    We foster dogs and have 6 rescues of our own. I've been trying to figure out what to feed them in order to keep them healthy.
    I found that my 8 yr old pup has high liver enzymes, and our 15 yr old passed away this year from kidney failure.
    I feed them as much meat and fresh ingredients as I can. And I would love to get rid of the kibble.
    But I haven't found bulk meat within our target budget.
    My 7 yr old, recently adopted, has an allergy and it shows on his skin and as excessive fur shedding, I'm suspecting it's caused by the kibble.

    I think they add flavor to kibble because it's so heavily processed and cooked there's no scent or flavor left. I was reading somewhere that once the kibble is made the last step is spraying it with a appetizing scent/flavor because there's nothing left. Then of course they have to add synthetic vitamins and things.

    . I have a 10 month old Labrador pup
    Shes 65 lbs already
    Shes going to be a big girl. I was feeding her Honest kitchen but im going to switch her over to Nature's Logic and use The Dog Food Project as a topper. I give her meat , fruits and veggies and eggs every day.
    Just feeding her costs around $340 a month. If i feed her only a Species appropriate diet it would cost close the 450.00 or more just to feed her when shes fully grown. Lets not forget insurance and toys😅

    Another informative video. I have two cats but your information applies to them as well. Hill's is a big proponent of corn gluten meal. They insist it is healthy for dogs and cats. Another bad ingredient is carrageenan. Royal Canin puts it in all of their wet pet foods. Advocates of RC say there is no proof carrageenan is carcinogenic, but it has been banned in the EU for a reason. So why risk it, when there are so many other options available.

      I adopted my dog in May and have been giving him a little grass fed ground beef, grass fed liver, raw eggs, and sardines Mixed with Stella and chewy raw coated kibble. I really want to feed raw only. I just feel so confused on how much and exactly what kind of raw meat to give.

    I got chickens this year and finding non-GMO corn for the winter was expensive and very hard to find!!
    Dogs like corn but that doesn’t mean it’s good for them.
    I ALWAYS add home made bone broth to their food.
    They get the best kibble I can find with a supplement by NuVet in the morning and a freeze-dried food from Dr. Marty’s with more supplements like mushrooms, Brussels sprouts, sea minerals, nutritional yeast, and krill oil in the evenings. One evening with the powders and the next with chicken hearts and beef liver. I mix up small packets to make it easier to handle the powder nights since we have four farm dogs.
    So far so good. No one is losing weight nor getting fat. In fact, the 11-year-old came to us a little too thin and had a fatty deposit but she’s now at a good weight and the fatty thing has gone down considerably!! She’s running with the younguns just fine.

    I thank you for all you do in helping pet parents to get the very best information on what to feed their pets. I’ve been feeding my dog fresh food gently cooked, however, I’ve been adding a bit of kibble (N&D Farmina- from your recommended list) but truthfully, my dog eats around the kibble and only finishes the kibble when not enough homemade meat and veggies given. I feel like I’m not doing enough and perhaps not giving my dog the best . His meals may not be balanced and so I feel by giving the kibble maybe he’s getting some of the proper nutirients?. Not sure if a multi vitamin is a good idea to supplement the meat and veggies.

    I laughed when you said what a veterinarian would recommend. Those same rack combinations that say don't use BHA, etc., those vets will also insist that you feed your dog science, diet or Royal Canaan. So take their recommendations with a grain of salt.

    • @RachelFusaro
      @RachelFusaro  9 месяцев назад +1

      I’ve interview dozens of vets & scientists (all live on my RUclips) and NONE recommend science diet/Royal canin etc
      No shame to anyone who feeds or promotes those - we all start somewhere. My personal opinion, based on what I’ve learned from professionals, they aren’t foods I’d give my dogs

      @nogames8982 9 месяцев назад +5

      @@RachelFusaro you interview holistic or Rawfedd promoting vets. That is not the majority of vets in this country unfortunately. The mass majority still recommend those crappy diets. So when the average person goes and talks to their average vet, that's the information I get unfortunately.

    Hi Rachel I currently feed my dog Charlie (shitzu) Carna4 and he has always been picking with kibble but he smells it and walks away.Some days I add a scrabbled egg, or a cooked protein on top without seasoning to entice him and he will nibble on the cook protein. He is 5 years old and my vet said when he's hungry he will eat and that's the response I get. Not sure what else to do. Please help

    I just found out about these "spray on" ingredients. Srsly wtf? Saw it in real life yesterday. It was some treats that said it had omega 3s and beef liver on tbe front. Totally what im looking for so i look at the back. Literally says spray on nutrients in the ingredients. So ridiculous! As someone who is on a disability budget its super hard to find food and treats that meet my standards and if affordable. Gonna check out my local butcher today and see what i can get for cheap. Organ meats and turkey necks is what im looking for. Then all i need to add is a probiotic and ill be happy lol. I learned about the bs of the animal food industry a few years back when looking for food for our cats when they hit their "senior" years. Im hoping these changes in our puppy's diet will help with her pudding poos and with some luck behaviors too.

    Rice can be bad if it’s not from the right source, a lot of rice has high levels of arsenic amongst pesticides. Unless you’ve bought the rice yourself and know exactly where it’s sourced don’t go feeding rice to your pets, rice in the end is a grain and can be highly inflammatory.
