- *This is an edited version of a previous version of this video. The previous version was blocked in 243 countries (a.k.a every country) because I used the reboot’s end credits music at the end, plus large sections of footage here and there. So, I’ve now replaced them with screenshots and different music, so forgive me if that’s not as entertaining.
Since most of you liked my rant about CGI Fireman Sam, I’m now going to rant about the recent Bob the Builder reboot.
Also, I had now idea the original show started 20 years ago, and yet I don’t feel old after finding out that fact.
The audio and video footage belongs to Mattel Creations, Mainframe and DHX Media. All the footage belongs to their respective owners. They were all put in the video for entertainment purposes only.

TheLonelyGoomba Dumbing down kids entertainment is a big problem imo. This video should've touched on it to sound less nitpicky. It's actually an okay video. Just a bit boring and lacking of substance.
It was weird how the new Bob toys went straight into the bargain bin. It seems this was a failure right from the start. The new show has none of the charm of the original. But hey we see that over and over now.

I was watching $15 toys get dumped down to $3. Now if Mattel were hoping Bob The Builder would save their failing company it never happened. Their share price keeps plunging. I'm sure Hasbro will attempt another takeover bid soon.
There’s just 1 problem I’m worried about Hasbro buying Mattel Leo. Would they be a bit more open to criticism and fan content? They’ve had some hard times dealing with negative feedback on their responses to certain fan projects people do for My Little Pony Friendship Is Magic over the last few several years.
They’d have to be willing to treat the Sodor fan base with big respect

I actually thought Ready Steady Build's animation felt "right;" it was something fresh, but still looked similar to the original style and they didn't "cheap out" as a flash animation would.

Lofty, Dizzy and Rolly were my favourite characters in the OG show... Why did this reboot screw them over? Lofty was my favourite character because he was an adorable, loving, paranoid-because-he-never-wanted-to hurt-anyone, gentle giant character. Why on earth did they change that? He was so sweet and understanding and quiet and calm, which was I related to him, because I was the quiet kid too. Taking away characters like these makes quiet children feel more isolated, so they may never come out of their shell because they think they are strange or wrong for being that way. It's detrimental to the audience to remove Lofty as a character in Bob The Builder.
Lofty was probably my favorite male character and honestly
I can relate to him as a kid and even now as an adult because, as someone who is autistic it’s harder for me to talk to people and similarly to Lofty, I’m very shy and it takes me time to warm up to people and seeing a character I can actually relate too. It makes me happy but seeing the reboot butchering lofty makes me sad.
Honestly the older I get the more I love Lofty.
Yes Roley Was a Chill Dude and was very Important and Dizzy was Just Funny and they killed all of it's carisma and Roley was just decoration well no frick it THEY MADE DIZZY A DECORATION TOO!
Lofty's one of the best characters, and as someone who's autistic and socially awkward, I relate to him entirely. 💙
Dizzy's great, too, and I just think it's adorable how she stands on her hind wheels like a dog, and when she has her headphones on, she's almost just like me; getting easily lost in her music until someone snaps her out of it. 🧡
Roley also has a great taste in music, and I can feel myself "a-rockin' and a-rollin' " with him every day, like in his song in Ready, Steady, Build. Also, his friendship with Bird is adorable, and I love how he spins his eyes when he's excited. 💚

I’LL DRINK TO THAT. 🍹 You couldn’t have said it better. Even as a raging extrovert, I turn to Lofty because I have major social anxiety. And I LOVE his high voice, ESPECIALLY his laugh because it’s so sweet, pure and innocent 🥹 he gives me faith that I’m not alone and that everyone is worried about something.
The reboot absolutely washes away any character or personality for modern-show degeneracy, and I award it no points. Thank goodness the abomination of a reboot is considered and confirmed non-canon and the OG crew are canon.

