I love how Tommy always gives credit to those who came before him. You can tell he really admired and had affection for Doc Watson.
Me: this is some good classical Tommy Emmanuel who I respect a lot
People: cool
Tommy Emmanuel: this is some classic doc Watson who I respected a lot
People: omg you can see how much Tony respect and appreciates his idols what a great guy 🙀🙀😻😻😺😺😺🤧🤧
Me: 😐
Joking around ofc
Absolutely and didn't he pay attention! Wow
It's amazing how just one guy with his guitar can produce such rich music.
Band in a box
Tommy truly is an absolute master of his craft. I mean seriously, he's just unbelievably good.
yeah 60 years of full time guitar playin can do that
@@DC180let’s see you do it big boy
@@graciebee6554 ? What did I do?
He's so humble and that's a huge deal for me, other than his incredible playing.
Best concert I ever saw was in State College ,PA with Tommy. Less than 20 feet away . My friends asked if I picked any pointers up watching him. I said" heck no he was going too fast" !! Keep playing Tommy-GOD BLESS !!
The most skilled guitarist alive today
I remember this song coming on the radio one Saturday morning in the UK. Was totally transfixed and it has literally changed my life. Up to that point guitar music meant the Shadows, knew nothing about fingerpicking. Went down to the local record shop armed with the words Watson and River Blues, fortunately for me the Guy behind the counter was a folkie and managed to order me an LP with the track on it. Still got it .
Nigel Bullock hi there. Maybe you like mine fingerstyle blues arrangement. Its in tommy’s style. ruclips.net/video/0Qipo-lVib4/видео.html
Don't be fooled, it won't be easy to play, the usual Tommy finger acrobatics
Don't you love how everyone is entitled to their opinion? Well, here's mine. While I admire a person's ability to speed shred leads on the guitar (or any other instrument) I think it has it's place and time, and an acoustic guitar song like this isn't it.. Many a great blues player have said; ''when it comes to leads, usually less equals more'' ... When you throw it in there just to show you can, it becomes boastful and takes away from the feel of the song. There's my opinion, like it or not. That being said, I think Tommy is one of the best pickers out there alive today, and my admiration for him is endless.. Keep rockin it, brother.. Cheers
Out of all the great musicians in the world, Tommy is the one that I would choose to meet. He enjoys every second when he is playing and his exuberance is contagious. A very humble guy who loves what he does and always gives credit where due. I love that he is willing to share and encourage everyone who likes music. As for his skill on guitar, well ... that speaks for itself!
Tommy has to be one of the best acoustic players in the world, if not THE best.
Brings back a lot of memories! Doc had a huge influence on my own life, and my music, and Deep River Blues was one of the first tunes I learned from him. I met him in the mid 60s, in Blacksburg, Va, not far from his home stomping grounds. He played at a local coffeehouse, and I was totally mesmerized from the first words he spoke and the first notes he played. He was an amazing man, one of a kind, and I will always consider him a national treasure.
I've been to Merlefest in years past, and it would be a thrill to see Tommy there this year!
I love his and Merle’s funny version of Stacker Lee. Quite a lot funnier than the rock version...Stagger Lee by p.j.proby.
I saw Tommy last night in concert and he played this song. I sat there in awe as he flawlessly played it.
Must have been just before lockdown
@@joelbennett5374 Yep. It was one of his last shows before covid decided to screw everything up. He's an awesome guy and I highly recommend going to a concert of his when things clear up.
Seen him 3 times
@@joelbennett5374 Lucky!
Every single time I listen to him, its as if Im listening to him the first time..
How many times do I have to watch this video to feel content in watching it....too good to be enough.
I don't normally say this sorta thing in messages but Tommy Emmanuel.. "I really love you" A true artist a true gentleman disregarding your personal life.. I love playing your songs and you teach me something new every day.. You have made me a better person... I thank you for that.. !!!
I’m learning this it’s not easy but worth it and it’s the deep river blues bro 😎 god bless doc and is son that tragically got killed in a tractor accident!! Top class tune just sinks into your bones them notes !!! Cheers from Ireland 🇮🇪
Patrimonio dell'umanità....
I'm Blown away by Your timing, Tempo, Fingering, subtlety and brilliance. I'm a Fan. :)
I am singing background harmony with you Mr. Emmanuel as I listen to your voice. You are such an inspiration to me. I played many years as an electric musician then stopped for 10 years. About three years ago I picked my Martin and started playing again, starting in March 2015 I started playing at wineries in and around Sacramento and Lodi, California areas. Thank you sir for the inspiration. Ga Day!
