    Massive improvement on the colours, always thought the reds were oversaturated on the normal Blu ray. One of the best horror movies of all time now looking near perfect.

    I didn't actually think there would be much of a difference as I own the mastered in 4k Arrow blu ray but actually wow, I am glad that they didn't run with the overall pallette pushing towards steely blue and went for the more warmer look, unlike that original blu ray that came out which was good for the time but I prefer the look of the Arrow version, I have the 4K limited edition on pre order, thank you for the vid, great job!

    Just watched on my LG C8. What an impressive transfer, especially considering that this movie is almost 40 years old. But didn't watch the blu-ray so don't have any comparison.
    This is how older titles should look. Full of detail with an analog filmic look. Natural colors and contrast.

      I actually think some of the effects are messed up tbh. It is a situation where a remaster can be too good for its own good. For example, pay super close attention to blood-it looks a tad fake and too new (as in very bright red and liquid pool like as opposed to dark bold red, old and crusty) in some areas.

    Best thing (not meant to be a pun) Carpenter ever did by miles, in my opinion. In fact this film works great if you put it in black and white, combined with 4k I bet that gives a great spooky vibe.

    It's always a mixed bag I think. In some (or most) instances the clarity of the people are nice and sharpened, and skin tones are not so pink and the "noise" is removed, but in other instances the red almost sems too red. The saucer crater scene almost looks too washed out. I appreciate the comparisons.

    One question does the Blu-ray coming with the 4K set feature a NEW transfer based on the 4K transfer or is it the same transfer that Arrow did ("4K mastered" from 2017)?

    • @Mymoonization
      @Mymoonization  3 года назад +1

      Well Arrow like Shout are independent and therefore, you will have a remastered version with this new edition but which will not be of the quality you see on my comparison in 4K version.
      Cheers !!!

      Press release details show that the US BD is the exact same Universal disc that was released before because it only features the PiP feature (which was corrected on the international release) but since the disc isn't actually out yet, we have yet to know (which make me wonder where the source of this comparison video has come from?)

    • @Mymoonization
      @Mymoonization  3 года назад +2

      Well dear Robert
      It's very simple, it's my distributor who provided it to me in advance; it comes indeed from the universal edition. Ask me next time 😉 !

    • @ryanbaker7404
      @ryanbaker7404 3 года назад +1

      Allegedly, Universal is throwing in the old BD they originally released, which was plagued with DNR and a relatively lower bit rate, as it was transferred to HD-DVD back in the day as well.

    The weird thing is my steelbook edition from 2018 is in 4k. My HDR turns on when i watch it. Im not sure how much better this is going to look but then the steelbook only has the dts hd 5.1 this one is getting the atmos track. I feel that is going to be worth the upgrade

  • @krisorgan
    @krisorgan 11 месяцев назад +1

    It does look better, but an extra cost of 20 odd pounds better, no not really. If they lowered the price of these 4k blu rays then I’d be more inclined to buy them. As it is the majority of the time I’ll get the blu ray, from a 4k scan, but the movie company’s are outrageously greedy, which is why dvd holds 60odd percent of physical media sales. I myself don’t buy dvd’s no more, but upgrading to 4k when I already have a decent copy on blu ray is just madness. Until it comes down in price 4k won’t be getting much of my money. There will the odd one I’ll buy occasionally but that’s it.

      @@Mymoonization I don't watch anything in zoom, if the picture is clear I'm good and sometimes the blu ray looks better or about the same not worth the extra price to rebuy..BUT will buy if there's an audio upgrade and in this case there is

      @@Mymoonization Oh, sorry, I guess I should say that I'm sure there is some upgrading for sure, but I just cant really tell the difference much anymore, usually what stands out to me is when they re do with too much blue and then the colors look off.

    • @Mymoonization

      @@williamcurry4606 Dear William, on what medium you watch this comparison because it would have to be seen on a TV calibrated by a professional and the HDR mode activated ?!

      @@Mymoonization hi again, I watched this on my tablet. I don’t know what HDR mode is or how to set it, my tv usually just sets off these days 🤷‍♀️

    • @Mymoonization
      @Mymoonization  3 года назад

      Hello
      Well, it all depends on your tablet. If it's recent, then it should detect HDR automatically. However, to better appreciate a 4K image it's better to go directly through a 4K HDR TV because that is how you can appreciate the resolution of the film.

    My Scream Factory disc looks as good as, or better in some shots, than the 4K here. And my disc doesn't look as soft or pinkish as the 2017 disc shown here. I'll be saving my money on this one.
