    PD, thanks for this video, the future of music is in good hands. These two gentlemen Holynn and Robin are outstanding. I am an American and was amazed at how well they both spoke English, with venues such as this the world is becoming a smaller planet. Getting to see other cultures and hear the universal language of music in this way is marvelous, as much an education as it is an experience. I'm an older guy and it's encouraging to see and hear them both. Holynn has a deeper speaking voice and his singing voice was a different sound and Robin has a great voice, both dressed well, of course the Koreans always dress well and should set an example for everyone.

    3:43 No, no, no. We have a proper "it" for things and objects. He was just trying to explain that our he/she is naturally gender neutral without any modern political biases. 😅
    Then again, people may still use "it" when referring to people in casual/cheeky/funny/friendly context anyway without even thinking and nobody will bat an eye.

    • @sele6138
      @sele6138 4 месяца назад +83

      in formal language, you use hän for people and se for animals, objects, etc... but in informal language, we use se for everything like he said. hän sounds too formal, it's only really used for sarcasm and beloved pets

    • @ellem8990
      @ellem8990 4 месяца назад +37

      @@sele6138This, I think it's more accurate to say that we say "it" than "hän". Almost no one says "hän" unless you're an author writing something or anything that would require someone to be formal.
      I wonder if "hän" is actually relatively new in the finnish language, since it doesn't exist in the spoken language and also related languages use almost a identical word in the same way (talking about the word "se", not "hän"). I can imagine swedes potentially having an effect there, but still not bringing gendered pronouns.

    • @SorbusAucubaria
      @SorbusAucubaria 4 месяца назад +15

      @@sele6138 I read somewhere that originally in finnish language "hän" and "se" were both used from animals and people alike but what word was used depended on the context and situation. When finnish grammar was formulated and standardised the people developing the grammar adobted rules from swedish and german languages because they could not decide any clear rules which word was used at which situation.

    • @Sombody123
      @Sombody123 4 месяца назад +4

      @@sele6138 It's still good to know the proper grammar before you go breaking it and that there's a proper "it" word to begin with.

    • @sele6138
      @sele6138 4 месяца назад +8

      @@ellem8990 yeah, to my understanding hän and se were both originally used for both people and animals like we use se now. The distinction between the two wasn't made until we got standardized grammar. Like @sorbusaucubaria says in their comment

      Wait what are the five oldest languages? I know turkish also doesn't have gendered pronouns and some minority languages related to finnish don't have them either. I personally like having no gender, not just because it's easier, but also it can sometimes expose our biases and make us reconsider things. I do wonder if this is part of the reason why Finland ended up being the first european country (and second in the world) to give women the right to vote and run for office.
