Zone 9b, Fresno here. I have learned so much about plants that grow well in this climate from you. I just love your enthusiasm and how much you appreciate each and every plant that you have. You would make an excellent teacher.
Hello my friend. This is more than just a video, you put love and passion into it. Great job! Thanks for sharing this video! I love your channel. Always believe in yourself and keep doing what you love, good luck! 🌺🌺🌺💎
Hi my beautiful friend Janey 🌺what abeautiful and amazing garden .your garden very attractive I lovet and I enjoyed a lot while waching your sweet video .Have awonderful day you and your family 🦋🌻🦋
First time watching your channel, I really loved the tour. I know this was last year’s tour but it got me excited for summer this year. Long time follower of Ciscoe Morris, Paul Allen, Planteria, Laura from Garden Answer and many others…your new on my repeat and dig gardening list❤ I don’t have much of a choice this year for working out in my garden as I had surgery 4 days ago….will be in a arm cast for 2 months and then 6 weeks of physical therapy. Just going to enjoy what I have. Watching YT gardening and drooling over all the pretty plants for my fix😊 Have been an avid gardener for 45 years and not being able to do what you love is definitely a challenge. This year will be a new set of eyes to just enjoy my garden beds throughout which I often tell my husband let’s go take a walk in our park😊 Thank You for sharing your beautiful cottage garden!
Janey, your garden is beautiful. The bulbs by the Oak are Amaryllis Belladonna, Naked Ladies. I used to have a ton in my backyard down in LA. Actually found some bulbs here in Virginia and planted them. So far they haven't bloomed, but I do get foliage early in the year. I'm hoping they will bloom this year. Gosh, I sure do miss some of the plants you can grow, and I can't here in hot, humid zone 7b, so I really enjoy seeing your garden. Thank you so much! PS I can talk about plants all day too!
Thanks for the identification Fredi! I love that they are called Naked Ladies! Perfect name for it! 😆 Enjoy the hydrangeas that you can grow in your humidity there! Thanks so much for watching and your sweet comment!
I agree with you Janey! I like it when you keep it real! I live in Texas 9a and I’m struggling with my garden because of the heat 🥵!!! I will be putting in irrigation in the fall. Watering by hand is so hard since I have a medium garden.
Love the realness of this tour. Plants are very much like people. Sometimes even we as people are not at our best...but that is OK and sometimes we need help to grow and bloom...just like plants. Loved it.
You absolutely have a beautiful garden. I watch a RUclips channel that this guy is an arborist and he lives in California and I’m sure he could tell you what kind of oak you have. His name is Blair Glenn and he is very knowledgeable. Of course you know I live in Tx and it’s hot here. So far 28 days with 100 degrees temps and we average only 20 days. Anyway keep up the amazing garden and God bless!
Hi Janey. Just beautiful & what a pleasure to see the beauty in the world with such chaos going on, so to see nature thrive, whether flowers, plants, vegetables blossom, it gives me a warm heart to start my day ♥
Beautiful garden 🌿 Wait until you see what people do to Crepe Myrtles ! Down here in GA they call it crepe murders! I used to trim mine in late winter , early spring! Such a pretty tree - I miss mine 🌳
Janey, I’m in 9b (Terrytown, LA) and I can’t get Foxglove to grow in the summer. Maybe it’s too much sun. I haven’t tried them in the fall or winter. I say leave them & see if they flush out in cooler weather. I like these longer videos, but my housework & cooking doesn’t get done LOL.
I recently discovered your channel and love your flower gardens! I have my canna lily in full sun. I think if you move yours from under the tree, you will enjoy it more and your hydrangeas will be the star of the show in that bed!
LOVE THAT CRAPE MYRTLE!! I want one like that in front of my daughter's bedroom window so when she's older she looks out & sees a sea of pink blooms! I'll have to keep my eyes peeled for that variety. I bought a shrub form tonto crape myrtle this spring because thats all I could afford.
