Amazing Monitor, used it for almost 2 years before i had to get an RMA on the first one when the screen was spoilt. I use mini-displayport for my connection to my main PC and i discovered that if you turn on the displayport 1.2 option in the monitor settings you can`t use your mini-displayport for some reason. Excellent monitor for 1080p gaming. Now i use this monitor as a vertical setup to read documents, novels and surf the net. Thanks for the review!
I wish i could find an in-depth review of this monitor with hardware monitor and colour accuracy readings to see how it stacks up against current monitors. Its a gorgeous monitor but im really cautious on upgrading because of how good the picture quality is. but i need higher resolutions and refresh rate.
How haven't you hit 1,000,000 already?? Gosh, all the good RUclipsrs haven't been noticed yet :( any ways you're my favourite TechTuber and thanks for helping me to chose this monitor! They look sooooooo good ;D
Thanks! Haha takes a lot of time I guess to build up :) the more people that like what I do and share it around the faster that will happen I guess! Glad to hear you like the monitor :)
Thank you for the excellent review. I recently purchased this monitor and have been very impressed by the display quality, range of features and build quality.
Just found one on Offerup for $40. My kid was running a 22" 1680x1050 with no HDMI input. Nice little upgrade for her Minecraft and old R7 265 pushing it. It will be a great match for the GTX970 that will at some point end up in her PC once prices drop in GPU's and a upgrade will cause musical chairs of video cards in the house.
This is the best monitor review ever! I mean a lot of videos have great information and stuff but i like that you pretty much covered 100% of the monitor capability. I had many questions and you answered all of them. You then mentioned the Daisy chain capabilities and that helped a lot. I did watch that video. Thanks again!
I have owned this for like 6 years now. It is a great monitor, I have no complaints. Besides the touch screen buttons. They absolutelly completely suck. After about 2 year, they just simply stopped working. To get them to work again, I had to remove the plastic bezel, so you can touch the flex-PCB directly.
My partner didn't have much issues with them over the years, though recently upgraded to 4k monitors. No issues with the screen buttons that I'm aware of.
Thank you for an *excellent* review. (And no annoying, stupid "music" either!) I ordered one of these displays yesterday. I'm a Mac user of course, but the powers that be at Apple have made the decision to stop making displays. And so I had to look elsewhere for a suitable product and this one seems like a good buy. The Dell logo is a real eyesore, but I will be creative and put a nice sticker over it. :)
Question: My uses for a monitor are generally lots of text (WORD), some POWERPOINT PRESENTATIONS for Zoom, and soon, trying to view (and digitally adjust) films from an Edson V600 scanner. No gaming planned. Does ANY "monitor" accomplish these or do I need certain basics of something? If so, what? The Dell 24" UltraSharp U2414H looks appealing but I'm clueless.
hello, first i would like to thank you for this amazing video. at 4:00 you mean that i can use the monitors as 3.0 usb hub ? am using macbook pro 2012 what cable i need and if use this cable for the usb hub, still i need HDMI ? name of the cable please thanks a lot
Thanks! Yes that's right, you can use the monitor as a USB hub as long as you connect the included cable to the monitor and then to your laptop. It's a USB Type-A to Type-B super speed cable, it should come with the monitor. Yes you'll need it in addition to HDMI.
The monitor looks very good! But in the 4 Years I used it, I noticed that its not that good for gaming, because it has a 8ms reaction time and "only" 60Hz. But if you dont play Games its good because of the graphic!
I bought one a couple of days ago but on any of the standard modes, even SRGB the screen has such a strong yellow tint it's horrible. I also noticed the gamma settings are off with crushed blacks. You haven't found either of those things?
I have the u2414h as well, but I can't figure out how to charge my phone using the fast charging USB, like you do in this video. I've connected the type A-B USB into the USB 3.0 port on my laptop and into the back of the monitor. I can use the other 3 USBs normally, e.g. my harddrive works fine. But for some reason, the fast charging port doesn't provide power. Do you know what's wrong? I downloaded all drivers I could find for the monitor...
Is the USB port on your laptop powered? Usually laptops only have one powered USB port, and if you look closely it will have a little power / lightning bolt icon next to it.
Jarrod'sTech thanks for the reply, I was hopeful for a second but changing to the USB port with the lightning bolt symbol didn't change anything :( I think I might have a faulty unit...
