  • George Plimpton was an American journalist, writer, editor, actor, and literary critic. He is best known for his participatory journalism, in which he immersed himself in various professional and amateur activities and wrote about his experiences. He founded and edited The Paris Review, one of the most influential literary magazines in the world. He also wrote several books, including Paper Lion, Out of My League, and The Bogey Man, based on his adventures in sports. He appeared in numerous films and television shows, often playing himself or a fictionalized version of himself. He was a prominent figure in the New York literary and social scene, befriending many celebrities and writers.
