    This pack seems nearly identical to the Austrian Army rucksack aka the Austrian ALICE pack that I own and love. If you like this pack I recommend it. Very similar with some improvements and it is military spec gear. The Austrian pack does not have MOLLE webbing but it is compatible with Austrian, US ALICE, and Canadian pattern 82 pistol belts which you can attack all kinds of additional pouches and accessories. Once you have it all together the pistol belt functions as the waist belt of the pack and I even have ones of those Austrian combat packs you reviewed attached below the main pack. It makes for a very versatile load bearing system.

    As far as the internal frame sheet regardless of the Alice external frame I would suggest that the usgi 3 day assault pack internal plastic insert might be a PERFECT fit for the medium spec ups recon.

    This bag is freaking awesome!!! Its expensive, but its worth the price if you use it regularly, its DURABLE AS HELL and comfy with a frame. DO NOT waste your money on extra shoulder straps for the frame, you can use the ones already on it just fine.

I carry a maxpedition mongo for a lunch box for the last 7 yrs, Ive had to replace the male side buckle twice already.. thats about 8 open/closes 6 to 7 days a week.. I know not max, but plastic is plastic.. I will stick with the alice.

      As I do! But mine has a lot of miles on it so I am thinking about stuffing it with unopened gear still in the wrap for crunch time. I wore out a lot of packs but never an Alice, med or large. I was going to try an Israeli combat Ruck, but will put this one to the test. As I am 65 going on 35 I try and get 3 days out of every week. I will post My next 72 hour out in the bush. I will cut this new "Alice Type Pack" ZERO slack and will see if it can hold up to heavy use.

      Are you making a joke with the premise being Alice pack owners are fanatical about their Alice packs or are you actually serious and felt the need to make such a pointless comment? I'm sure you can think of ways the Alice is better in your opinion but to be able to use this pack without mods with both the Alice and molle 2 frame AND as a frameless assault pack beats out any advantage an Alice would have imho. Just admit something is a better piece of equipment than your beloved Alice pack for once for Pete's sake.

    +TOGR Hey, Luke. I happened upon an ALICE type ruck, thrift store special, and went ahead and got it, but I haven't seen it online so I was hoping you could tell me what I have, as someone ( presumably whoever owned it before me ) removed the labels inside, you can see where there were labels. It's canvas, tan-ish green ( or green-ish tan ), about 15" wide and 20 or so high. It has the familiar 3 outer pockets, not as big as the ruck in this video, the whole thing is pretty small, doesn't hold much, and it seems to be intended as an assault pack, patrol ruck, 24 hour sustainment pack, you get the idea. It has no attachment points for ALICE or MOLLE gear, the lid doesn't open, pockets aren't sleeves, doesn't have a "sock/chimney" collar for the main compartment, no internal radio pocket or anything. I would chalk it up to be some kind of ALICE inspired book bag, but it's pretty heavy duty, strong canvas, Fastex buckles, drawstring main compartment ( which is actually pretty generous considering the size of the ruck ), it's pretty featureless but feels sturdier than a novelty book bag. I happen upon military gear at this store from time to time ( got a nice bivy in a compression sack, plus some more goodies the same day ) Any idea on what I have? Any insight you can provide would be appreciated, thanks

    Here's one of my questions for this pack: with MilSurp Medium Alice packs coming in around $40-$50 depending on where you look, are there standout features to this that would make you recommend it over a good condition Alice pack? It's kind of unfair to compare milsurp to brand new because of the price disparity, but it does seem like SpecOps is actively trying to make that comparison.

    • @diddleydadburn
      @diddleydadburn 9 лет назад

      dustysquito Aftermarket packs like this and Blackhawk are much better quality than the standard issue. If you are carrying super heavy loads (ammo, water, optics, radios, and batteries), the standard issue will fell. I know from experience.

      +Diddley dadburn I carried a medium and large Alice for 12 years in the Infantry. They served me well with no failures. Never saw one fail in the company. Maybe the the frame but not the pack. With the large we somtimes carried close to 120 lbs. They held. Can't say much for the new molle gear. I wpuld try this pack as well as some others when money permits.

    • @diddleydadburn
      @diddleydadburn 9 лет назад

      Raymond Hollingsworth After reading my original statement, I may have been a little overzealous in stating the pack "will" fail. I should have stated it "can" fail. I've experienced two failures. Granted, one was while at JOTC (Jungle Operations Training Center) Panama, where everything rots off of you in a couple of weeks. The other was on a Long Range Patrol in Iraq (1st Gulf War) with 100+ lbs of gear. Needless to say this did not make my teammates very happy having to help carry my "load out". Mil Issue is very good quality, but if you compare material and workmanship to a top of the line back such as Blackhawk. There is really no comparison. Thanks for the reply.

    I would love to see how you hook a 1606 into this. That's something still pretty unclear to me: How can you take a seemingly arbitrary frame and somehow attach it to an arbitrary pack? Seems like they would have to be designed to go with each other.

      Tracy Reed They have some pictures on their website with the frame in there. It seems like the backpack was designed with that Alice frame in mind.

      Tracy Reed I will do a video on that for you as it can be a bit of a guessing game at first. Trust me, I know.

      Did the 1606 video ever happen? I ended up buying this pack. Had it nearly three years now. I love it. I bought a pack rabbit frame for it which is great.

    I'm sorry but all they did was copy a med. alice and add a few mods. I'm sorry but fail.

    Alice pack with frame should be about $35-40 or less....

    Prefer the good old ALICE pack with Molle II frame, shoulder pads and kidney pad. Never like civilian knockoffs, no where near as durable.

    Estonians have produced waterproof Combatsack. They also share a video of a quite impressive tests including water crossing, operations with armoured fighting vehicles and hiding from infrared imaging.