Yeah just lets you have two inputs, although I don't believe you can have both display at the same time. Some higher price monitors let you do that, for instance have one device show on the left and one on the right.
Is the image quality for videos really that much better than that of the S series? S2419H in example, both are ips, both are flat. Both are 1080p. Only difference i manage to find is the colour gamut, does that really make a huge diference in image quality? considering between the S and U series but afraid if the image quality is about the same, since im only using it for movies
buy the cheaper one and save a few bucks, 1080p honestly doesn`t really matter. Or you can buy a TCL TV for the money you use on the monitor for watching movies.
I have a question. Since i am looking forward to purchasing the Xbox Scorpio..how will 4k resolution games look in a 1080 60hz monitor( I am on a budget).
I'm not sure if the 4K is down sampled to 1080p or if it just generates it as 1080p? If it's the former it could still look pretty decent and will probably better be better than standard 1080p.
Hello Jarrod's Tech and thanks for the video! Good job! The question that I have I believe is already answered in the comments below, but just to confirm... Comparing the retina display of a mbp with the display of the U2414h what's your reaction? Is the difference obvious between the two (pixel-wise and color-wise) ? The full HD resolution suits me fine (office work) but I'm afraid I'm gonna be disappointed when looking side by side the retina and the u2414h ... What's your opinion ? Thanks :)
Hey thanks! Yeah I did actually notice the difference while using both together. After the much higher resolution of the MBP, I felt like I noticed the individual pixels more easily on the Dell screen. I think Dell also do a similar 1440p monitor which could be worth checking out if you think the PPI difference will be noticeable for you.
Thanks for the super-fast reply! Regarding the u2515h (2Ks in general) I'm afraid that the objects (letters, texts, etc.) would be too small. I'm not sure, I guess I will have to work with it. According to my research, however, in case someone wants the best result (comparing to the retina display) he /she should buy a 4k monitor and use it in upscaled mode. This is similar to what mac os does with retinas. 2k upscaled won't do the job i'm afraid. At least that's what i'm reading on the internet. On the other hand, 4ks are too expensive. Hence, the alternative solution (at least for my case) is to 'compromise' with a Full HD monitor and run it on its native resolution. Anyway, thank you once again for the super-fast reply and keep up with the good work! I really appreciate it!
If you mean connecting the first monitor to the second then I don't think so, that sounds like daisy chaining which I believe is a feature of DisplayPort. If you mean connecting both monitors directly to the computer, then yes that's fine.
4:36 But with HDMI from computer to first monitor then displayport cable form first monitor to second monitor. Anyways, you already answered on my question. Thank you.
I'm having a problem with my moniter dell u2414h. I'm using a moniter dell u2414h, when i start window but no sound. I have a question: Does My moniter dell u2414h have a problem when I start window? and The sound will come out when I open the screen?
Sorry I don't really understand what the problem is, how are you connecting your computer to the monitor? You'd need to use a connection that supports audio for a start.
This is a fabulous review I must say! :) . However, one doubt persist, could see the USB port behind the monitor, is it type - C ? Can I escape from purchasing another adapter for the 2016 macbook pro ? (desp ) :( ? ie connect to the monitor with USB type C to type C cable ? or would I need a USB C digital AV Multiport adapter to connect via HDMI ?
Thanks! Unfortunately there are no USB type C ports on this monitor, only USB type A. For what you're trying to do it sounds like you'd need an adapter.
The monitor has both of those as input, so you'd just need an adapter to either. A recent laptop I looked at had thunderbolt over USB type-C port like the newer mabcook does which allowed it to connect to mini displayport, so that's probably what you want.
To be honest I haven't used them for those tasks so I can't really say, the monitors are my partners and she uses them primarily for gaming and are still working well
Its pretty good for gaming. Its got a pretty solid refresh rate and I've been able to use it with CSGO with more success than my other dell monitor. Its responsive and it works well.
@@JarrodsTech what about the screeb quality?? is it good? am really scared as its 5 year old , someone in my country is selling this to me for 90 t0 to 95$ in used , condition is just like new 10/10 no scratch at all
Hey, it looks pretty decent I think, with that said I waited to reply to you because I had a Spyder5 Pro calibrator in the mail which just arrived :) here's what this monitor reported: 96% SRGB 68% NTSC 73% AdobeRGB
How can you have Windows and Mac with a monitor. Do you use a laptop? And when you are using a laptop do you have to have the laptop open or it still works when is closed? Let me know.