Carmel-By-The-Sea is so beautiful! We vacationed there 20+ years ago and I was blown away at all the beautiful flowers. I still remember this one wall that was covered with the most gorgeous and vibrant pink hydrangea. Gosh it was stunning,.
When you showed us the side yard and the rain barrels I noticed the tree that appeared to be surrounded with gravel. I remember feeling sorry for that tree and it’s roots with the heat-absorbing rocks on its roots. Maybe give it some love/ compost and weak teas of seaweed and fish emulsion. Those birches look so whimsical.
Oh my goodness, that crape myrtle! I'm so jealous, it provides so much architectural interest all year and beauty while in bloom. I used to have a very gnarly, very old pink oleander tree in my parkway. I loved that tree and cried when it succumbed to oleander blight. Enjoy that beauty, mess and all. So worth it! Your garden is glorious. 💚 Had to come add I love Portulaca! My color theme this year is pink and white, but last year's Portulaca reseeded in a couple of spots so I left it. 😁
I love your yard. Love, love, love. Watching your gardens grow remind me that I don’t have to always have my gardens balanced and mirrored on each side. I vow to set my accountant personality aside and treat the gardens like a craft, not a spreadsheet. Haha Have you thought about adding even more coleus on the side garden by the street? I’ve had good luck here in 9A using them in areas where they get morning sun with afternoon shade. They really spread and fill in any open areas. Just a thought.
Thank you so much! Haha it's hard not to put the garden into perfect lines and form! That is a wonderful idea about the coleus, thank you! I have a flat of them that I was JUST thinking about where to plant and you just solved it for me! 😘
Good morning Janey everything looks beautiful and your hard work has paid of!!!!i cant find anywhere here this ageratum we only have a hybrid dwarf ageratum which doesnt last...i also looked everywhere for this rose of Sharon blue chiffon but also no luck cant find it! :-(
Laughing at the road sign, moral of that story is if you stand too long on her corner you will have a vine crawling on you. Nice tour . Yes, we have hot, hot summers. I too am in zone 9b Elk Grove area.
The Superbena Sparkling Amethyst is one of my favorites too. I purchased a generic (non PW Brand) and it is doing phenomenal and is huge! I love it! You are right about the Heliotrope! It is the Marine variety. I found one after I saw the video where you raved about them! Thanks Janey! 😊
Thank you my friend! I didn't know they had generic kinds of the sparkling amethyst! I'll keep my eye out! I have been drawn towards one that I keep seeing that is a red faded to pink. It's SO GORGEOUS! Thanks for watching and your comment!
Hi Janey. So happy I just discovered your show, because I'm in zone 9b northern CA too. Your garden looks beautiful! I like seeing what works for you and what doesn't. It's so helpful. So hot and dry here. I'm trying to go with drought tolerant plants, but sometimes even those plants get fried. I thought echinaceas were drought tolerant, but someone from a local nursery said "not in California." They still need regular watering. Yes, those spikes coming out of the ground that you questioned look like Pink Naked Ladies or Belladonna. I love them, they used to grow around the farm where I grew up. Thank you for the garden tour.
Good Morning Janey! Love, Love your Garden Tour! I have a Foxtail Fern in a Large Pot. I got it @ Lowe's & Never knew the Name!! Love it. Keep up your Awesome work in your Garden. Love & Hugs 😘❤️❤️
Oh that was so fun! I love your crepe myrtle SO much. It would be worth the mess to have that gorgeous color. Your whole garden is all so pretty. Thanks for sharing your it with us. I for one am glad you could talk about plants all day but then many of us probably could. 😊
First morning on vacation here in northern California by the coast and watched your tour in full. Thank you so much for taking the time to go through the plants. It is really helpful. You have given me ideas for my own garden projects in Portland Oregon zone 8. I think your idea of moving the calla lilies to the back shade area is a good idea and I'd suggest taking some of the foxtail fern back too. They would look great together- frame the front of the lilies with the ferns. Keep up the great teaching and learning journey you are on, it is sooo helpful.
