    Hi there... Thanks. This is so helpful. One question: We shot with a SIRUI 35mm T2.9 1.6x Full-Frame Anamorphic Lens. In Premiere, when I go to interpret footage, I don't see an option for 1.6. I made use of your 2nd option of changing the sequence settings and manually stretching it, but I'd love to view the footage desqueezed in the source monitor as well. Would be grateful for any suggestions. Thanks!

    What about that “HD anamorphic 1080 1.33” when footage was shot on 4k? Wat does the 1080 mean? Does it bring 4k footage back to 1080p? If yes...What is the best option to keep 4k quality? Thanks in advance!

    • @StephenBell_video
      @StephenBell_video  3 года назад +9

      The sequence settings are what would change the video setting and presentation, not the HD Anamorphic aspect ratio selector for desqueezing. This HD Anamorphic 1080 1.33 conforms the stretch of the video to match the anamorphic ratio of the lens. The 4k is preserved :)

    • @StephenBell_video
      @StephenBell_video  2 года назад

      @@marcinhaas4953 In premiere try adapting to more traditional at 1.33x for a quick result, or count the conversion by the stretch ratio calculation. It might cut off some information though

      I wish the Sony a7Siii could record using its full 3:2 sensor uncropped like the Lumix S1H 😢 desqueezing S1H footage from a 1.6x lens comes out to (my personal maximum in terms of aspect ratios) a perfect 2.40:1 aspect ratio (whereas in the Sony, in its current firmware state, the desqueezed footage becomes a 2.84:1 aspect ratio which is much too wide imho).

    I am having a bit of trouble de-squeezing especially shooting in 4:3 (full sensor) anamorphic on the GH6 using the Sirui Lens. When I use the 1.33 modifier it still doesn't look right in a timeline. I am probably doing something not smart lol. Thx for any thoughts Stephen!

    • @StephenBell_video
      @StephenBell_video  Год назад +1

      Hello! Open gate shooting shouldn’t be too much of an issue with the Sirius, and I believe the gh6 has an anamorphic mode? Sometimes you need to modify the footage a bit past 1.3, try the 1.6 option?

    • @jeskid
      @jeskid Год назад +1

      @Stephen Bell thx for the reply! It's an anamorphic mode but meant to squeeze regular lens into a full 4x3 sensor. Basically, I'm doing a double squeeze into that mode. I want to get it right rather than eyeball. I'm also trying to figure out the number when using a 17x9 setting and desqueezing. Math!

  • @GayBoucheryGonzague
    @GayBoucheryGonzague 3 года назад +8

    The first step was correct, the second was not. The first step it show 1.333 and that is indeed what you have to X for in the 2nd step. So 3840x1.333 = 5118 and since that does not really exist in video you have to round it up to 5120 and then only when you have 5120 your video will be 5K ready on RUclips. 1/3rd is not 0.3 but rather 0.33333333333 and 1.33 Anamorphic is more like 1.333333333... To get it right.
    Bottom line : 3840x1.33333333333 = 5,119.9999999872 or 5120.

    • @StephenBell_video

      HelloGB Gonzague & Stephen and Janakay.
      I am more a photographer than a videographer and I use Sirui anamorphic 50mm on Nikon Z6 for stills.
      My question is a bit technical. I do the same thing as you, but in Photoshop. But when I multiply my width pixels, my fear is that I ask to Photoshop to create pixels that weren't there.
      Am I wrong ?

    Hm, I can't make this work.. Well, I bought the moment anamorphic lens when i had my iPhone 12. Lately I upgraded to the iPhone 12 Pro version and used the lens in 2x mode. Otherwise no other built in lens would have worked. However, my footage is 4032x1704 and I can't fix it with this tutorial 😣

    I change it to anamorphic 1.33 and when I drop it onto my timeline it’s just zoomed to fit the sequence settings so I have to zoom it out to get my full image and my black bars. Anyway to just go straight to black bars and it set correctly width wise?

    • @StephenBell_video
      @StephenBell_video  Год назад +1

      I usually conform and interpret my footage before placing it on a timeline, then the footage is set to the video specs - if I need to add crop bars I adjust the sequence accordingly to letter box the video

    Thanks, but when I import my 4k footage(.mfx) in AE or Premier, it only shows 1080p in source property, but in davinci resolve it shows proper 4k.

    • @StephenBell_video

      Make sure your export settings are matching your source files. I have been finding many issues of late with mfx files in premiere- frequently on projects I’m getting dropped frame errors out of nowhere since upgrading the OS. I swear Apple is trying to steer users away from Premiere…

    What happened to the black bars in the second variation ?

    • @StephenBell_video
      @StephenBell_video  3 года назад +1

      Hello! The second variation is the true crop without the bars, showing only the correct aspect ratio. There have been various instances where filmmakers want to show the correct anamorphic crop in a frame without the bars. The Bars signify the correct 16:9 regular viewing ratio on most screens. You can however show the non cropped bar option on RUclips, and it will show it as a longer rectangular look
