Thanks for a really good video. I just purchased some roselle seeds and I know it's late Spring but I am going to plant them anyway and see what happens. I live in Northern California - so Iihht just get a small harvest, and then will see if I can over-winter the pla t for an earlier harvest next year. So much fun to plan.
This plant is called gongura in telugu(which is an Indian language). The leaves of gogura are used to make gongura curry and pickles. It used just like how people use spinach in basic cooking
Thanks for sharing you're right about how fast Roselle grows started mine in same as your five gallon and there huge now. I would love a grow light to start up my veg seedling this spring we have such a long winter in Utah
Have these growing right now. The kind I have is a deep burgundy. And it is in all the Caribbean, not just Jamaica. There is even a sorrel with white flowers and pods.
So great that I found this video today out of all days ☺️ after finding out that a plant that I received a week ago I just found out it was a Roselle. This is by far my favorite flower, thank you so much and you now have a new subscriber
I like Rosella flowers because of their properties that make me sleep faster, but if I consume them too much, what happens to me is difficulty concentrating, so I drink Rosella flower tea only at nighttime sleep :) Sorry my English is not good because I'm still learning hehe. I am currently still learning how to cultivate these flowers, the condition of the flowers is still growing in the nursery, I plan to plant them in the yard of my house for my evening stock 😁 Thank you, I'm an ordinary person from Indonesia and I like organic farming 🌱
I've seen this this grow light used in several videos. It looks like it works well and looks good too! I have so many seeds & so many squirrels. This would be a huge help in getting things a little more established before the squirrels can get to them. I'd have much more in the ground.😊 I just got seeds for the roselle & am excited to plant after winter!
In zone 9 have started some papayas from seeds in a small green house. Worried that the 40's might kill them. Also, have some neem, moringa's and rainbow eucalyptus seeds I think would benefit from the grow light. Would use it to start Japanese mustard and onions from seeds and try my hand at some micro greens. Thank you!.
Thank you so much for showing the calyx up close to the camera! My plant has some tiny bit of green as well and so I've been confused if that means it's not ready or if its okay to eat still.
I am so in love with this. I want to try .. but not sure if I could make it happen. My big concern about over wintering is the bugs inside the house. What are you thoughts. So do they grow and flower first year to use?
Roselle can be grown as an annual. It;s fast growing during warm season. Start them from seed indoor few weeks before last frost then move outside. They will flower and “fruit” in the same year.
i love roselle tea! thanks for the plant info! i just got some tiny tom tomato seeds and want to grow them aquaponically over the winter. we always need more light!!!
I'm entering the Mars Hydro grow light competition, I'm growing Aleppo peppers in the Northeast US and they are not happy since I've brought them inside for the winter, the Mars Hydro grow light is just the thing to make them perk up until Spring.
Thank you for this video! I have a question. I’m trying to decide where to plant this on my property. I want to put it near my other herbs, but I’ve read this plant gets huge, is that true?Is there a way to keep it a manageable size without it stunting the growth of the blossoms? Or should I find a place in the sun that has a lot of space?
I have a few nepenthes I would like to boost overwinter. Would also like to try growing Roselle in zone 8A using the SP150 to jump start my plants in spring.
We start them from seeds in Feb. By April, we stress the plants by not giving them water to the point of death. After 2 weeks of recoup, you will start to see small buds. Transplant after frost and you will be harvesting roselle throughout the summer until your next frost date. Hudson valley Zone 6b
Your idea of cold and my idea of cold are 2 different things. It was -22 where I am 2 winters ago. I wanted to try this grow light, but found it a little too expensive. I bought the 4 foot fixtures from MoniosL instead, but would like to give this one a try.
I'd love to have the light to start my own flower garden it's something I've always wanted to do ever since I was a little girl but I just can't afford to buy lights I could afford to run them because electricity is included in my rent. I would be super thrilled to have it
Hope I can bring more giveaways to you in the future as this one has already been announced who the winner is. Consider using fluorescent light for growing. It’s more cost effective.
Why are they crumpled? is this frmo fertilzer or variety? I dont like to chew them, they make my teeth feel weird (like its way too acidic). But if you take them with miracle berry they taste like cherry jolly ranchers
