    Nice to hear two photographers that acknowledge that other systems do some things better. Nothing worse than a Nikon shooter who thinks every Nikon ever made was best in class and is perfect. Same goes for Sony and Canon.

    Great video and being a 7R5 user I mostly agree with Ricks perspective too. Just watch out the link in description for the lexar card are for type B but this camera uses type A cards instead.

    Love my A7RV, amazing all around camera. High resolution for cropping, great autofocus, fast enough rapid fire, and a bunch of other features im still learning to use.

    Great Video and the compare. I also started with the A7S and went A7RM2 etc etc to the A7RV. A couple things Mod 1 and 2 you can download apps on to the camera the main one is the "Digital Filter" no need to carry a bunch of fitters and holders. Mod 2 and after there is a hidden thing called "Bright Monitoring" I assign to the trash can button. Lastly the A7RV is even great doing Astro Milky Way. Not a Pro just a hobbyist. Before you buy the camera of your choice buy a book on it. One hidden item is the formatting if you go to format and press the trash can you do a complete reformat getting rid of saved settings you can save having to do a redo of a save settings, Ah yes you can also after assigning all your settings save them to the camera but on the SD card suggest have a external SD card with current settings handy.

      Great tips. I was a bit confused, however, about your point about downloading apps like the “Digital Filter” on the camera. Does this function still exist for the A7RV? I recall that I was able to do this with my NEX 7 but didn’t think I could still download apps on the newer Sony bodies.

    This is why I stick with my Z6. It does what I need it to do at this point. Why buy anything else until I need it. Grandkids will be doing sports in a few years---then I will get the Z9 equivalent at that time.

    Amen on the firmware updates. I bought into Nikon with a Z8 and use a Megadap adapter because I was tired of waiting for updates for my A1.
    The Sony glass works great and I get aperture rings to boot! Waiting to see Sony’s next step.

    Also, Crop mode actually AF is even better because it used all of the crop part of the sensor on the A7RV. YES - I wish Nikon has Memory Recall stored in-camera. *The a7rv video is pixel binned (not the same). The a7rv is an 90% stills & 10% video camera.

    The reality is now all these camera brands have great image quality, it's all about which camera has the best sensor readout speeds that give you no more rolling shutters and no cropping on the full frame for 4k so wide angle lenses don't get compromised . EG best fastest read out sensors right now are the Nikons Z9 , Z8 and the new Sony global shutter . Be very interesting what the rumoured Nikon Z6III will be , as it would need to be a baby Z8 to be relevant and have Z8 up to date tech . The Z6III body will also have the much liked designated focus select button no longer buried in menus , just like Z9 and Z8 and a better more usable screen.

      Totally depends on what's important to you. Dynamic range and lowlight iso performance matter much more to many like me than the features that matter more to you. All the brands are doing awesome bodies right now. That's the bottom line.

    Hudson, you should try the Sony A7CR as a Q3 substitute. The viewfinder is not great, but you could swap lenses with Rick.

    • @HudsonHenryPhoto
      @HudsonHenryPhoto  5 месяцев назад

      Ha! There's nothing that can replace that particular 28 1.7 Leica lens or thier amazing user interface. Nikon and Sony should both be taking notes to be honest. Nothing on earth right now competes on the same level as the Q2/3. You'll find the Q2 in Rick's hand a good deal of the time too for the same reasons. Once you try one, you can't put it down.

    • @rlepage2007
      @rlepage2007 5 месяцев назад

      The viewfinder on the 7CR is a definite step back for me. I've thought about it, mostly to have a back-up body, but it's hard to look through the EVF. I might end up buying a used A7IV (or a new A7V when that one is announced).

    • @petergordon4666
      @petergordon4666 5 месяцев назад

      Agree that the viewfinder is a step back and particularly a problem in bright light for changing functions. For me the viewfinder is adequate for composition. Still, I am willing to put up with this for the Leica like form factor with the ability to capture with small primes at 61MP. I use this as a travel body, but not for wildlife which for me is Z9 territory. My M9 and wonderful Leica lenses are now used less frequently. I considered buying an M11, but price and poor reliability reports were deterents.@@rlepage2007

    Thanks for this video on the Sony a7rV. I have a question for Rick, I have a Sony a7rv and I also use ON1 Photo RAW 2024. When I switched from the 7riv to the 7rv, I lost Sony camera profiles in the develop section of ON1 Photo RAW 2024. Does Rick have the same issue? Is there something I need to do either on the camera or the software to get these profiles back? I would love to see some more videos on setting up the Sony a7rv and how Rick uses different functions on the camera.

    • @rlepage2007
      @rlepage2007 5 месяцев назад +1

      I hadn't noticed not seeing the profiles in Photo RAW 2024 -- the profiles for the rV in the popup as Camera Neutral/Portrait/Standard/Vivid, and there are also a slew of which appear to have been added via Camera Raw (they have very specific names and a .DCP extension at the end). You might want to do a search on your system to see if you have any .DCP files that start with 'Sony ILCE-7RM5 Camera.' You could then use the import command at the bottom of the Profile pop-up in Develop to import those.
      I will say that a basic comparison between the Camera Neutral/Portrait/Standard/Vivid items and the ones with the 'Sony ILCE-7RM5...' appear to be identical.

