What would you add with duplicate stitching?! A lil’ 🐔? A cheeky 🍄? Let me know! 1/7/23 EDIT: Giveaway winner has been notified!!!
I love that you linked the STINKY pattern! I predict that there will be some awesome doppelgangers in the coming Year 🎉
I'd probably do an orange cat, let's be honest. 🤷🏻
Mushroom!! ✨🤩
I wanna add "introvert", so everybody knows why I'm weird and don't talk to them 😅
a pair of dice! a playing card!
Oh my god, I am brand new to duplicate stitching as a concept and now my brain is practically vibrating with THE POSSIBILITIES! I love how Kathleen just dives into crafty projects of all types, it makes me feel more confident about trying new things! (fun fact, Kathleen's ghost painting thrift flip is the reason I felt confident enough to try painting this year and now I love it!) I can't wait for the upcoming style analysis videos and I'm so, so glad I found this amazing, wonderful channel and the community surrounding it in 2023. Here's to another stinky, crafty year with Kathleen!
woooooah never even considered adding a knitted pattern on top as an option, this unlocks a WORLD of possibilities. It’s been great fun seeing your channel grow Kathleen!
((oh and i want to enter ur contest hehe))
Happy New Year! 🥰
PS: If you want to learn how to knit, definitely see if your local yarn store has classes or knit nights! It's way easier to learn with help. Also, the fiber community is wonderful and knitting groups can be such fun lil' social events!
Kathleen fiber art content??? Hell yes I'm loving this so much. I feel like your style would translate so well into knit pieces if you ever try to learn how to knit!
i love my parasocial crafting relationship with kathleen
🤭
I have been knitting for almost 20 years 😮 it's great fun! Intarsia is so pretty. I have made multiple items using the technique, and it really brings pieces so much personality and life! Thanks for giving Intarsia a highlight! I hope you try knitting again. It can be so relaxing and so frustrating, but in the end, it is entirely rewarding. Making something from practically nothing is quite the skill to acquire. Go forth and continue to unlock your new skill tree! It's awesome!
You’re like my beautiful talented big sister that I look up to who’s so wise & fun & Alexa feels like my younger sister who reminds me what it was like to carve out your own path & discover yourself. I love watching you both!
Aw what the heck thank you! 🥹✌🏼happy to be an honorary big sis 💕✨
"this has this classic stockinette stitch" *proceeds to show brioche stitch items* 😮 now I'm on the edge of my seat
Edit: ok it went perfect 👌
Bahaha thanks for your patience with my ignorance 😉💕
I have been knitting for over fifty years and have made many items using the intarsia technique (the first was a sweater with the face of Boy George , back in the 80s, and the most recent a Christmas stocking fir my first grandchild, last year 😊). But, i have never managed to conquer duplicate stitch!! I just cant get the tension right, no matter how many times I try. So I guess I'll just keep doing it the long-winded way😂 Keep going with the knitting - its such a satisfying way to spend your time😊
Boy George sweater?!?!? Hubba hubba…
@@rochelle2758 I still have it😂 Hasn't fitted me for a very long time, but I'd never get rid of it as it was the first piece of knitwear I ever designed from scratch😊
Adding this technique to my 2024 crafty list!
Heck yes Kathleen! I think you'd really get a kick out of Laerke Bagger's book Close Knit, which is a guide to knitting but also really chaotic and fun, for the stinkiest of goblins only.
It took me 3 years to to thrift and find the perfect navy blue sweater (with stockinet stitch) and the perfect bronze color yarn to create a Ravenclaw colors Weasley sweater with my own initial, using the duplicate stitch technique. It was worth the wait.🙃
Kathleen these turned out so amazing!!!! Also your tutorial on how to do it makes me feel like it’s something I can EVEN try 💘💘💘
Also was watching this while putting dishes away and then I heard my name 😭❤️ you’re the best!!!!
Yes - so chuffed you're branching into knitting/even more crafty videos! That hat is so cute :)
Those turned out so good! I'm about to go find a chonky hat and give this a try. I tried to learn to knit a few times, and it never stuck until I learned on a knitting loom. I recommend them if you haven't tried one before. They definitely help you visualize the stitches, and depending on what you're making are just a fast way to knit.
Years ago I was working at a Japanese kindergarten, and this little girl had a hand-knitted vest that had a big pikachu head in the center. She wore it over her uniform top, which was basically a long-sleeved t-shirt. I have wanted a vest like that ever since!