I am a first time gardner and it would help me with trying to grow different vegetables. I want to try tomatoes, broccoli, peppers, etc. I just want to get seedlings going so that I can plant them and not have to spend money on store bought transplants.
I would LOVE to try using to use this grow light by entering this giveaway because I want to try growing moringa olifiera as micro greens inside my house 😊 My mom and I have been buying the powder at our local health food store for years, but now we would like to grow our own because it would be so much cheaper. Thank you for this opportunity, Wendi! Happy Thanksgiving everyone 😊💖😊💖
That's awesome, my first time in one of these give away contest. I'm in a colder climate, so that would help all my plants and seedlings. If it works well I'll need to pick up a few more🙃
Love Roselle and very exited to enter give away and also having hard time finding seeds. First year gardener so don't have any grow light set up so I will use it to grow roselle, eggplants & pepper plant during winter. I started because of my 80 yr old mother who started with depression and loves plants to keep her occupied so thank you Wendi for the opportunity. Have a bless day💜
I would love to win! I'm still in my beginners stage of gardening. And still learning many different ways to grow vegestables from my own backyard. There's so much to learn and experiment on seeds and many different plants to grow. I usually grow seeds directly into the soil in my tiny garden in the backyard, but I would love to start indoor earlier before even spring begins this would be so awesome! I would like to grow some roselle too, I hope this will grow here in SC. Thanks for your informative videos. I've learned a lot by watching many of your videos. Happy planting everyone!
I don't know for sure, but I think they are, and have eaten a few. It just seems like a waste since you can get so much more volume to wait to harvest the calyces.
I've heard anywhere between 5-10 days after the flower. I harvest the largest and darkest coloured pods once a week. I think I can leave them longer. I guess it just depends on the conditions it's growing in(sunlight, water, fertilizer, etc)
Thank you thank you thank you that was the best info I was looking for. A Spanish man gave me a plant I didn't what he was talking about eating and making a tea out of. I have a Texas star hyb. It makes a pretty star flower looks like marijuana growing had a start of that plant 15 years .
Hi Wendi, Yes, I'd love to enter your Giveaway! I would use the SP 150 Grow Light to get a head start on my Spring Garden...veggies, flowers and more. Thank you so much for your Giveaway!
Hi Windy Phan!! I am watching your amazing blogging from Northeast of India. Roselle is our favorite veggies. I am from Buddhist community look like you.😀😀 Anyway happy new year 2021. Stay blessed and stay safe. 💓💓💓💓💓💓💓💓🌷🌷🙏
Wow! Watching from the Philippines. Wish i live near you so I can ask for seed of your Roselle. I've learned that we have also here but in limited places😔
Enter me please!!! :) I'm growing carambola (starfruit), pomegranate, lemons, peppers, tomatoes, and attempting to start kiwi vines indoors right now. I have a tiny indoor greenhouse next to a south facing window that supports them now but they definitely need a light upgrade! I live in Michigan in zone 6b, so a lot of my plants stay inside all winter. I'd love to use this light to give them the TLC they need! ❤️
I would absolutely love to enter the giveaway! I’m planning to grow a variety of tropical trees from seed and cuttings that can’t stand the cold. I also I’m looking forward to this coming spring and summer season, planning to grow many fun summer and fall crops that just love growing in grow lights! Love your videos and wishing you good energy!
There's a guy that tried growing them in a 12 inch pot and then found that the plant sent 1/2 inch thick roots through the holes in the pot anchoring it deep into the ground below...
It allowed buds that were left on the plant to continue blooming. 2 calyx were harvested, but plant eventually died. It was pretty cold in the garage, and didn’t put a grow box around it for proper lighting. Don’t sure if these were contributing factors as to why the plant didn’t make it. The plant did lose most of its leaves outdoor by the time buds came, it could also be reaching end of life anyway.
During Christmas in our hometown in Honduras, a drink was made from Sorrele...we called it Vino de Jamaica (jamaican wine).
Thanks for a really good video. I just purchased some roselle seeds and I know it's late Spring but I am going to plant them anyway and see what happens. All hibiscus plants I know can be grown from cuttings. It can also grow in water. I really love hibiscus tea and young leaves on sour soups.
Thanks for sharing you're right about how fast Roselle grows started mine in same as your five gallon and there huge now.
I would love a grow light to start up my veg seedling this spring we have such a long winter in Utah

