    First year the gophers killed my Roselles. Second year planted in gopher cages they had a few tiny blooms starting. This year plants thrived but only about 4' tall and zero blooms. Next year I will plant them earlier in the season. I really really want to harvest some.

    I’m so excited too! I don’t know why I didn’t immediately plant them when I got them from y’all. Methinks I was too tired from diabetes and spinal issues. I may try to plant a few seeds now, Zone 9 a-b. I can see how far I can get with them and bring them inside under lights. Pardon my rambling. lol 💜

    Sheila that info on the fiber of the trunk is very interesting! I was looking at the trunks of mine the other day trying to think of a use for the stalk after the frost get the plant. I've watched this video more than once and each time I hear something I don't remember hearing before or had forgot you said in the video! I made a video earlier this month around my homestead and part of it shows my huge Roselle bushes. My trunks have to be at least 2" diameter. This is my second year growing roselle. Today is 9-23-23 and this time last year I had been growing two plants for the first time growing Roselle, I had bought seed from Hoss in 2021 and planted just two in pots then out into the yard. This year I used that same packet of seeds and I grew 6 bushes, I planted them 2' apart in my field garden area next to my okra. They have grown together like one big hedge! I wish the frost didn't kill them because I'd plant them all along my perimeter for a lovely hedge! I'm wondering if I build a small makeshift greenhouse over the top of my roselle I wonder if I can over winter them. I'm in 8b northwest Florida. The frost got my rosell last year. I'm tempted to experiment and dig one of the bushes up this year and plant in big container and bring in the house! I might just do that!

    I’ve always enjoyed Sorrel when visiting my grandparents family in Jamaica around the holidays. I’ve decided to grow some this year in Easley, SC.

      I planted mine from seeds that I dug out of the bottom of a bulk bin at a food store.
      I planted the seeds in Jan, gave them bottom heat, light like starting and warm season transplant. In Feb. I planted them into the soil after covering the mound with black plastic to heat the soil.
      My only issue was here in AZ zone 9 we get high winds with the monsoons.
      I lost 2 of the 3 to wind, the survivor was wind blocked, got lots of flowers, note, they like good soil, lot of moisture, this year I'm planning on planting in a tomatoes cage for support and support the cage with rebar.

    Mine are growing good but i started noticed some redish/yellowing on the leaves. Is that something you experienced? What should i do about it?

    • @gardeningwithhoss
      @gardeningwithhoss  Год назад

      No, have not had that issue. I would fertilize them with some 20-20-20.
