currently got a two handed melee build with solar armour, team perks and a vampires baseball bat. I'm pretty much immortal 😂. Thanks for the video by the way, great as usual 👍
Really wish you could make packages. Having a parcel with min level BOS rifle, combat armour, ammo and chems ready to drop for any level 1s you see about to leave Vault 76 would be amazing. Especially if you were in uniform and doing the salute emote :D
I just got to lvl 85 last night and got a modded out sniper rifle from a drop. I need to go get the 50 cal. receiver for it in a few minutes. Something made me keep it, then I found this video today. Thanks for all the help you provide.
Started another character and had no weapons at level 50 (Sold my Fixer) then rolled an Instigating Explosive 25% Vats hunting rifle, awesome stuff. Merry Christmas Turtle
What about a Instigating 50 vat Crit Last shot? You get double damage on every enemy 50% more on top after every 3 shots and a chance at double damage on the 5th. My question is does last shot stack with instigating on new enemies? Or does it only double base damage? Might be a test idea. This set of rolls with a hasty receiver might be good for larger enemies too.
My xbox character still using a good hunting rifle, sniper type build but after this guide I may need to mess about with the perks a bit. Underestimated weapon I think I usually set up low levels with one of these, some ammo and usually a marine wetsuit.
When did they pull bos recon rifles from the legendary loot pool? I checked when leg crafting came out and you could then! I checked and you can't now and that makes no sense with the enclave plasma being a thing, what gives beth?

Long charge time balances it imo, my gauss rifle is about the same as a hunting rifle for a swarm of ghouls. A standard body shot while detected 2 shots most enemies at full charge.
I’m a noob player but I rolled a HR with +%50 vats hit chance and damage increases when health increases. As a high health vats build it’s really become my workhorse, and I always all away from fights with more ammo than I started with. %95 headshots from long distance is really satisfying!

Why does a target's head fill my medium scope and be considered out of range? Bethesda should do something about this!
Try taking Calmex instead of psychobuff. The damage is a bit more useful, especially with high front loaded damage like Instigating. Swapped my build to Nocturnal & during the day, damage is good, but at night with Calmex and the sneak perks it does amazing. Even at queens I'm doing better. My Hunting Rifle only needs 10 total head shots to get loot and still keep up.
I would like to say, if you have never heard the hunting rifle without a silencer AND the 50 cal mod, it might be the MOST satisfying sound in the entire game. It's the meatiest loudest deepest boom. It makes me sad that you really do need a silencer to make it viable in day to day gameplay.
I've a bloodied explosive on my sniper character and it's just so much fun to use both in and out of vats. Great for low mid enemies. I pull out my bloodied+50% gauss rifle, it's insanely good, even against SB and SBQ. If I shoot fusion cores of sentri bots, I think I do around 25K damage lol the charge thing gets annoying time to time especially on laggy servers
Reminds me when I first started playing I found my first non legendary hunting rifle for 300 caps and used it till it couldn't carry me.. and now 2 years later I'm using a B50crit25 rifle to do queen and Earle
Agree on the range issue. All rifles should have more range built in. Could be tha rifleman perk increases damage and range or that range shifts with reciever. That would be an really interesting build if you where able to snipe things at great distance. Also would love to have a sniper daly ops mode.
I landed a 2 shot explosive HR. I don't like it as much as I do my 2 shot explosive lever action but it's fun and the bolt action graphics add a nice change to the usual boring Auto rifle. Bethesda sure did us a solid having regular enemies drop the Prime ammo now. I use my Prime Lever escorting the responder bot in Morgan town and just rake it in. No more running around in Daily Ops!!!! I wasn't getting that much Prime ammo from a DO to make it worth my while anyway.
Man, the hunting rifle is a fallout 76 kit staple. Even on my stealth commando build I keep a 50 cal with the long recon scope and it comes in handy all the time

Be prepared to spend ALOT of cores/ modules for that role but is totally worth it. I would argue it is the best sniper rifle available in the game for one/ first shot damage.
I think it would be cool if you went on pts service and I guess write a ticket and let Bethesda know these things. Maybe that's how they want us to reach them or an easier way . Like the quick aim was towards the lower leg . Maybe they can make a sniper the bullet does that slow drop .
Turtle: The upcoming Energy Weapon fixes.. What's your supposition on how it'll effect the Enclave Plasma Flamer. And should one make the E.P.F now, or after the update.. same with the coming 4 star rolls, are we better waiting until after these updates to put the E.P.F together & roll it's effects.? Cheers.

Already tested. It does work with scopes. The wiki for the game is wrong about and has been for quite some time. I test this effect weekly. If your gun isn't doing 100 damage at least. You won't notice the increase as much.
Wish sniper weapons had longer range. It probably was for PVP reasons, but nobody does PVP. Wish normal, non-gauss, shotguns weren't useless because of range, damage drop-off, and how the damage after armor penetration formula work.
I have a BE15c version of this weapon and it was able to kill a scorchbeast in around 4 shots i think, if you want to test the weapon out for yourself turtle just reply to the comment. Around 440 damage on paper.
Been thinking about getting a quad/vats, was wondering if it would be worth the farm 🤔 Edit: Also as for a third perk, I think reload speed is always nice for that slight increase in damage per second/utility.