I love Tommy's version of this song, especially like the video he made for it too.
wow. actually something to apsire to. what a breath of fresh air
Just saw you play in Ft Lauderdale and this was my favorite non-original you performed... I love seeing musicians such as yourself carry forward songs like this as well as your own, and to see how much you enjoy sharing your gift when you do is a pleasure in and of itself. We're blessed to have you Tommy!!
Love how Tommy takes an old "standard" from so many years ago and makes it his. What a great musician!
Awesome song! I've been listening to the music of Tommy Emmanuel for several years now, and while I've always loved the music, call me naive, but I didn't know he could sing as well. Awesome singing voice.
One of the greatest guitarists of all times. I want to go to one of his concerts
Fantastic. What is more amazing than Tommy's genius is that 73,281 people have viewed this - and only 2,328 have given it a thumbs up. Don't worry Tommy...idiots in Internet Land are full of those that are envious at your talent. Excellent work! And you can quote me.
Absolutely awesome, Tommy. Thanks for posting it. A better tribute to the great Doc Watson could not be.
Many thanks!
Bravo Tommy
Magnifique.Merci.
Greetings Tommy Emmanuel !!
Delmore Brothers, Alton and Rabon... One of them played a tenor geetar. And... those boys also wrote a great tune like "Blues Stay Away from me", and many more.
Mr. Emmanuel you are absolutely the best. If you ever come to the upstate S. Carolina or somewhere close, me & my family will be there to see you. Thanks for all your years of perfection on the guitar.
Good to see you on Martin... Big Sound!
Go Tommy's Deep River.
Cuánto le debe la guitarra acústica a este hombre. Ya es parte de la historia de este bello instrumento. Gracias Tommy por tus increíbles aportes, cuanto nos haces disfrutar, es realmente impagable.
My Favourite Doc Watson song is Deep River Blues.....Glad to see Tommy respectfully plays it with the up the neck e7 shape and the diminish chord and with some very distinctive TE rhythms and licks ....Yes Sir .....Tommy you are a marvel my friend & U so have influence the world like Doc did...so Cool.Cheers Alberta .....Dave
I absolutely love hearing you sing...your rendition of this classic is phenomenal...so inspiring for a little ole' finger picker like me. Thank you for sharing your wonderful music! Greetings from your loyal fan from the Jersey Shore!

It never ceases to amaze me how guys like Tommy and the great jazz and blues players before him didn't have access to all this info we have right now, just a click away... yet they mastered all that shit. Imagine if Tommy had access to youtube 40+ years ago... damn! God bless you Tommy, and God bless RUclips!!!!
So much skill, so much practice, what a great song, thank you!
Beautiful, Tommy. I've been a Doc Watson fan a long time, even met him and sat in on his jam session once. What a nice man, and one of history's greatest musicians!
Great musician, Great number, great sounding vintage D18, and a bloody great condenser mic really badly positioned for us finger starers! Deep River Blues was written by Eddie Green (who?) and Lucilly Handy( WC's daughter some time in the '20s.
Thanks Tommy, I love the fact that with age comes wisdom , skill and refinement.
Good statement. 10/10
always showing off no matter what. the song is always secondary to his performing
Woooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo !!!
Thank you Mr E
Thank you so
There are, and there has been, many great guitar players, but Tommy is way up there with the best, and he sings, and he writes, and he is a great entertainer, the boy has it all!!!
sooo wonderful !! ... IF I would be a Buddhist I would prefer to become an Emmanuel Guitar in my next life !! ;-) ... SALUT !! CHEERS !!
This channel should have millions of subscribers. What is happening to our youth.
Great classic song and love the ending......icing on the Doc Watson Cake...
Thanks!
My son and I got to see you with Doc Watson at the Bass Hall in Fort Worth, Texas. Wonderful evening!!
super concert au Trianon à Paris !!! reviens vite !!!!
I note with some satisfaction that Tommy is playing an old Martin D 18. While I appreciate Tommy's loyalty to Maton and his patriotism I've always said he would sound better on a vintage Martin and so he does. I used to have one just like it but like a fool sold while intoxicated. I now own a Collings D1 Just as good if not better. Anyway this is Tommy at his greatest. Love it.
Acoustically maybe, but Tommy always said the true test of the guitar is when you plug it in, and the Maton comes up tops
So grateful to have heard this June 11, 2022 CO Springs. Thanks!!
A guitarist could make a career stealing licks from just this one video. You're a legend Tommy!
Tommy, I share your appreciation for the Great Doc Watson. Back in the mid sixties I took my girl friend to see him at a junior college in southern California. The tickets were fifty cents a piece. Needless to say it was the best dollar I've ever spent. I really love the production of you and Jason Isbell doing this song. I love to watch your fingers move so effortlessly and smoothly. I'm sure Doc would love it. Thank you so much for your music.