Oh my gosh CUTE! 🥹💕
Yay yay yay new Kathleen
This feels like a natural step from my usual embroidery art and i cant wait to try and customize something in my closet!!! Enter me in that giveaway baby ! 🐎
Not me watching it a week later 😢😢😢 I love your videos they’ve gotten me out of a creative rut. Always stinky 😂❤
THANK YOU for buying the sailboat sweater, i gasped when you first revealed it
🫡 🛥️
My small craft cabinet cannot take the pressure of this new duplicate stitching concept. It creates so many new avenues to let creativity flow!! Thank you, it is always so much fun seeing you and learning all that catches your eye. My horizons are even more broad now 🤗 I would love to be part of the giveaway! Keep up the stinky ❤
Ha,ha,ha, the beige sweater you were looking for? I am wearing it right now, in California, as a PJ, and it was thrifted. Happy new year to you!
Demoniassssss! Wow. Wow. Wow. 😮 Also, the hood came out so freaking great! I'm good to have to try this on a few plain sweaters I have. I am a crocheter so this is sorta in mah wheelhouse 🎉
So excited for this! Will Kathleen learn knitting?! Will Kathleen sip tea? Enquiring minds WANT to know? ✨✌️🤔
I also want to know!!!! 🤔🤔🤔
I love that hat
I want to enter the giveaway yaaay ur so stinky lol
I am officially throwing my hat in the ring, because that hood is amazing!
ugh your videos inspire me SO much now I have to add more things to my 2024 to-do list!!
You’ve already figured out that knitting is just making loops out of loops via your duplicate stitch…the rest is just hand/eye co-ordination ;)
The trick is finding a simple project that speaks to you, yarn you like to feel in your hands, and comfortable needles (if you don’t like straight needles, try circulars!). Yes, I’m a knitting enabler. I also think “learn-to-knit kits” are mostly useless.
I definitely going to give this technique a try your channel always gets me excited about fashion crafting. I also love the super cute hoods with their cozy good vibes
I am so glad you picked the purple color yarn for the hood, what a delicious color combo! I would love to rock it on walks around the neighborhood with my pup.
im so glad we have chonky deep fried energy here this is easily one of my fav stinky spaces on the internet
So happy to chill with Kathleen to welcome in the new year :) 🎉 Thanks, Kathleen, for being a cool human being! I'm so glad that I discovered your channel this year. I get so excited when you upload a new video. Wishing all the good vibes for you in the new year! :D
You should look into surface crochet/crochet chain embroidery! I think it provides a similar look and I find it easier since you're pulling up loops with a crochet hook rather than pulling a needle in and out of the piece.
I just started watching you 2 days ago and have been bingewatching ever since. Thank you for being there. Yes, I'd love to be your twin with a hood!
First time being early enough to enter a slay Kathleen giveaway and what a special one to enter?! Love the colour combos!!!
Omg yesssss Felix! Who *wouldn't* wanna twin with him? 🫰🏻
Edit: Also I wanna enter! I forgot to say that lol.
I love knitting :) I’m knitting a sweater while watching this video with a yarn I am OBSESSED with from the thrift store 🤩
This is a rad idea, I think I may try a beanie or make a sweater into a pillow case and then do the double... so many thoughts. Love the lighting in your space, so peaceful.
Something new to learn in the new year, yay! Thanks Kathleen! 🎉
Knitting clicked for me on my fourth attempt at learning 😂 I love knitting, crocheting, and weaving, but this technique looks so accessible and fun! Very inspiring 💛 Thank you for all your wonderful content 🧶
I would ABSOLUTELY love to have a matching star hood with you Kathleen!
Also, I always love watching a video of yours! You are exactly like a cozy warm ray of sunshine!!
Competition?! Yes please!
Also I love knitting with as many different colours as I can! I’ve made a bee jumper and a Snorkmaiden jumper. I think you’ve inspired me to knit something else when I have the time 😊
I LOVE knitting! Takes lots of patience to learn but if you have nervous hands that need to craft, it’s so worth it. Love what you made!
I really enjoy your content. You've got such a great voice and calming presence. Whenever I need to escape from the darker stuff I get recommended ( I am responsible for my own algorithm) it's so nice to see your videos pop up! ❤
This is another great video! I used to enjoy knittting but have crossed over to crocheting as my main fibre art. It just comes easier to me and gives me more space to freehand the hell out of a project. Your balaclava looks amazing!
Even your yarn color choices were very Kathleen, but you made the best choice! I love your style! I hope 2024 is your best year yet!
I've recently become OBSESSED with knitting and crochet so I definitely think this would be another infinity stone in your gauntlet of crafting skills
Something new to learn in the new year! love the balaclava!