You have every reason to show off that beautiful crepe myrtle. It just have been a beautiful summer gift when it started blooming in the first year of being in your home. That is actually my favourite colour blossom of all the crepe myrtles. That form and shape is stunning against the blue sky. I don’t mind the dropping blooms - looks like a pink carpet. Love from sunny Sydney, Australia.
I have a rambling garden in Barbados that's much like yours. My Crepe myrtle is small now.. I really enjoyed your tour just found your channel. Thanks so much for sharing.
You asked what those bulbs are. I think that they are Naked Lady. They are drought tolerant. Pink flowers. they are called that cuz they flower without any leaves appearing. They are related to amaryllis.
Now THAT 'S a Crepe Myrtle!! What an opening! It has the presence of a mature bougainvillea! Verbena loves your space! Gorgeous!! Trailing purple lantana is a beast for me in Texas! My full sun space is limited, so I might be giving mine the boot after this year, because it just doesn't bloom great in part sun. Leadwort (hardy plumbago), candytuft, creeping phlox, and pink skullcap would all do well in place of the lantana next to the lamium. Leadwort has flowers summer to fall with fall color foliage in fall. The other 3 would be evergreen for you. Skullcap might lose some foliage possibly in winter.
Oh thank you Sonja! Just remember you only see a little on my videos! You don't see the messy house and piles of laundry! It's all there! You are a super woman too! 💪🏼😘
Homestead Verbena was found here in Georgia so you were close! I couldn't believe the story behind them myself. I have 6 of them in my yard and we get SO many compliments on them. We have them in full sun...like...all day, and it's just a sea of purple as long as I keep them fertilized and deadheaded!
I did a video of my garden for the first time. Great idea & love that I did this. I'm from Canada & absolutely love finding your videos. Great inspiration to me
Bring on the back garden 🪴 tour 🥰 Thankyou for sharing your beautiful garden with us! I could have continued watching for hours! Couldn’t keep my eyes off that crepe myrtle tree! Stunning with the perfect blue sky xx
Just love your garden tours and all videos Janey… Pure joy….and always so inspirational… Huge thanks and love to you as always… Hang on in there with the remodel, your beautiful new bathroom will be so worth it 👍💚💚💚
I think your bulb is Amaryllis Bella Donna or Naked Ladies. A beautiful pink bloom in summer after the leaves die back in spring. Janie, your garden I'd stunning. What a variety of plants you have. I vote for the Caladiums for the flower box could be because that is what I have in my flower box along with hostas. Lol It is so nice seeing your enthusiasm!
Janey, your crepe myrtle is the most stunning specimen I have ever seen! absolutely amazing! I really liked your cyclamen /lamium combination. Think Im going to steal your idea! Also love how they along with the super vista jazz berry echo the colors of your crepe myrtle. I think more jazz berry by the penisetum will look stunning. Also love the ivy espalier. Your front garden is beautiful!
Absolutely beautiful. You have used your space wisely and it shows!! Glad you listened to all of us who love a long interactive video with your tour ❤ I thoughouly enjoyed all the info on you plants. Loved it
Your tree is stunning! WOW! I love your garden tours. My garden is suffering from a heat weave here in South Germany. We have no irrigation and watering is difficult. I can´t keep up with it. But last night it rained - YEAH! Love 💛🦋💛
Your garden is so pretty. I just wanted to let you know that you can easily propagate the begonias. I've just pinched a branch and stuck it in the ground and they grew! Of course you'd need to start them in a shady area. I could talk about gardening all the time. Enjoy your weekend, my friend.
I’m only a year late to view this and I haven’t read through the other comments, but about that bulb without leaves, I think it’s a Naked Lady. They grow all over the Sac Valley and up into the foothills. They’re a sweet scented pale pink lily. A nice surprise when they show up. Leaves grow at other times of the year, I think. I recall them growing at abandoned homesteads on the old Pony Express Trail.
