The Acadians were mass deported in the 1700s by Great Britain. The goal was to separate them because they didn't take a side during the French and Indian War. So, they sent them all over the 13 colonies, Britain, and back to France. Eventually, they were allowed to settle where they wanted. A large portion settled in Louisiana and became the Cajun people. They still speak French, but they have a different dialect and a different culture now than the ones who remained in Canada in NB, NS, PEI, and Quebec. Maine also has a large portion in Madawaska and Frenchville, but also in Lewiston/Auburn due to families seeking jobs in the mills in the Industrial Era.
Acadians in Louisiana are some of the friendliest people I’ve ever met
Way nicer than the ones in Maine, they like to fight, but we like to fight back 😂⚜️
Where do the Acadians live today?
New brunswick and Nova Scotia