I've only ever used it with the laptop still open, as I use the laptop as another usable screen. You should be able to have it closed though as long as it doesn't go to sleep on doing so, I've done this with other laptops in any case. I'm not sure what you mean in the first part of your question regarding having Windows and Mac on a monitor?
I mean, In some parts of your video I see that the monitor is with the software of Windows (I am sorry if Windows is not a software. I can of know somethings of computers technicism) and in some other ones is with the software of Mac. How can you do that? Thanks for the answer
I was running both Mac OS and Windows 10 on the laptop using Bootcamp, basically Bootcamp allows you to switch between either operating system. Both are installed, and you can use either.
I think it's still pretty good, they're still being used here and no issues 😃 not certain how their model names work, but that could be right! I think that's around the time it came out.
I just bought this model. But I can't put the resolution on all the dell's screen. Its only like 85% of the dell screen. Its hooked to a macbook 13. Any suggestions on how to make the display resolution on all dell screen ? I've looked in the dispay settings of the macbook and tried all the res settings but none make it on 100% of the dell screen. Help!

Some of the screen is black. On the sides and up and down. Like when you watch movies and there black on the sides.(example 16:9) And the print of text quality is nothing close to the macbook's. I've put it on 1080p but its not streched all the way.
I haven't used the other one so can't really say, sorry. I have heard that it could be better as it's newer, but you'd probably want to check out other reviews of the u2417 model.
Hi, Great Review. I am a 3d artist and use 3d software packages a lot. I already have a 22in Samsung LED and looking to do a dual setup. Would you recommend this? Graphics card: Nvidia GTX 1060 6GB Amp edition.
Nice! I recently had to replace my Logitech Z5500 because they started randomly turning off while I was using them :/ I'll have some videos about my replacement soon! :)
Jarrod'sTech after taking out jy gpu to clean it from the dust, I must have messed something up, my motherboard doesn't have a HDMI slot, only my gpu does. and I get no signal now, but the gpu still works. I've been trying for hours :(
Hmm that's no good, I'm guessing you have no spare graphics card to test with? I recently had a similar issue where my GPU died, I managed to buy a $20 one from a seller in my town locally and I've been using it ever since. Does your monitor have any inputs that your motherboard does support? If not I suppose your only options are to investigate the card further and see if you perhaps dislodged something, or otherwise see if you can get another graphics card temporarily while you investigate, good luck!
Just got one used for £70. Few observations, the stand is an excellent heavy and high quality unit. The light anti glare screen really is nicer than the previous anti glare screens I have owned. It is bright enough IMO and image quality is decent. I would prefer the 1440p models but they can wait till this breaks first
I've heard that this monitor has an issue where it has been recognized as an HDTV by Nvidia and therefore outputting limited RGB range rather than full, which gives the image a washed-out look. Did you experience anything like that? Since you're reviewing the monitor in 2017, I assume it is the latest revision A03. I wonder if it's any better in that regard.
Dell S2218H vs Dell U2414H vs HP 24es ? Which one should i get? And why? I want better solid quality product , beautiful images quality. But why Dell U2414H is more expensive than others? Thanks :) Also which size is better or perfect for 1080p because of vewino distance? 27 inch, 25 , 24, or 22?
I haven't had any time with the S2218H so I can't say for sure other than comparing them based on the spec sheet, it seems pretty decent though. I'll see if my Dell contacts in Australia have one available, I've got a Dell review video coming tomorrow actually, but it's for the UP2718Q. As for 1080p, personally I think 24 inch is fine for that, but I'd probably look at 1440p for 27 inches or so, then 4K for 32 or above, but this is just personal preference based on my own experience, some people swear by 4K on 24 inches but I cant personally notice a difference unless I sit extremely close, and I already sit quite close as is.
Jarrod'sTech Thank you bro yeah most of people said for 1080p 24 inch is perfect. But if i buy 27 inch 1080p is it good from 1.5 foot or 2 foot for viewing distance? Can i notice blurry or something? How much distance should be?
hi!! maybe you can help us what to do :( we bought a Dell U2414H monitor, but upon setting it up, we had a problem with the display, it say "No DisplayPort Cable", we had tried checking it many times but still the same.. Hope you can help us.. Thanks in advance..