Well for fucks sake. It's not exempt from criticism. Just because kids don't know any better, they don't deserve to have shite media pushed on them. That's a disgusting attitude. As everything slides towards mediocrity because people just don't give a shit anymore or bother to UNDERSTAND anything, it's important to have critique of this nonsense.
Except that this was a poorly made whine-fest and not actual criticism. All he does is compare is look through it with a nostalgic view, and if it ain't the fucking same then he cries.
"Too be fair, you have to have a very high IQ" to understand that CRINGE = CRINGE(and i guess that also popped up in my home page, the one about defining cringe or something)... and Emp Lemon's attitude toward's this video... to make an even higher quality one about the tellietubbies.
There's no need to get angry over a show not getting the criticism it needs, and getting overactively mad over each tiny detail, is what emp lemon shows us, is what most youtuber's do, just to stretch out the video for 10 mins or longer. Emp lemon's also shown that aswell, that a meme doesn't need to be reviewed in 10 minutes, and can be done just as easily in 1 minute, though it might be abit bland because of that.
My favourite child hood show by far, would be Peter Rabbit and... OH OKAY LET'S OVER ANYLISE THAT TOO... and then hate on the film that sony's going to be releasing because we're full of new idea's that "matter".
I did a rant on Disney Channel shows and Nickelodeon sitcoms (in character mind you) and this one jerkass pretty much said that I shouldn't be talking about those shows because they're 'outside of my demographic' or whatever the excuse was. I am sorry but when do you have to be the right demographic to watch or even talk about Disney Channel or Nickelodeon? And yeah it was fucking pointless of them to explain why shows like Hannah Montana get marathon-ed. Yeah, we KNOW Hannah Montana was a huge cash cow for the freaking channel. And their argument about High School Musical as well...i'm sorry, but i'm simply stating that HSM is basically a Poorman's Grease and not only in nature and the fact it's a musical but also that the cast basically called it 'Grease 3' in an interview. I may not be a comedy expert but I know that classic sitcoms actually HAD a live audience, modern sitcoms don't even have those (they probably just have recorded laughter). Also, yeah we know that kids aren't likely to be watching tv anymore anyway...we don't need to be told that.

Original Series: An excellent show that not only is entertaining to watch, it also has colorful animations, excellent characters and great messages and episodes!
Score: 9/10
Project: Build It: Improves everything upon the original, has an even better setting and introduced tons of new and interesting characters (Dodger and Bristle for example)! This one is flawless!
Score: 10/10
Ready, Steady Build: Lost most of its charm and the CGI and new characters moving their mouth kinda took away what was so fun about the first two. Luckily it's still an enjoyable series that kept many of the old characters, like Packer and Scrambler (heck they even kept the rather obscure Splasher and that was great!)

Ya think ready steady build was kinda under appreciated? I mean they definitely tried to replicate the models as much as they could even to the point where they made CGI cardboard cutouts of the trees. They also kept their original voice cast which I was so grateful for. They did still manage to keep Bob the Builder’s identity until the reboot stuff started. Sure it was weird having the mouths move and all that kind of stuff but hey, at the end of the day at least it didn’t turn into a- nonono I cannot spoil it for every bob fan out there. And yes the story was still good. I wish it was the same for Nitrogen Thomas.

I was shocked to learn as a teenager that a kids show about a job mostly associated with the United States was from Britain.
EYTPS A scene from the UK dub of the original show actually played on TV when I was younger and I was a little confused. AND I'M FROM CANADA.

The text “Directed By Sharon Miller” should have been the death nell for this series. It practically is writing the words “Dead On Arrival” on it.
When you know how reboots work, but the people at Mattel don’t, that’s really saying something.
Maybe the reboot would be better if they kept the cartoony art style, kept the same character personalities, had voices that resemble the original, made Roley and Dizzy still be part of the main cast and thought of original stories.

Call me a purist, but in my opinion if you were a small kid growing up anytime from the late 80s to early/mid 2000s, you experienced the peak of children's TV series! Wether it's Thomas The Tank Engine, Fireman Sam, Postman Pat, Pingu, Bob The Builder etc. There's also some good stuff from the 70s (The Clangers, Magic Roundabout, Ivor The Engine, Paddington etc.), but children's TV was still in it's infancy at the time. Either way, now CGI and pure greed of the mega-corporations has slowly killed off almost every good one of them. If I have kids, I'm honestly considering not showing them today's children's TV series. Seriously, I think they would receive a worse education! It's funny you should mention them taking out "working together" in the reboot, because it's actually kind of eerie isn't it? People forget that the aforementioned TV series actually also carried moral messages and values about respect, trust, empathy, honesty, solidarity etc. for children to learn. It wasn't just mindless entertainment, as much fun as they also were of course...