I have loved this tour, with the commentary on what is working, what is not, and what you want to change. Take a look at loropetalum to replace those daylilies as they can handle a lot of different light situations including that kind of high shade. There are a lot of different size options these days, for example 'purple daydream' is 3x4 at maturity. There are even groundcover varieties that don't get taller than 1'.
Linda you are awesome I love your cottage just beautiful I’m in East Texas use to live outside of Tulsa and yes it does get cold in OK God bless Have a awesome week. Jodie
Thank you for taking so much time to go in depth about each garden bed and plant. I really enjoyed this video and you have helped me so much with my own garden journey! 🥰 I know it takes a lot of time to do these in depth videos so I hope you know how much we appreciate them! 🧡
I'm having the same issue with my limelights, I'm thinking of putting mine in part sun rathern than full sun. Have you thought of transplanting your limelights over to the cottage garden and just make a beautiful limelight hedge?
Oooh I like that idea Jhazper! That would be gorgeous! I have some in part sun in my backyard and they are doing much better so I know I'm just pushing them to their limit with our heat!
You have such a beautiful garden space! We just bought a house in November and I’ve been impatiently trying to add flower gardens to the yard as when we moved in all that was here was ornamental grass! You’re an inspiration but I could not stand those triple digit temps in Cali! 🥵
Hi Jason! Thank you so much for saying that! Oh how excited to have a new landscape to work on! How fun! Yes, the triple digits are NOT FUN!! Thanks for watching!
They are called Magic Lilies or Spider Lilies in my garden. Sister in law gave me 2 or 3 50 years ago and over the years I have separated them and transplanted them all over my yard. BEAUTIFUL surprise end of July when They shoot up overnight. Magical and delicate in the midst of summer. The green fronds come up in spring along with my daffodils. Let them brown down before cutting back because the bulbs feed on the green fronds then when my garden is looking a little sad end of July these magic or Spider Lilies come up overnight and such happy and delightful surprise. Our hot sun usually takes them out in a few days. I wish we could have them around longer. I just LOVE them!!! Hope you enjoy yours as much as I love mine. SUPER BIG HUGS AND MUCH LOVE
I’m in SWFL zone 10 and I can say that Salvia Mystic spires is one that we use at work and one I have in my garden as well! It’s such a work horse and constantly has bees, I planted some with verbena bonariensis for insane pollinator impact. The bees are on the salvia all day every day and then the verbena gets sulfur butterflies and fritillary butterflies it’s awesome!
Love your garden!! Absolutely beautiful!! Will you show us sometime how you cut back your Superbena? We are in the same zone and would love to keep growing mine on.
Hi Aimee! Yes I will definitely show you but honestly I just hack it back! 😆 Leave at least a few leaves on each stem but it will bounce back in our zone!
Great tour! A lot of good information and ideas! Your purple hyacinth bean on the road sign was the highlight of the show! Just beautiful! You need another one on the road sign in the fairy garden. 🍃M
Wild rose coral berry by PW would be beautiful around the landscape rock in the afternoon sun spot. Mine are planted in similar microclimate and are thriving! So pretty!
I cannot begin to tell you how HAPPY I am to find you! I love your update videos too, SO helpful! Thank you so much! I struggle so much with 9B zone! What happened to your peonies? I am giving up on even trying to grow them here in West Sac.
Evertything looks fantastic - makes me want to get out and work in my yard, however with the heat it's a bit difficult! Those pink mystery blossoms popping up are probably "Naked Ladies", because they come up out of the ground sorta naked with no foliage. How fun that you have those!
Hi Janey, you mentioned your fox glove won’t self seed because to much mulch. Question for you, could you not thin the mulch just under them since things are filled in. Perhaps they would self sow?