Should be shooting these in 60fps so I can keep track of Tommy's fingers!
ihave3heads ruclips.net/video/0Qipo-lVib4/видео.html i have 2 hands and a guitar
We need that 16 milliseconds resolution !
Wow wow wow!!!!! I love this song, I love Tommy! Absolutely incredible, talent galore. I could listen to you play all day, thank you!!
Maestro. You are a world treasure. Your passion for this instrument can be felt when you play. Thank you for sharing. May God richly bless you.
I just love the stuff. How could you not like that?
Acoustic guitar master, there isn’t any other one in his class! WOW !!
Some of the very best Tommy Emmanuel I have heard. Fantastic and beautiful. Nice singing too.
This man plays so clean it's amazing!
Tommy. Your talent and legacy is certainly being absorbed and loved by so many. Thank you brother for sharing it all with us.

You are a genius!!!
You are just the best tommy, big influence on me, and as my guitar broke of nowhere all that leaves to me is listen to the best guitar player in the world!

Tommy has the ability to make every song he plays better than the original version.
You are out your mind. Doc's is way better with no disrespect to Tommy's fingers.
Beautifully played!
Si alguien me entiende....MADRE MÍA!!!
Fantastic! I love the little improv licks!
Yo Tommy, I absolutely LOVE your version of this song!!! Your playing is as usual PHENOMINAL!!! It's because of you, I am striving to be a better Guitar Player!!!
Going to watch him in 5 hours.Super excited.
This is the first song I ever heard Doc song too. I was hooked. Glad I found Dic Watson.
Love all your work over the years and for having such a great personality. Thanks for sharing that.
Of course his voice is great...
You are a treasure mr. Emmanuel. Thank you...
Come back to Merlefest!
Haha, I'm a fan of Tommy, but first I was listening to Chet and a little bit of Doc Watson. This was the first song I heard by Doc as well and I just had to learn it, I found that Doc does some pretty interesting work with his thumb. What a fun song, bravo!
that was great. think Tommy enjoys that song much. that's why he's Tommy.
Thanks Tommy, what a blessed gift you are too! Keep on strumming ...
Amazing song, wish I could play it.
+Dw Jones I'll give it a crack man
Search for 'Doc's Guitar Tommy Emmanuel' on Google to find a .pdf file of a tab book with this song in it. The RUclips video of Doc teaching Deep River Blues is from the DVD that accompanies this tab book.
Dude that comment is gold, thank you very much.
hobofuture just practice, you will make it. And enjoy the ride oof learning
It's all here to learn in the video...basic shapes , tough part is the right hand chugg
This is awesome. I never got to see Doc, thought I wanted to. This song was one of my favorites of his. Love your interpretation. It's got more of a groove.
Tommy you are without a doubt the most astonishingly mesmerizing and talented guitarist I think the world has ever known. It's truly an awe-inspiring experience watching and listening to you play and the wide range of sounds and "feeling" you're able to evoke and coax out of a guitar. I write my own material using a keyboard or piano and have since I was a child, and even tho I never learned how to read music or master an instrument it was your music and videos that inspired me to try the guitar. Keep on keepin' on brutha!
Love love love this song. Love Mr. Tommy Emmanuel! I just want to play this song as Tommy style😍🎸🔁🔁🔁all day long!
love this, it was hearing Doc playing Deep River Blues and Windy and Warm that inspired me again...love this Tommy - thank you! The Delmore Brothers recorded it on the Brown's Ferry Blues album as I've Got the Big River Blues... a great album...
TOMMY YOU A BRAVE MUSICIAN TO ELABORATE ON THE HOLY GRAIL THAT IS DOC 'S MUSIC...BUT IT WORKS BEAUTIFULLY OH YES OHH YESSSS!!!
As usual amazing and great voice as well ! Many Thanks Mister Emmanuel .

Just amazing..
What an excellent performance, Tommy, you certainly do the man proud!! :-)
I love this song, and I love Tommy. Hoping I can come to the Merlefest and see him play this year. I first heard this song at a Jim Hurst concert about 4 years back. Do a search for Deep River Blues Jim Hurst at the Grind Cafe to see a video of Jim I recorded there. I love the way Tommy embellishes though. And he does indeed sing this quite well. Thumbs up as always Mr. Emmanuel!
Tommy is living Legend!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Fantastic!!! :)
Hands down the best guitarist to walk on Earth. Ever
Not only does he kill it on the guitar, but the man can sing!
My mind just blows watching you Mr Tommy... 🤯
Fantastic !!