I had no idea about this technique and I've never been interested in knitting (it historically hasn't meshed with my brain well) but this made me want to thrift a sweater and give it a shot!! Happy new year Kathleen, I'm wishing an awesome 2024 with cool adventures in store for you 💖
I can totally connect with unlocking a new skill and then going rogue on what more you can do with it. I’m not particularly a born artist but I love crafting just the same.❤
Tension is my arch nemesis both knitting and spinning.
it seems like witch craft 😿
I don't usually enter giveaways but this quirky hood speaks to me! This was really fun to watch and I had no idea it was possible to customize knitted things like this!!!
I would love the giveaway hood!!! I’ve been meaning to crochet one for my friend but I keep forgetting!!
Gosh this hood is the cutest thing. It’s summertime where I am, but I’m already thinking about layering up for the winter 😍
The hood and jumper came out so well ! I'm kind of biased towards the hood as i've been crocheting a hood myself but lost steam over the last two weeks so seeing you work with fiber has made me a bit more motivated to pick it up again
Stinky sweater army unite. Cannot wait to try this! Also, yes to the balaclava, please and thanks! 🧶
I love this technique!!! I’m going to try it!!! Great alternative to actually knitting which I’ve learned and tried to perfect but just don’t enjoy doing. I like to crochet. Thanks for the inspo and Happy New Year!
Had no idea you knew Alexa, I'm fans of both y'all. You're wearing the purple plaid skirt she thriftmased for you, no? It was so cute how motivated she was to grab you cool things from outside her usual aesthetic ✨️
Yes!! She’s da best 💕 thanks for watching!!!
“Would you like to…ASCEND?” Has set the bar so high for any further squarespace ad reads that I fear I am doomed to disappointment from less stinky channels.
That hat is so cute. I feel like I need to try this so badly!
Yes! This is my first time commenting on a RUclips video before I have even watched it fully ❤! I have Swiss darning on my craft list to try this after seeing Whatlydiamade share her Porky Pig cardigan she made with this method! I am so excited to watch this video by you!!
Also, would love to enter the contest! Thank youuuuu ⭐
I was just thinking about this yesterday :D Excited to see!
I love how everything turned out. I do not know how to knit but now I may just have to try! So many possibilities!
I have tried to knit…for years…and I hadn’t heard of this technique before this video! I am so excited to find some new thrifted pieces and try it out!
Awesome. This may be your coolest video tutorial yet. Definitely trying this!
Aw thanks so much! That means a lot 💕
Perfect cozy Kathleen vid to watch on this, my Covid new years eve 🤧😷
Oh no!! Feel better soon 💕
these are both so FREAKING cute! I say try knitting ( or my personal fave, crochet) again! The chaos you could cause with yarn :O
also, thank you for creating your joyful art this year! I loved watching every new video, and binging all your old ones :P
love u!
I had no idea this kind of stitching was a thing, but it makes perfect sense that you could add additional yarn in the same style to make a beautiful pattern. It's so cool to come to this channel and learn new ways of creating! Also, thank you for opening the giveaway to countries outside of the US, I'd love to be a part of it (if I could be so lucky)!
P.s. your short demo in this video was really clear and well explained, you're a great teacher!
I would LOVE to have a matching hood with you Kathleen!! I have been so curious about duplicate stitching--this video is the perfect inspiration for me to take baby steps to learn to knit (again, lol). Love from me
Obsessed with how these turned out! I have the chonk effect everything has, adds more character! The balaclava tho 🤩
I love this! I'm definitely going to try it. You are an inspiration for this gal who has put art on the back burner for years. I work in research and just became a new mom and my art supplies have all been gathering dust in the basement. My husband gifted me with a stylus and tablet after watching me "ooooo aaahhh" over your dog portraits. So now when the baby is snoozing on my lap I can just reach over and let my creativity run free. I appreciate you!
Oh my gosh you’re kidding me! I know you have so much on your plate… really happy to hear you’re gifting yourself some creative time & really honored I could be part of it 💕💕💕
Ohh i love to get this! Happy new year everybody
This is the first video my family & I watched in the new year. Happy happy Kathleen! 🧡🎉
Also PS, crocheting turned out easier than knitting for my brain. You can also do an easy crochet slip stitch with yarn onto your garments to achieve a similar effect! Just saying.
Yes! I recently learned to crochet and it clicked so much faster 😂 thanks so much for watching - happy new year :)
I'm a hand knitter and would recommend some caution trying this on a tight rib. On a looser rib like the sweater you can see the purls (the little squiggles between the vs) but with a tight rib the purls with accordion up and you won't be able to see them when the fabric is relaxed. The cuffs on sweatshirts are a good example. If it's new you'll only be able to see the knits when you are looking at it but if you stretch it you'll be able to see the purls peeking through. If you duplicate stitch over just the knits and then it stretches when you put the thing on you'll be able to see the purls showing through even if they were hidden while the fabric was relaxed. Alternatively it could be fun to play with a pattern where the purls showing through was intentional.