Hi Caren! Yes I probably could but honestly I don't trust things self seeding here since we are so dry during the winters! I'm sure some would come up, but I just wouldn't rely on it! If only we had more rain! Thanks for watching and your suggestion! 💗
Beautiful garden! Have you ever consider purple queen/heart plant (Tradescantia Pallida)? It will look great in the space where the Lantana is. One of my favorite plants and it does well here in north Florida.
I have recently started a gardening channel on RUclips and I can so relate with what you are saying about doing a garden tour as is. I have a bucket of weeds or a hose lying everywhere, and a weed or two showing here and there, but that is rl😉 Your garden is beautiful, and you seem like such a lovely person, so glad that RUclips recommended this video. Subscribed💕
Great tour of your beautiful garden. Your begonias may have a blight or mites as opposed to irrigation problem. That is usually the case if plants are fine one year and not the next.
Over an hour of pure JOY what a stunning garden Janey your hard work has really paid off, thankyou for the wonderfull tour xxx
Thank you SO much Linda! That is so sweet!
Zone 9b, Fresno here. I have learned so much about plants that grow well in this climate from you. I just love your enthusiasm and how much you appreciate each and every plant that you have. You would make an excellent teacher.
I am officially addicted to these garden tours , very inspirational.
Haha thank you! I appreciate that!

I agree with you Janey! I like it when you keep it real! I live in Texas 9a and I’m struggling with my garden because of the heat 🥵!!! I will be putting in irrigation in the fall. Watering by hand is so hard since I have a medium garden.
Oh Deree, I can't even imagine watering by hand right now! Good luck and stay cool!! 💗
I’m in Texas 9A, too. I can’t imagine how you’re hand watering in this heat!! It’s been unreal this year. Hang in there and stay hydrated.
Love the realness of this tour. Plants are very much like people. Sometimes even we as people are not at our best...but that is OK and sometimes we need help to grow and bloom...just like plants. Loved it.
Thanks so much Shane! It’s so true!
Omg that's just the front yard just wait for the back love it
Just watched this tour for the second time. This time I watched in February & possibly enjoyed it more than the first time.
So sweet and lovely share dear

You so inspired me this morning that I had to pause the video and go clean up my flowerbeds!🤣 Thanks, Janey!
Yay!! Thats amazing Dawn! 😆😘
Looking AMAZING!! We are frying in Texas, so it is nice to be able to see all these beautiful blooms and plants!
Oh Dawn stay cool!!! I really really hope it cools down soon! 🤞🏼🥵

Absolutely beautiful love everything! You are such an inspiration 😊
Thank you so much for saying that Michelle!
Hi Janey, it might be a naked lady lily. So called because there are no leaves until later.jd
Loving these long perfectly imperfect garden tours!!! Thank you for sharing 🌷
Yay thank you!
You have every reason to show off that beautiful crepe myrtle. It just have been a beautiful summer gift when it started blooming in the first year of being in your home. You asked what those bulbs are. I think that they are Naked Lady. They are drought tolerant. Pink flowers. they are called that cuz they flower without any leaves appearing. They are related to amaryllis.
It looks like the plumbago had spider mite. Not sure, but thought I saw webs at the bottom.

Thank you so much Jeannie!! 😘
Where can I find the purple Hyacinth bean? It’s so pretty. Thank you for sharing your video. You have a beautiful garden.
I just saw seeds in johnnys catalog
Wonderful tour Janey 💕 I have thoroughly enjoyed it to see everything looking so beautiful 🌸💕🌸
Thank you so much Jasmine!
I agree, caladiums in the flower box!
I thought it looked like some kind of amaryllis also. And I agree with the choice of the caladium for the window box.
Thank you so much Donna! You absolutely should do the lamium and cyclamen combo! It's a winner!