Do you have a video about how to grow the plant from seeds, what kind of plant food is needed and how to avoid root root for potted plants
I’m glad you showed it can grow in a container
A light to help grow seedlings indoors until Spring warmth arrives. Gets kinda chilly here in NorCal winters. Thanks!
How did you make your plant sprout so many fruit? What type of fertilizer you are using? Mine dropped a lot, only able to harvest a handful only.
I would live to use this grow light to get my seeding started for my spring garden!💚💚💚
I understand they grow well from cuttings. Maybe give it a try. 😊
Thank you so much for showing the calyx up close to the camera! My plant has some tiny bit of green as well and so I've been confused if that means it's not ready or if its okay to eat still.
Hi Wendy! I have started growing plants recently.
Cabbage, Napa cabbage, lemons and bell peppers!
Would love to grow peas, lentils!
I am so in love with this. I want to try .. but not sure if I could make it happen. My big concern about over wintering is the bugs inside the house. What are you thoughts. So do they grow and flower first year to use?

please how did you applied fertilizer and how many days from planting you harvested the calyx
I have a few nepenthes I would like to boost overwinter. Would also like to try growing Roselle in zone 8A using the SP150 to jump start my plants in spring.
Hi
Do they die back every year and you have to plant new seeds or will your plants just return in the spring?
Thank you.
In The Caribbean, Trinidad And Tobago, we boil it and Sweeten it with sugar to taste. I didn't know you can eat the pods
We start them from seeds in Feb. By April, we stress the plants by not giving them water to the point of death. After 2 weeks of recoup, you will start to see small buds. Transplant after frost and you will be harvesting roselle throughout the summer until your next frost date.

I'm a resent subscribe and I love your channel and even though I didn't win u still rock. 🙂
Entering, would love to add to my indoor herb wall, especially since the dark of winter is right around the corner
I could use the light for starting seeds otto improve the rooting of blueberry and sand cherry cuttings. Be Blessed.
Hi Wendi...Are these plants invasive? I see many people growing in pots. ☮️💕
No they are not. I grow them in pots because of lack of ground space, and it's easy to move them to follow the sun.
@@wendiland Thank you 😁☮️💕
Thank you soooo much for this! Been wanting to grow these to make tea with.... finally I have to plants growing in the backyard!

Did the pruning encourage side branches?
I use a strawberry corer to take out the seed pods :)
Any idea why some of my calyces and pods have mold on them? I cut them open within hours of harvesting.
Does your roselle grow as a perennial in zone 10? I’ve heard that in Jamaica it does!
One of the red / cranberry hisbiscus happened to make it through the winter last year! I‘m hoping all plants will this year.
Love Roselle and very exited to enter give away and also having hard time finding seeds. For some reason my seedlings get a bit stunted in their growth in the fall/winter, so I would use the MARS light for that :)
I would love to win! I'm still in my beginners stage of gardening. And still learning many different ways to grow vegestables from my own backyard. So far it seems like the green seed pods, calyces and leaves are edible. But are the flowers edible?
I don't know for sure, but I think they are, and have eaten a few. It just seems like a waste since you can get so much more volume to wait to harvest the calyces.
Use an apple corer to easily and quickly remove the seed pod from the callix.
Is the botanical name for your Roselle possibly Hibiscus Sabdarifa?
What about cuttings in your greenhouse?
I love to get started growing kale and spinach 😍
What do you do with your cactus pads?
I would love to use the grow light inside to help my tropical plants thrive through the winter.
I just bought me a Roselle.Im afraid to put it outside cus have to many spiders and they attack all my plants .Its 36 inches Would like to enter🙏🏻👍🏻
My cabbage plants all got killed by root bugs .. so now I will try and grow them indoors..wish me luck
Great info!! Growing them this spring
How long does it take after flowers bloomed and get calyx?
I've heard anywhere between 5-10 days after the flower. I harvest the largest and darkest coloured pods once a week. I think I can leave them longer. I guess it just depends on the conditions it's growing in(sunlight, water, fertilizer, etc)
I found that in other parts of the world the fruits are more practical use but in most Asian countries the leafs are gold.
I am entering this giveaway. I recently found out that peppers are a perennial and I would definitely start overwintering them using these lights.
I’m growing kale 🥬 and lemon plant downstairs in my man cave. And thanks to you I’m growing my ginger to
What is the seed production process of Roselle?
Did you pruned them mine are too bushy
I suspect that this grow light in conjunction with my heat mats would produce great seedlings.
I would love to have that light to grow tomatoes all winter long in Minnesota
Thank you thank you thank you that was the best info I was looking for. A Spanish man gave me a plant I didn't what he was talking about eating and making a tea out of. I have a Texas star hyb. It makes a pretty star flower looks like marijuana growing had a start of that plant 15 years .

it seems so nice, friend !
I would to enter to win the hydro gro light. I'm interested growing moringa seeds and sugar apple seeds indoors for the winter.
How did it go with the Grow light
It allowed buds that were left on the plant to continue blooming. 2 calyx were harvested, but plant eventually died. It was pretty cold in the garage, and didn’t put a grow box around it for proper lighting. Don’t sure if these were contributing factors as to why the plant didn’t make it. I would like to enter the giveaway and I plan to use it to grow a bottle gourd plant and a tomato plant in my apartment.
Is it still alive because mine died in the winter?
