The thing about immortality is that it's more like a battery. You have to recharge it.
The Taoist way makes you live longer, not die of old age, but you can still die through outside forces.
The people in heaven need to consume the heavenly wine or peaches to stay immortal every couple of hundred years.
The reason why Sun Wukong survived the boiler was becouse inside he stayed away from the 5 fires in each corner. But the smoke from the heavenly fire still got in his eyes and now he can see through demons illusions. (I'm spoilering this because Red never explained this fact in all the upcoming videos)

This is 2 years later, but the “see through illusion” part is a common mistake. The original text described it as the experience in the boiler gave Wukong “Fiery eyes and golden pupils”, which many people thought to be a superpower. But the original text also made clear that it’s just an (awesome looking) illness caused by the constant smoking, and it actually made him weak against fire and smoke attacks (relatively)
On another hand, Wukong is indeed able to see through illusions, but he always can do that and it has nothing to do with the fiery eyes he got from the boiler. However, because the eyes looks awesome, the writer always depict the move as “he watched through the illusion with his fiery eyes”, and that’s where the misunderstanding come from.

Sun Wukong was the main focus of most of the first 1/3 or the book, then a party member of the main character for the rest.