From my viewing of it. Radiums aren't getting anything new at all. Since they deal ballistic damage nothing is changing. Only the gun class "energy" makes it that.
I have the best god rolls of hunting rifles in a storage character and i never use them. The dps is too low for grinding let alone boss fights. And because of the damage cap its no good for pvp either.
dude.. I just started playing this game I'm level 29. I did the wayward quest way back in the beginning and already got the hunting rifle from the slot machines with the coin. Should I make a new account? Took me like 24 hours to get to this level.
Great content new subscriber! I got both the sniper & hunting rifle inside vault 51 off a vault dweller laying on the floor by a couch above the kitchen area up the stairs on the left. First I obtained the sniper rifle, I was ecstatic 😆 going thru snipping scorched then all the sudden had one sneak up on me & take me out because I wasn't paying attention to my health level lol. So I respawned go back in & something told me to just recheck the dead & to my surprise the rifle was there again but this time it said hunting rifle i was like no way what are the odds 🤭 so i do a comparison & really they are the same in my opinion I love both & they are my go to weapons so when one is out of ammo I have back up 😉 A tip for lower level players like me ( level 12) it is possible to kill the scorched boss with these rifles if you sneak in take out the ghouls with him then stay around the door frame that takes you into the room where he's at hop in shot, back out let him blast away stay to the wall though so his lasers don't get you & repeat till you get him low enough to run up on him & slash him with the machete or other big blade. Yes it will take a while you will need plenty of ammo & stimpacks so stock up before trying! I'm sure you could us other weapons by this method you never know till you try & experiment. I'm pretty good at being stealthy taking the enemies out especially with a bow & arrow/ crossbows that's my goal to find the one in fallout lol In real life I live in Appalachia regions of VA actually 2 hours from the new river gorge bridge. I'm a hunter & live off grid partially & live off the land. I love my crossbow love the wait & anticipation of stalking my dinner 🤣 I'm also pretty good with guns that have scopes I like to pretend they are sniper weapons 🤫 I think I would make a good sniper cause I can be one sneak bitch when needed 😶😅
I’m trying something new 😁 Power Armor but No Weapons. The character is level 15 so it’s Raiders. I’m beginning to think that Raiders with the Welded rebar chest mod is secretly OP. I literally clearly the Whitesprings golf club ⛳️ by standing still while rebound damage killed all the ghouls. 😆
Ok i must be missing something, im using a stealth sniper build, have all the perks, and i get that i dont have instigating but wtf- im not hittin for that much at all, im not using prime but i have a TSE hunting rifle and im like, 5-6 shotting super mutants, not 1 shot, and hitting for 110 ish, def not 700
I also get nostalgic I gave my bloodied rifle away after an update it wasn't the same as before where you had a one shot even at super mutants with high level ... those we're times 😂😂 for a sniper the range was weak but the rest okay 👍

This plan at one point was one of the rarest, everyone always assumed they could make it but the plan was so rare almost no one could.

Something interesting to consider with the Hunting Rifle is the receiver determines Fire rate.
Yes and no. I wouldn't bother with the higher fire rate receivers because they don't actually do much. Calibrated receiver is where it's at.

didnt do much testing on single shot rifles but i belive even non legendary gauss rilfe gonna do better than any huntig rifle sadly

In Fallout 4 I used a Combat Rifle with
.308 receiver, doesn't exist in F76 so the Hunting Rifle is my main sniper now

I found one with a .50 cal reciever just today. Even with a Suppressor on, it still sounds slightly different to the normal Reciever with Suppresor.
Really, really wish they had a non bolt action version like the Gobi campaign or battle rifle. Just how it is.

I'd suggest that faster reload would be the best 3rd star.
Does the Ground Pounder perk card and the Speed Demon mutation speeds up the bolt action animation?

2 shot explosive fr is really nice. I let someone borrow one but they never gave it back. lol, they must have really liked it.
I have a 2se , aae and ie hunting rifles , it's a good weapon when your conserving ammo. It's not fast but gets the job done.
You can use gun bashing, throwing weapons or even grenades' to cancel the bolt action animation.
I remember about a year ago I got an AA limb dmg uniting rifle. Named it the jfk experience XD

Ahhh I remember a time ago I ran rifle builds. Their still OP kind of with the right build and perks . But it will slow the gameplay down a lot.

No, you will get plenty more legendarys, and can even craft your own.
Correct. The token is nice. But having 5 toons already finished w the quest. I would simply get some modules and craft a few
I don't remember seeing an actual location where I can loot this gun. In a crate or on an NPC. Like if you can only get it from a plan.

I’m trying something new 😁 Power Armor but No Weapons. The character is level 15 so it’s Raiders. I’m beginning to think that Raiders with the Welded rebar chest mod is secretly OP. I literally clearly the Whitesprings golf club ⛳️ by standing still while rebound damage killed all the ghouls. 😆

Ok i must be missing something, im using a stealth sniper build, have all the perks, and i get that i dont have instigating but wtf- im not hittin for that much at all, im not using prime but i have a TSE hunting rifle and im like, 5-6 shotting super mutants, not 1 shot, and hitting for 110 ish, def not 700

no need to craft ammo, i get enough ammo from looting but then i use the normal .50 ammo

I also get nostalgic I gave my bloodied rifle away after an update it wasn't the same as before where you had a one shot even at super mutants with high level ... those we're times 😂😂 for a sniper the range was weak but the rest okay 👍

An easy-to-get, potent weapon that will last for quite some time.
Great guide as always. Though it speaks volumes that it requires an apparent bug to make the hunting rifle a modestly viable one for trash mobs.
