- Hey everyone,
I wanted to make a video on this Orange Crush CR120, it is an incredibly versatile and responsive amp. And on top of all that, it's incredibly affordable!
Thanks for watching!
I think either you guitar wasn't tuned or your intonation is out.
I have de 120 watt 2x12 combo version and its amazing, i put a 6 band eq pedal at the effects loop to brighten up everything, an OD infront of it as well the EVH MXR 5150 Overdrive pedal.
Please tune your guitar before doing the demo
The sound on the recording of this video does not do justice to how awesome this head is. Maybe how you’re miking it? Because it’s 10x better in real life.
Sounds like the mic's abit off axis maybe, but I think it's showing pretty accurately how the amp sounds.

My thoughts exactly. I own this amp and it's 1000 times tighter and better sounding in real life.
I have one at home and it rips, I run it through my orange 4x12
Yeah, they sound killer. I may have to purchase one now 😔
Alien.medicine 55 hey do you know if i can use a 1x12
I've noticed a lot of people saying this demo doesn't do justice to the cr120. Ive watched a ton of videos on the cr120 because I'm considering buying it. This is my second favourite demo of it. Does the amp not actually sound like this? Because I really like his tone. Not so much the distortion but cleans are beautiful. Is the distortion better irl?
It is a great amp - but on cleaner settings have you noticed it making a clipping sound when using higher output pickups? I noticed it on your video.
I have this amp and it isn't clipping
I did notice when I was playing. It was very slight and the recording of the cabinet really over exaggerated it. I think it's due to the settings possibly, gain was at noon I believe. I use that guitar all the time recording direct, and I never clip on the DI track. 🤷🏼♂️

I have heard many and have played many cr120's. I have a 4x12 loaded with celestino v30's. Believe when I tell you that guitar ruined this review. Both channels did not sound good and I do not believe this amp is bad as it will be a back up for my tube amp very shortly. That guitar needs to be setup correctly. I'm not one to bash but if someone is trying to base a purchase off of this video then the results they are hearing are not the best representation and some might pass up the amazing features and benefits of this affordable amp.
i think your input signal from recording microphone is peaking (clipping)...
I was wondering if that was clipping or some crappy grit on the clean channel
@@bloodfromastone i own one of these. the clean on mine also has a weird clip to it like he is getting here, but i dialed most of it out. the dirt channel cleans up surprisingly well, and i treat it more like a single channel amp and use my volume knob for cleaner passages
Is this OK for faster, hardcore punk stuff? Think Converge, that kind of riffage. Would this keep up with a decent distortion pedal in front?
Mine arrives tomorrow!! Sqeee!!!
On the topic of solid states not being loud: Try out a Fender M80. I have a 300 watt combo that can overpower most tube amps. And I do mean most. I can’t turn it past 4 in my house on the gain channel without disturbing the neighbors.
alelx jines Yeah, there are a lot of solid state amps from the 90’s and early 00’s that have killer tone. Not a big fan of the modeling amps, seems like all the beefier solid states these days are. My bandmate has a Peavy 6505+ head on a 4x12 and my little 1x12 solid state absolutely destroys it in terms of sheer loudness. And the best part is my tone stays the same no matter what volume I play at. Plus the 6505 has a terrible clean tone, but mine has the classic sparkly Fender clean.
alelx jines Yeah, same with my friends 6505. It’s really hard to get the tone just right. My fender and a ts9 clone blows it out of the water tonally and in terms of volume. I run it through a 2x12
I'm trying to get a decent metal tone out of the dirty channel what settings do you prefer
Gain 100 percent
Bass 100 percent
Treble 70 percent
Treble: 5 o clock
Middle: 11 o clock
Bass: 1 o clock
Gain: (your taste) mine are at max
Volume : (taste) mine is at 1 o clock
just run a tube screamer or sd-1 in front of it and you'll figure out the rest
Love the dirty chanel *-*
Your guitar was a bit out of tune xD but cool vid
Dude sounds like he's about ironically stab me at any moment
this guy will never have his own channel
I have just got one second hand. Primarily I will use it as a pedal platform the second Chanel if used would be low gain with a pedal - it’s not my tone and doubts like a fuzz pedal.
That guitar was way out of tune in this demo.
Tune your guitar
Why hello Will Wheaton's heavy metal brother!