Absolutely beautiful. You have used your space wisely and it shows!! Glad you listened to all of us who love a long interactive video with your tour ❤ I thoughouly enjoyed all the info on you plants. Loved it
Haha thank you so much for your input Karen! I appreciate it! 😘
Everything looks perfect to me. Enjoyed the video.
Thank you so much for saying that Elizabeth!
Thank you for a wonderful tour of your gorgeous front yard
Thank you so much for watching and your kind words!
Your tree is stunning! WOW! I love your garden tours. My garden is suffering from a heat weave here in South Germany. We have no irrigation and watering is difficult. I can´t keep up with it. But last night it rained - YEAH! Love 💛🦋💛
Oh thank goodness for the rain Joy! Thanks for watching and stay cool my friend! 🥵
Your garden is so pretty. I just wanted to let you know that you can easily propagate the begonias. I've just pinched a branch and stuck it in the ground and they grew! Of course you'd need to start them in a shady area. I could talk about gardening all the time. Enjoy your weekend, my friend.
Great video! I enjoyed it very much! And I agree with you, I prefere to prune shrubs in a natural way.
So beautiful love the color flowers on the tree and of course your garden in general. Thank you for your time.
Thank you so much for watching Rosario!
Such a beautiful garden!
Absolutely GORGEOUS garden display!
Breathtaking!!
Jodie
Thanks Jodie 💗
Thank you for taking so much time to go in depth about each garden bed and plant. I really enjoyed this video and you have helped me so much with my own garden journey! 🥰 I know it takes a lot of time to do these in depth videos so I hope you know how much we appreciate them! 🧡
Thank you so much for saying that! I really appreciate it and good luck with your gardening! 💗
So beautiful! You inspire and motivate me to make my garden as colorful and beautiful as yours! Love your videos 💖🌸
Oh thank you Laura!
Janie I LOVE YOUR CHANNEL, I be looking forward to it 😁😁
Yay thank you Melissa!!
Love the tree and your whole garden thanks to a great garden 👍👏👏👏👏
Wowwwwww! That’s amazing, love our pollinators so very much 🐝
Love your garden!!
I agree!! Will do and thanks for watching!
Those pink flowers you were asking about are called pink naked ladies. The flowers come first and then the leaves after. Very pretty.
Wild rose coral berry by PW would be beautiful around the landscape rock in the afternoon sun spot. Mine are planted in similar microclimate and are thriving! So pretty!
Oh thank you!!! Great suggestion!
Beautiful😍💓 Sharing 💐💐💐💐💐👌
Thanks so much 💗💗💗
I cannot begin to tell you how HAPPY I am to find you! I love your update videos too, SO helpful! Thank you so much! I struggle so much with 9B zone! What happened to your peonies? I am giving up on even trying to grow them here in West Sac.
Wow now that is incredible!
Thanks for watching John!!
Evertything looks fantastic - makes me want to get out and work in my yard, however with the heat it's a bit difficult! Those pink mystery blossoms popping up are probably "Naked Ladies", because they come up out of the ground sorta naked with no foliage. How fun that you have those!
Thanks Cyndie! Haha what a cute and totally appropriate name!
The oak tree bed is looking great, I recently visited NC and they have full grown crepe myrtyles, so jealous they’re not truly hardy for me!!
I have a bucket of weeds or a hose lying everywhere, and a weed or two showing here and there, but that is rl😉
Your garden is beautiful, and you seem like such a lovely person, so glad that RUclips recommended this video. Subscribed💕
I think the volunteers in the oak tree garden are Naked Lady Lily (Amaryllis Belladonna)
Loved it...absorbed alot of information. Thank you.
Great tour of your beautiful garden. Your begonias may have a blight or mites as opposed to irrigation problem. That is usually the case if plants are fine one year and not the next.
Oh thank you! I'm not familiar with blight on begonias but will definitely look it up!
Thanks for sharing
beautiful 😍 everything looks beautiful ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Thank you so much Pamela!
Absolutely beautiful
Thanks Dave!