What version of DisplayPort is the computer using? Have you tried changing the DisplayPort version used in the monitor options? I think you can change it between 1.1 and 1.2 which may help.
Hi Jarrod, how could you talk about the small border of the screen and not notice that it's actually not using a few inches of the screen. They're all black and don't go right to the edge. You miss out big time! It's a common problem many mac users report because of the Macbook accepting the Dell as a TV-Monitor. Look it up!
Good to know, thanks. I didn't really consider it as an issue, still seemed thin enough, I believe I was including that black space as part of the bezel as it wasn't screen anyway.
Jarrod'sTech I was just about to buy another IPS display made by HP, model 24er. It looks good but I believe the Dell U2414H is a better choice.
2:07 this is what I don't like in displays. This must be 2 directional ips for sides only and not for up and down direction.
Yeah fair enough
i have just buy DELL U2415, what is the best setting for colour and contrast because its looks to much warm?
Just change it to one that looks good to you, otherwise use a calibration tool.
Wow, quality review man. Subbed!

Nice review! I'm getting this soon for my new MacBook Pro.
Awesome! I did like using it with the MBP in the video!
Jarrod'sTech Hi, some users report a blurry text issue with the Macbook Pro retina and this monitor, is that the case?
It was clear for me, I wonder what resolution they were running it at.

i got a question, If i connect my Asus laptop to this Dell Monitor so the color display will base on the laptop lcd or Dell monitor lcd ?
+David Duong I believe the colours will be based on the settings and calibration performed on the monitor itself

How about mounting slots for those dell speakers?
Any yellow tint to this monitor? Had a number of IPS monitors that had a horrible yellow tint to them.

may i ask if i have a MacBook pro 2017 how can i connect it to U2414h? through mini display port or hdmi?
thanks so much!
The monitor has both of those as input, so you'd just need an adapter to either. A recent laptop I looked at had thunderbolt over USB type-C port like the newer mabcook does which allowed it to connect to mini displayport, so that's probably what you want.
Have you used this monitor for any video/photo editing and if so, how well does it perform hooked up to a Mac?
To be honest I haven't used them for those tasks so I can't really say, the monitors are my partners and she uses them primarily for gaming and are still working well
Thanks for that info! Much appreciated
No problem!
hi, i like this thin bezel monitor, but will this be good for gaming and content creation? tnx
Yeah, I've found it great for both :)
Its pretty good for gaming.
Its got a pretty solid refresh rate and I've been able to use it with CSGO with more success than my other dell monitor. Its responsive and it works well.
Does audio out port works on hdmi.
is it good for editing videos or doing graphic design? i am not a gamer
It's alright for the price, still using it.
@@JarrodsTech what about the screeb quality?? is it good? am really scared as its 5 year old , someone in my country is selling this to me for 90 t0 to 95$ in used , condition is just like new 10/10 no scratch at all
@@JarrodsTech Please reply should i go for it
Is it possible to charge a laptop from this monitor?
Would you recommend this monitor for photo/video editing? Im interested in great color range and accuracy. Thanks so much!
Hey, it looks pretty decent I think, with that said I waited to reply to you because I had a Spyder5 Pro calibrator in the mail which just arrived :) here's what this monitor reported:
96% SRGB
68% NTSC
73% AdobeRGB
Thanks for the info man! Especially considering how old this video is :P
I want to buy this monitor for my nintendo switch only( i haven't pc). Is it a right choice?
Should work ok.
Thank you!!
Awesome. Thanks
No problem!
Thanks mate
I’m thinking of getting this, intel nuc i7, (7th gen) and a Samsung 960 500gb ssd. Is this a good setup?
What will you be using it for?
Stupid question probably, but will this work with MSI GS63VR laptop? Wanting to capitalize on a cyber monday deal :)
+Daniel Hernandez does that laptop have HDMI or display port in? If so should be fine, otherwise worst case you can use adapters
Is this model still good in 2018? What does the no 14 in the model reffer to, its year?
I think it's still pretty good, they're still being used here and no issues 😃 not certain how their model names work, but that could be right! I think that's around the time it came out.
