It isn’t the flag or the banner that’s the problem. It’s the emotion and the motivation behind the display. Every church I ever served that contended and bickered over displaying the American flag prominently before the congregation had deeply embedded histories of nationalist political agendas within the congregation; most of which were and still are rooted in Bible Belt “lost cause” idolatry. Personally, I recommend “no flags” inside the sanctuary or congregational worship space. Just my opinion, based on experience. 🕊️
Having lived in Illinois for as long as I have, I am now concerned for the other 49 states that are so strange that Illinois seems normal! The only thing nornal in my state is the city Normal.
