I grew up on 250 of the best acres in the world. We had a pond, a stream, a cave, you name it. I'll never forget being 10 years old, sitting with a family of beavers all day while listening to the red winged blackbird.

I never knew what bird mad that call. Until recently. Stupid conservation protecting certain birds have caused a massive population boom. And they're now nesting in non-wetland areas; in peoples front lawns and it dry parks.
Highly aggressive, they're literally attacking children and adults alike in parks and the backyard.
In Idaho our fish and game states they're abundant and common, but due to a migratory bird law they're "non-game protected". Sort of silly. Because now they're a complete nuisance worse than rats and mice.

Nil Desperandum a fam of beavers? Wow how many? We watch a fam of 4 and those little engineers ( as I like to call them) are amazing. I know this is a video about the red wing blackbird and this is another beautiful creature that we love to watch and listen to while we’re waiting for the beavers to appear we have several areas that we watch where we have beavers and Beaver huts and I can’t wait for the Redwing blackbirds to come back some say they’re here now I haven’t heard one yet but I have heard some other spring bird calls and I don’t know how do identify them so I don’t know what they are I just know I hear them when it’s warmer this is too early winter hasn’t really appear to New England there’s no snow pack here there’s no snow at all so there’s nothing to melt I don’t think the ground is frozen I think the animals are confused we appear to be having an early spring in the middle of winter I just hope all the species can survive

My grandfather once told me that every great man will hear the call of a Red-winged blackbird at one time in their life. i was in the car with him when i asked if he had heard one. he told me that no, he had yet to be blessed by this bird's call but he was not disappointed. instead he believed that the day when he heard the call would be the happiest of his life, and that this gave him hope for the future.
i mentioned we were talking in the car, if you are easily upsetted please do not feel the need to keep reading.
a drunk driver ran a stop sign while we went through the intersection and t-boned our car. the doctors said my grandfather likely would not live for more than two days, but he stayed in a coma for weeks. one day, in a desperate attempt to wake him, i played this video on his bedside. at the end of the video, exactly 3:27 pm, my grandfather passed away. my wife and brother said i imagined it, but i could have sworn i saw him smile as he passed.
Thank you for this video. you may not know how important things like this are until things like this happen.

Laying on a trailer by the acorn tree in the pasture, or riding the 4wheeler through the woods to the other back pasture. Let me tell you what it means to find this bird call finally. I grew up in a suburb where I heard these birds as I walked to school in the morning. I loved it then but then I finished school and didn't hear it again and probably didn't remember them...until I heard them again almost 35yrs later and it suddenly took me back to that peaceful time walking in the brisk morning air to school. But I never knew what they looked like much less what they were called. I looked online. Every time I heard one I froze and stared at the trees trying to get a glimpse of it to find in a bird book. You hear about the crazy lady in the Target parking lot looking up into the trees? That was me. ☺️ It has taken me about 4 years since that memory came back to me to find out it's the red winged blackbird! And I am so happy to have that auditory memory of my happy childhood! Thank you!

Growing up in central Ohio, this is the sound of my youth... playing with my friends in the creeks, fishing at the lake a few miles away, while hunting. It never dawned on me that the redwing blackbird sang a particular tune, calling the name of my best friend in the world, whom I met in 1965 in kindergarten, Bill McKeever... he got me started in fishing, hunting, and all things growing up.
Bill committed suicide in 2016, not leaving a note for the true reason or his location. His remains were found a month later, in his favorite deer and turkey woods, near our favorite squirrel woods. Now, when I hear the redwing blackbirds calling his name, I am heartbroken... yet, I smile a little.....

And now that my ear is tuned to their calls I can identify them very easily. I heard these birds calling out yesterday (very warm day in SE MI) while I was outside doing things in my driveway. Wow I never knew what bird made that sound. I would here in the summer as a kid. I always admired the sound. I see these birds mostly near the beach. They’re very pretty.

I was raised on a farm and had a pond and several streams. I loved hearing the red winged black bird's sound. Brings back a lot of memories

Brings back memories of me and my dad on our early morning hunts through the fields and marshes in the sixties. I miss those days with my dad.

As much as I'm growing to love them these little buggers wake me up at 5:30am all the time. Singing on my roof. My bedroom windows are right next to the roof. BTW I live in the suberbs and they're still around.

My favorite bird song. Reminds me of my childhood home. There was a swamp nearby and quiet, misty Sunday mornings were filled with this tune.

I grew up with this song and the flash of those brilliant red shoulders through cattails lining waterways. Still - at 70 years - one of my favorite sounds

Pets aside, no other animals make me so happy like birds do. I even have six parakeets and they're my babies. When I walk outside and go to work and I'm met with a symphony of song birds and water/coastal birds it just makes me so happy.

Saw one at the backyard feeder yesterday. Usually don't see them in the suburbs. Always saw them on my grandparents' farm. Their call brings back memories of summer in the Indiana countryside.

What a lovely video, I saw three today in my backyard. I have bird feeders and so far I've seen red winged, cardinals, green jays, chacalacas, crows, pigeons, etc
