Create a Hypnotic Spiral and Animate It in Photoshop!

  • In this tutorial, we'll check out a clever technique for creating a perfect spiral in Photoshop. Then we'll apply it as a retro-style optical illusion and create a looping animated graphic! This project makes a nice introduction animation - in fact, the "Video Timeline" in Photoshop uses many of the same principles as Adobe After Effects. Thanks for watching!

    A game I like to play is to try and guess how long it takes for Brady to use Hard Mix (spoiler: 4 minutes). Great video though, that polar coordinate trick to make the spiral was most impressive.

    I'm always blown away by how much effort you put into these tutorials, that sidebar for example. Not to mention it's a treasure trove of amazing tips and tricks. It's all around fantastic, you really push the limits of what can be done with Photoshop's varied, even if wonky, tools. It's also relatable to see you struggle with Photoshop (Adobe software in general) finding new and creative ways to screw something up.

    Thank-you Brady for a fantastic tutorial. You obviously have put in a lot thought and time into making this tutorial bite size and easy to understand. I appreciate that you took the time to point out potential problems like the spiral space at the top and how to go about resolving the issue. A person doesn't realize how important those specific numbers are until the project doesn't work. So, thank-you.
    I have been lookin for different ways on how to apply the difference blend mode. So, for you to show a practical usage was awesome. :)

    At 10:57 you can just drag the right or left gray sliders just above the Timeline layers to lengthen or shorten the section of animation.

    Acutally you don't need to resize every layer to fit the 2 seconds. You can just crop all the layers using sliding the endpoints on top of your timeline, you'd only need to resize every layer individually if you had to stretch them to a longer period.
    I use it a lot to make some animations and small video adjustments since I don't know video a lot about editing tools but work with photoshop all day long.
    I used to have also have this problem with rendering a couple years ago, but it updated automatically and solved this issue for me.

    • @Texturelabs
      @Texturelabs  3 года назад +1

      Ah great! So the render will be limited to the start and endpoint sliders? It was hard to know whether that would work when I've got this render problem! But good to know that might fix with an update.

    • @cinzabreu
      @cinzabreu 3 года назад

      @@Texturelabs Yes render is limited to those endpoints
      Great tutorials, by the way. I would never have learned to use the hard mix blending mode as threshold if it weren't for your videos. It is a versatile tool to use. :)

  • @juanaq

    man, i think that i'll never have to use this effect, but the way you get to it makes me want to try it, just for fun.
    to clip the animation at a precise point, i usually place the playhead where i want it, click the "split at playhead" command, and delete all the unnecessary clips. same results, just other way to do it.

    • @Texturelabs
      @Texturelabs  3 года назад +1

    I'm having trouble with "Video Timeline" - it appears that this is not available in the newest versions of Photoshop when running on an M1 chip. You will need to select the application in Finder, select "Get info" and click to "open in Rosetta" to have it as an option until Adobe rectifies the omission. It works.