I have one and it is terrible for high gain or atleast for me it is. im using it with a orange ppc 2x12 and i just really want to sell it
Its not meant to be a raging pantera, metallica, or slayer style amp. It's 60s-70s classic rock, stoner metal, and even hot rod'd country sounds. I have one its great. I Still say it doesn't shine compared to a tube orange. The gear gods guy video fooled a lot of people thinking it could be used for groove- heavy metal. Tube thunderverb or even a rockerverb can do high gain metal. If that's not enough boost it . if That's not enough i wouldnt know what to tell you, besides orange isn't your thing.
Use some pedals. Orange sounds great with booster pedals
tune you guitar!!
Hmmm sounds real.muddy
89 db is not loud 😂. I regularly play my "just a solid state amp" at 115 db. And it's volume is only at noon 🤷🏻
Have fun with that tinnitus bro
Too much talkin, very weak presentation overall..
Tune your guitar & don't run the Bass almost to 10.... Guitar is a midrange instrument! Seems you don't know much about getting a good tone to blend with a band.... Your tone works for the jamming in the bedroom sound.
I was rather disappointed with this head. I've heard all the hype for years, and have heard the sound of them for years. But buying one, plugging it in side by side with my Marshall and my mesa, this amp does not deliver tube quality tone (hense the price), and had no volume in a live setting. I play in doom band, the land where orange rules. But I was very disappointed with how cheap it sounds next to a jvm and a dual rec. It's a beginners amp at best. I wouldn't use it for a live gig ever. Also I've read they have caught on fire.... So.
Josh Freeman It’s not just about volume when it comes to playing with a band. You need tweak the EQ to cut through the drums and bass. Live, this is great. Just watch Dave Simpson live. What ever sounds off is probably not the amp’s fault.
Dude ... I've been playing for 20 years and rolling around with various groups for 9 of those years. The simple two band eq on the clean channel wasn't that confusing. I run a mesa dual rec and a Marshall jvm into a big shot aby pedal into a multifunction delay through a fuzzrocious demon into a 535q crybaby. through 2 oversized 4x12 mesa cabs. With a fucking custom shop v. When I switched between all three heads back and forth an over again specifically for tone testing, the Marshall and the mesa wrecked it. All I'm saying. It worked, you could use it if you had to. But I wouldn't pick it out of a line up. Not my first or even fifth choice.
And doesn't Dave Simpson mostly play though Marshalls??? ......
"this amp does not deliver tube quality tone"
I get told by my musician friends, who play through exclusively Sunn tube amps in their doom band, that it is most tube-like solid state head they've ever heard. I've even let them play through my setup a few times and some of are considering buying on to mess with.
"No volume in a live setting"
That's flatout bullshit, hahaha. During sets, I was told to turn it down and I was only halfway up on the master volume.
" It's a beginners amp at best"
I've been playing guitar for 13 years now, and I traded in a Laney LC30 amp which is all tube, for the CR120H. This isn't like a Line 6 Spider or a Boss Katana, dude.
"I've read they have caught on fire"
On what planet? Granted, my first CR120 blew something but nothing caught fire. After an RMA, I've had no problems since. I won't give it any grief because it happens with amps sometimes.
it was just unsatisfying. Sounded too farty and digital to me. I want crisp warm tube feel. Doesn't hit you in your feet or your guts like a tube amp does. I literally returned it after a week. When you crank it, it just made fart noises. I want to actually hear note articulation without running 10 eq pedals and an arrow pedal and a preamp and a radial booster. We had to add so much crap in the signal to get it not to fart. We play some songs in drop a#, with a 60g bottom string. The Orange can't take it. The frequency was too hardcore and it cut out all mids and highs and just made a huge bottom string fart noise. Whereas the tubes take it in stride a push through sparkling high end and mids, and I can still actually use my bass eq knob. I'm sorry if you disagree, but there is a reason none of the greats use solid state amps. You think Matt pike is trading his rockerverbs for a digital clone cr120??? Never in a million years. Its vinyl vs CDs my man. I'll never agree with you or anyone. My ears are tuned to tube amps. when you plug in a cheap digital copy, I can hear a difference immediately. Analog v digital, carb v fuel inj, cassette tape v vinyl. Squire v fender, epiphone vs Gibson, cr120 v rockerverb. The winners are obvious brother. Come over to the tube side, you'll never go back.