@@SporianSummit Well, you're not wrong, although I'm not sure if they're classified as (short)-films rather than TV series, but of course they're all great (especially the first three)!
I hate modern thomas so much, i saw it on milkshake a few episodes but there are no where near as good as the earlier stuff, because it's gone on such a long time too they keep rebooting it, rather than bringing back characters they just keep making more and more (for like 3 episodes) and never seeing the originals ever again, for like, half the cast barely got any screen time whatsoever, especially the narrow gauge engines.

Personally I feel as if the reason it has so many dislikes is because the review itself was so awful. He basically said the original was a lot better and overanalyzed basically everything.
Though, James has stopped doing reboot suggestions because of how much flak he gets for it (and mainly because he doesn’t want to anymore), and his last reboot review of Noddy is actually decent and doesn’t crap on all of the iterations.
This is all hit Entertainment and Mattel’s fault for all this mess.
It was really only Mattel’s fault because they took over hit entertainment.
I think this reboot would have worked if it had been a reboot of Jim Henson's Construction Site. The art style of the vehicles in Construction Site are similar to the art style of the vehicles in the Bob the Builder reboot. Plus the character Diggs is very similar to 2015 version of Scoop. And it would make more sense to add the new human characters since Construction Site never had any humans.
And maybe even some new machines like a Steamroller as there wasn't on in that show or a Tower Crane and with human's yes they should as there needs to be Human Mechanic's to work on the machines and to refill their fuel tanks and charge Carrie's battery or human building inspectors to inspect the site to see if it's safe to continue building and more obviously Human Builders to work on the site

I grew up with the US dub but when PBS (I think it was them) had made the big switch from American to English, I was very confused like why the red had suddenly sounded like a man instead of a tomboyish girl. Though I had also seen Postman Pat and James the Cat in the original voices. Still, whether you prefer the American dub or the English dub, I think we can all agree that the new CGI is definitely a slap in the face to the original series.

The original Bob the Builder actually concluded in late 2011 not 2012 which makes a four year gap between the original show and the reboot.

I did see a few episodes of the reboot, back when it aired, but when I got back into the original Bob the Builder, I started regretting it. (And by the way, I wasn't watching the original Bob the Builder, back when the reboot started, because in 2010, I had a teaching assistant, and...several students, who told me I was too old for kids' shows, like Thomas & Friends, and so, I followed them and stopped watching kids' shows, until I came across my friends in college who still like the shows, especially Bob the Builder.)

If a reboot is pitched by a *TOY COMPANY* you can probably tell it will be bad.
Jo Cox the transformers shows and comics originated just to sell toys and they are one of the only examples I can think of when it actually worked.

I’m not gonna lie even though I live in the US I actually prefer Muck as a male. It just sounds more original in the original series. Sure I watched the US version when I was young but when I got older I started watching the U.K. version on RUclips back in 2010. And honestly there are some things I like about the U.K. version more than the US Version.
Good for you. when I watch the UK Dub I find Muck's voice sounds a bit Irritated for me.
I prefer the US dub over the UK dub of this series, I like having Muck as a female character instead of a male character.

Also, I find Ready Steady Build decent, but I agree with you about the machines whenever they speak. It’s most noticeable Roley and Travis.
To be fair "Ready, Steady, Build!" could have easily been done in stop-motion.
ThomasSirHandel the reason they used CGI is because it was cheaper and allowed more complex construction projects than stop-motion, which has limits. I still prefer stop-motion though.

Why is it that stop-motion British children's shows always get CGI reboots that redesign the characters and remove all the heart and soul the originals had? Thomas the Tank Engine, Postman Pat, Fireman Sam, and Bob the Builder all had CGI reboots that fail to recapture the spirit of the original, and they always try and stay current and relevant instead of being timeless and charming in a way that continues to appeal to younger generations.