I just bought this model. But I can't put the resolution on all the dell's screen. Its only like 85% of the dell screen. Its hooked to a macbook 13. Any suggestions on how to make the display resolution on all dell screen ? I've looked in the dispay settings of the macbook and tried all the res settings but none make it on 100% of the dell screen. Help!

Not sure what you mean, is some of the screen just black? Or is the macbook not seeing the 1080p resolution so the image is stretched?
Some of the screen is black. On the sides and up and down. Like when you watch movies and there black on the sides.(example 16:9) And the print of text quality is nothing close to the macbook's. I've put it on 1080p but its not streched all the way.
can you post a video on how to connect mac pro to this. Thanks
I sort of talk about that in my daisy chaining video here: ruclips.net/video/leNkQoJpz9M/видео.html
Omg this is the best monitor ive had
Nice!
Does it need to be connected to a CPU to work or ? Sorry for the stupid question LOL
You need to connect it to a computer/laptop, this is just a monitor only.
Oh Alright thx ok @@JarrodsTech
No problem! Happy to help!
1:48 I thought dell ultrasharp Monitors are 4K because it is ”ultrasharp” in the name.
Nah, they have models of all resolutions but they have 99-100% adobe rgb so they are good for work in these programs. Sorry if my english is bad
Why no DVI-D port??????? :(
Not sure 🤔
I have this monitor, but does this monitor have built in speaker?
No I don't believe so, although I think you can connect a 3.5mm speaker/headphones to the monitor and have sound go over HDMI.
u2414 or u2417? (LG AH-IPS or Samsung IPS?)
I haven't used the other one so can't really say, sorry. I have heard that it could be better as it's newer, but you'd probably want to check out other reviews of the u2417 model.
no vga port :(
Yeah pretty uncommon these days in monitors.
Is it use full to convert as TV or not with set box
Should work fine as long as what ever you're connecting has appropriate outputs to connect to it (eg HDMI).
Hi, Great Review. I am a 3d artist and use 3d software packages a lot. I already have a 22in Samsung LED and looking to do a dual setup. Would you recommend this? Graphics card: Nvidia GTX 1060 6GB Amp edition.
Yeah should work quite well for that I think.
Thank you so much.
No problem!
What is the ms response time?
8 ms (gray to gray), nothing amazing for games but I have no issues with that time.
Thanks and yeah it is a beautiful monitor!
is it good for photo editing and graphics design task?
Yeah we use it for that and it's fine.
@@JarrodsTech Thanks.
Nice review. However if 19.12 inches is the height then that is not 459mm but 486mm.
Thanks, yep looks like a small mistake.
What's the difference between this and the Dell S2415H ?
Not too sure to be honest as I haven't used it, I guess I could read the spec sheet and compare but that doesn't really help anyone 😛
Aight thanks for the fast reply man
No worries!
Is the U2413F same as U2414H ?
Are they similar ?
I have no experience with the first one so cannot say.
What model macbook were you using in this video?
Late 2012 MacBook Pro 13"
U2417H vs U2414H ?
Which one is better?
I haven't tested the 17, but my assumption is it's probably better as it's newer, but I do not know
2417
:D I have the same setup as you. A u2414h, a macpro and logitech z500 speakers :D
Nice! I recently had to replace my Logitech Z5500 because they started randomly turning off while I was using them :/ I'll have some videos about my replacement soon! :)
Jarrod'sTech I need your help with something Jarrroddd
What's up?
I would prefer the 1440p models but they can wait till this breaks first
Nice deal, thanks for sharing your experience with it!
I didn't notice anything obviously difference, but I also don't have the proper tools to be able to fully test the colours unfortunately.
Is it easy to connect to an Imac?
Yes
Price?
hi!! maybe you can help us what to do :(
we bought a Dell U2414H monitor, but upon setting it up, we had a problem with the display,
it say "No DisplayPort Cable", we had tried checking it many times but still the same.. Hope you can help us..
Thanks in advance..
What version of DisplayPort is the computer using? Have you tried changing the DisplayPort version used in the monitor options? I think you can change it between 1.1 and 1.2 which may help.
Genalyn Sarmiento-Kamo You are in the wrong channel in the monitor. Switch it to 'minidp'
is it working for concoles 1080 P ??
It takes HDMI which I believe most consoles support, so yeah should be fine.