Also if you have a hard time learning to knit maybe try crochet. I don't know if it's necessarily easier but it does go much faster and sometimes knitting can just be frustrating because it feels like you're not making progress. For reference it can take a week to knit a scarf while you can crochet the same size scarf in an afternoon.
Thank you for this info and the ideas! You’re totally right about the purls showing through 🤔 take care!!!
Id love that star hood! Its so so cute ❤❤!
Give away, yes, please! This hood would be nice to sleep in. My bedroom gets chilly in the winter. Literally sweet dreams 🎉
Definitely learn to knit!! I’ve been knitting on and off for years and once you unlock it (after the frustration of learning ofc) it feels so good! 🥹 I knit continental style though, which I feel like was a little easier to learn
Ooh I’d wear a star hood! Love a yellow/purple combo
I'm a knitter and I watched this while knitting a balaclava. You did so good!!! Honestly, I've never done duplicate stitch on a garment I didn't make, but you just inspired me! I hope you try knitting again!
I love knitting! I first tried to learn when I was 13, but I didn't really catch on until several tries later. It helped when a knitting craze hit my high school in 2005, and I had lots of other beginners to talk to. I'm 33 now and am making most of my clothes by sewing, knitting, and crocheting. I'm going through an 80s and 90s funky intarsia phase myself. Anne Rowena is one of my favorite designers so far.
Watching your videos give instant serotonin😍😍😍 I love all of your thrifting and craft inspo ideas! Thank you!! We love you here in SC!🩷💜🩷💜
Would love one of these hoods :3 your videos are so joyful and fun, thank u!
Happy new year kathleen! 🎸♥️‼️
Happy new year!!! 🎊
that hood is so cute and i would love to have it!
You definitely made the whole experience of working with yarn feel a little less scary. 😅 I can’t wait to try this on an old sweater. ❤
inspiring, iconic, kathleen is the moment once again
(I really wanna try this out, thanks for the inspo!!)
🎊✌🏼🥹
Me me me!!!! I want that hoodie!! Bob sponge + patrick coziness! It is so cute!!
Oh noooooo now you’ve got my brain buzzing! I have many quirky sweater saved to my Pinterest board and now I can make my own with Thrifted fines and sometime? I love the way your stinky sweater turned out. Can’t wait to watch the Alexa video. Happy new year to you and yours.
Hehe sorry for the brain overload! (But I think your cyborg brain can handle it, detective 😉 🤖)
Oh man, I definitely want in on that giveaway! That star pattern is amazing!
i literally love your channel so much, you inspire me. i love fiber arts! keep it up dude xx
You’re the best!! Thank you!
It's mid summer where I am but that jumper is so cute it's got me thinking about what i could possibly find and make in the months before winter arrives
Aaaaahhhhhhh this is a fun idea I will have to try 😮
Also, happy new year!
Happy new year!!! 💕
These both turned out so good! I'm an okay knitter but have never tried the duplicate stitch, so i might give it a go!! Also that hood is to die for, so cute, would love to win it x
Oh man I’m so excited for you to learn to knit! I worked in a yarn store for a while and it was such a great time helping people learn and try stuff! Your local yarn store (I think you are in Columbus, and so you have many options!) is a fantastic resource. Now I’m heading over to Instagram to send you pics of the thrifted cardigan I’ve been embroidering with leftover sock yarn!! Not a content creator but absolutely enthusiastic about helping you learn to knit if you need tips and tricks!
Considering it's ribbing, I would have recommended using wash-away interfacing, drawing a picture or lettering, and then using traditional embroidery.
I’m new to your channel (thanks Alexa)! So happy to be here and fingers crossed for the balaclava 🤞🏼
Hehe thanks so much for being here!
Happy New Year! Love the Stinky sweater! 😻
Happiest of new years!!!
this technique is so cool and also seems doable for me (someone is who kinda made at crafts lol!). love how the sweater and hood turned out!
Oh my gosh, I have so many projects spinning in the air and now I have to add potentially trying duplicate stitching to the mix?! I love this! I want to go thrifting for a sweater right now! Also winning that hood would be pretty cool. 👀
Happy New Year! 😊❤
I literally found your channel TODAY! after I got really sad about Tom Scott taking a hiatus, it was such a little gift! Happy to be here! I wish everyone luck on the giveaway! (Also I crochet so I gotta try this now!)