You know... That whole OCD "everything needs to be perfectly flat" personality trait could've worked for something like a grumpy, old-fashioned steam roller, had the original series still been around.
Would've been an interesting contrast with the original Roley's personality.
Actually, now that I think about it, having vintage machinery like that, a steam shovel, a traction engine, a steam lorry/wagon (probably one used to carry stuff like tar in, due to the boilers helping keep the stuff heated, and therefore prevent it from setting prematurely), etc, probably would've had plenty of potential, in regards to characters, plot, material for a special (like one involving a steam fair, for example) and probably something for marketers to make merch out of.

Because the original Bob the builder is actually a Stop-motion animation,so people are too lazy to make this method these days and they prefer to go with 3D instead
to be honest,Stop-notion was expensive to produce. They went to CGI due to it being cheaper than stop motion
I don’t mind them using CGI (The CGI in the first two seasons of the reboot is actually pretty decent, despite going downhill since season 3), it’s the redesigns, character derailments and writing that ruined it.

Well, Mattel is rebooting Thomas soon, and the points that explain why Bob’s reboot sucks is coming on par to the factors that are likely contributing to the failure of Thomas’s reboot.

[Plot synopsis:] Bob and Wendy are hired contractors to review the safety and structural stability of the World Trade Center, and must corroborate with Emergency Services and the survivors after being stranded on the 89th floor. Scoop, Muck, Rolley, and Lofty work down below with the NYFD and NYPD to clear rubble and haul survivors en-masse to evacuation centers and hospitals.
(You can figure out some kind of dramatic finale where Bob sacrifices himself so they can make it down to the impact site, where Wendy is dismayed to find that all exits are blocked off/destroyed and has some kind of heart-wrenching epilogue before the collapse)
But, what if the main 5 talked how they did in the stop motion era with just changing facial expressions?
Jimmy, these videos of you tearing apart bad Kid's TV Reboots are some of the best pieces of criticism on the internet. They're informative, smart, and funny as hell (Seriously, the opening of you singing "Is it a REBOOT?" to the tune of "Monster" by The Automatic had me in stitches). They also deliver the message of "Kids deserve better than to have something they cherished horribly cheapened and degraded for future generations", which I wholeheartedly agree with.

Ben Bell Well, I don’t think I’ll do game reboots like Tomb Raider or Crash Bandicoot etc. because I didn’t really grow up playing video games or play much games at all nowadays like Caddicarus. I MIGHT do one or two movie reboots, though I don’t know where I’m going to download any footage since I can’t download anything from KimCartoon or Watch Movies Online on my IPad.
2. Reboots I like? Well, definitely DuckTales (even though I’ve never watched the original), Transformers Animated, Thunderbirds Are Go, Danger Mouse and MLP (if it counts).
That's okay. There are plenty of game critics out there who grill BAD game reboots, and I think I may do a review of a bad movie reboot when my critic career kicks off. There are also some software online that allows you to burn DVD and Blu-Ray Discs, so you can do a review of a bad movie reboot (I.E. Maleficent).
As for me, my three examples of GOOD reboots are Batman Begins, Casino Royale (The 21st Bond film and the first set in the current continuity) and the Ronald Moore Battlestar Galactica miniseries. Batman Begins for its non-linear storytelling and brilliant moral, Casino Royale for giving James Bond a character and slowly bringing in traditional Bond elements, and Galactica for turning a fun, cheesy Sci-Fi show from the 70s into a dark metaphor for _the war on terror._ And somehow pulling it off. Beautifully.
And I take it you have beef with Thomas & Friends?
And yes, Friendship is Magic is a reboot.
Ben Bell I don’t know what you mean by that, but, I love Thomas the Tank Engine, ever since I was a little nipper (I’m autistic, so of course I loved the show), loved the first 6 seasons, Seasons 7-11 were boring, Season 12 was slightly worse, Seasons 13-16 were a bit more entertaining with the CG animation and a full voice cast, but was still not good at all, Seasons 17-20 were amazing and a massive and well-needed return to glory, Season 21 was still pretty good but the cartoony bouncy animation doesn’t work with the series at all and I’m definitely not looking forward to Season 22. It is a MASSIVE step backwards, after they were doing so damn well with the series!
It feels like they created original characters and disguised them as Bob characters. But 2015 Scoop, Muck and Lofty are pretty much SpongeBob, Patrick and Squidward.
In this reboot's American dub, Lofty sounds like SpongeBob and Muck sounds like Patrick!