    If you were happy with the noise and Dynamic Range from your D500 you will be very happy with that of the A9III as it falls between that of the D500 and the Z9/8. I have shot the A9III and the images are excellent and it is a spectacular camera for certain use cases. But like you guys, it is not a camera for me. A1 is fast enough, Leica M11 is my favorite to shoot with.

    • @HudsonHenryPhoto
      @HudsonHenryPhoto  5 месяцев назад

      I was once happy with the D500 DR & noise. Not in comparison with the modern sensors though. ;) That A9iii seems a very, very niche camera.
      If Leica makes an M with a built in EVF and subject detect manual focus assist like the ZF... Then I'll have a hard time resisting... The optical finder on the current Ms leaves me scratching my head, and the add on EVF is clunky. It seems enevitable. Have you tried manual focus with a ZF yet? Wow.

    • @stevendente9270
      @stevendente9270 5 месяцев назад +1

      @@HudsonHenryPhoto Yes, I have shot the Zf. Wonderful camera. Best EVF/LCD manual focusing experience available. I agree with you on the Leica Visoflex. Substandard in a number of ways. I almost never use mine. I do love range finder focusing. I invested dedicated practice time to get reasonably good at it. I rarely miss a shot with it. Same with Range Focus Techniques which is the fastest way to shoot there is. Next time we are out shooting together I will trade you my M for your Q3 (no way I am hauling around a Z9, maybe a Zf) for the day so you can see what I am taking about. You will fall in love. I think Leica should spend their R&D money making sure that the next generation of M maintains the quality of the RF, and upgrade it to have the best rear LCD and EVF in the industry. We don't need more other features, more mpx, or color science, or IQ. For the price we should have the best manual focusing experience in the industry. But that M glass. I can't do without it.
      As I said, I find the A9III very niche too. Sort of like a Tuxedo, you won't need it that often, but when you do, nothing else will work. Also like a Tuxedo better rented than owned.

    I have the A7RIV and A7RIVA which are great Cameras, I use them for all kind of photography, I never do video, I am very happy with these Cameras, though I do wish the EVF and the IBIS was better, but I am not ready for an upgrade, the A7RV is too much video oriented and I do not like the fully articulating screen which also makes the camera too thick. The A1 is not good enough for me with only 50 Mp and the stacked sensors do not seem to do any good for the image quality, only for speed and video. So I will wait for a Sony A7RV or something else, maybe when Sonys 93 megapixels full frame sensor comes, a stills only Camera will be GREAT !!! I often use the APSC mode, so it is like having 4 Cameras in two Camera bodies. I have only prime Lenses, I can recommend these Lenses Sony 14mm 1.8 GM, Zeiss Loxia Distagon 21mm 2.8 T*, Sony 24mm 1.4 GM, Sony Carl Zeiss Sonnar 35mm 2.8 T* ZA, Voigtländer APO-Lanthar 35mm 2.0 Aspherical, Sony Zeiss Sonnar 55mm 1.8 T* ZA, Voigtländer Macro APO-Lanthar 65mm 2.0 Aspherical, Zeiss Batis Sonnar 85mm 1.8 T*, Voigtländer Macro APO-Lanthar 110mm 2.5 and Sony 135mm 1.8 GM. I do like small compact prime Lenses and I wish for more high-end compact prime Lenses !

      @@thomastuorto9929 26 megapixels, it is the same sensor tech (pixels density) as in the new Sony A6700 with BSI-CMOS sensor, Fuji GFX II and Hasselblad X2 also have the same sensor tech (pixels density BSI-CMOS sensor with 102 megapixel. Fuji X-H2 and X-T5 have Sony 40 megapixels sensor, so we will see 93 megapixels full frame sensor cameras and 157 megapixels in Fuji GFX and Hasselblad cameras in the future.

    Another great video! I am happy to hear that Rick likes the A7R5 even after a year. It sounds like an amazing camera!
    Hudson, when ever I hear you talk about the Voigtlander 50mm f/1.0, I can't help but think it would be an ideal alternative to the Nikkor NOCT but a little wider, (very) slightly slower & at a significantly lower price point.

    • @HudsonHenryPhoto
      @HudsonHenryPhoto  5 месяцев назад +5

      Couldn't disagree more. Nikon does some things better than Sony. Sony does other things better than Nikon. Leica does things better than both but not as good in other ways. No brand is perfect, but all of them are REALLY good. Want an example? Just look to the A7RV's user modes. They include everything in the camera (menus wide including drive mode), do not reset exposure settings when you turn the camera on and off and backups of them are exportable, but stored in internal memory. Nikon could learn from that. ;-) I'm still a Nikon guy, but I'm not blind to thier weaknesses.
