The fact is Dark Phoenix isn't a story you can do justice to in one film, especially when you haven't built up Jean Grey as a main character prior to it. Her relationships with her teacher and teammates are of utmost importance. He status as a great hero also needs to be established. She got the Phoenix powers on what she considered a suicide mission that would save the lives of her friends. She used those powers to SAVE THE UNIVERSE!!! She went toe to toe with a former Herald of Galactus. Then, outsiders manipulated her mind when she was isolated after believing most of the team was killed on a separate mission. It's why I hate that people treat it as a simple "power corrupts" story. It's not really that. In fact, she was doing great with the powers. It was outsiders messing her to control those powers that really caused the problem. That's why it's such a tragedy.
You didn’t know this was planned as a two-parter? It says so on its Wikipedia page with sources cited. And the power started to slowly corrupt Jean a few issues after she became Phoenix.

So get this (it will be long and seemingly unrelated story to this review but bear with me): Since The Flash 6x12 I'm obsessed with Elongated Man and Sue Dearbon content (they're actually the first pairing I'm actually shipping in a reaaaaaaally long time). Some time ago I've stumbled on tumblr on a list of comics one should read if they like the future Mr. and Mrs. Dibny and one of the comics was Justice League of America #194, in which the six memebers of Justic League get attacked by figures from Tarot cards that influance them some way (The Hermit makes Superman an old man, the Hangman makes Flash think about his recent loss, the Priestess makes Green Lantern obsessed with her etc.). In the final confrontation with the bad guy who animated the Tarot figures, the guy releases The Death on Justice League. The Death is, of course, the end that can't be avoided, however, Superman says: "Death may be inevitable but fear of death is not! We defy you! I defy you! You may win in the end but I will not be conquered!" And the final battle between The End and ERod and Una, reminded me of that scene. You were like Supermen who were telling The End: "We defy you!"
21:33 He's referring to Season four that came after the movie "So The Drama" (The intended end for the show, hence the "The End" school sign.), not that God-Forsaken Live-action Remake. I hope!
My personal headcanon explanation for all the continuity contradictions in the franchise is Deadpool constantly screwing with the timestream (as shown in the post-credits scene of "Deadpool 2")
you know I hope that some how this causes a slip timeline and the Good Una remembers... or that she was able to keep some part of herself. she is really good and fun...
@@jfsredhead Maybe, but still, doesn't mean it won't be a fun review. Besides, superheroes used to be seen as to silly to take seriously. If you make a movie, put in effort and make it good.
Great end to the season Erod, it was worth the wait and I hope things get easier for you after the events of last week. You take a well deserved break and I'm really excited for the Honest Review season. Bring on the Infinity War Journals.
So Jean is severely troubled and overpowered and they choose to confront her as a large group IN THEI BATTLE SUITS!? Great way to defuse a sensitive emotional situation, Charles. Maybe sending one or two of her closest friends to talk to her LIKE A FRIEND WANTING TO HELP might have worked a little better.
The other thing about The Dark Phoenix Saga is how it really changed so much from that point on. It's the storyline that really changed Wolverine from the jerkass teammate to popular badass. He gets sent down into the sewers under the Hellfire Club by the guy who manipulates gravity and fights all the way back to the top floor, alone. It took Scott Summers off the team for a bit, allowing Storm to step up as the field leader. It led into the storyline where Kitty Pryde joined the team. Due to the way Chris Claremont was writing the X-Men at the time, it's hard to isolate those stories into a single movie. He'd start subplots years in advance and slowly bring them along until they became the main plot. Then the repercussions would from new subplots of their own. Admittedly, he eventually got to the point where he had too many balls in the air and some things never panned out or were quickly disposed (e.g. Nimrod), but during this period he was working perfectly.
Man I’ve missed you! You’re videos are the best! Also, I realized this earlier and figured you might appreciate it. So check this out! Monty Python and the Flying Circus aired World Forum Communist Quiz. Dec 15, 1970. In the skit (that I saw for the first time today) Mao, the leader of the Communist Chinese government, knew the Lerry Lee Lewis song “Great Balls Of Fire” (57). In 1986, a movie came out called Top Gun where American Jet Fighter Pilots trained and fought a “nameless enemy” black jets, red star on the plane.... China is a good guess. In this movie, Jerry Lee Lewis’ song “GREAT BALLS OF FIRE” is played a number of times in the film, even by Goose on the piano. Fast Forward to 2011. The Chinese show footage of their J-10 Fighter out maneuvering and blowing up other airplanes. EXCEPT. The planes blowing up were clips of the enemy jets in TOP GUN cut in. A movie with “Great Balls Of Fire” in it where America blew up Not China aircraft... and that got cut into a propaganda Chinese film where they showed the superior power of their fighter jets... by blowing themselves up!
Finale X-Men movie? There is an upcoming Deadpool/Wolverine movie that was confirmed before this movie even came out and Marvel is apparently developing another X-Men project with the original cast.

@@agentofchaos7456 But if it is so faithful to the source material then why did the Dark Phoenix sucked ass? I mean shouldn't E-Rod rejected of busting this movie just because it didn't ruin the Original comic book story?
@@penny1545 A lot of X-fans overlook the parallels due to them not being aware that this was planned as a two parter. It wasn’t trying to adapt a whole saga into a single movie.
Except for the last two minutes. The series ended with Erik and Charles finally moving in together.
4:27 WHERE"S THE MERK WITH THE MOUTH? She could've got a little optimistic about the Deadpool films. BTW, Those films and Logan are one of the best superhero films i've ever seen.
So get this (it will be long and seemingly unrelated story to this review but bear with me):
Since The Flash 6x12 I'm obsessed with Elongated Man and Sue Dearbon content (they're actually the first pairing I'm actually shipping in a reaaaaaaally long time). I defy you! You may win in the end but I will not be conquered!"
And the final battle between The End and ERod and Una, reminded me of that scene. You were like Supermen who were telling The End: "We defy you!"
Erod, leave The Wolverine alone.
21:33 He's referring to Season four that came after the movie "So The Drama" (The intended end for the show, hence the "The End" school sign.), not that God-Forsaken Live-action Remake. I hope!
Loved the umbrella academy dance
My personal headcanon explanation for all the continuity contradictions in the franchise is Deadpool constantly screwing with the timestream (as shown in the post-credits scene of "Deadpool 2")
you know I hope that some how this causes a slip timeline and the Good Una remembers... or that she was able to keep some part of herself. she is really good and fun...
Is a film based on pre school show really worth getting mad at
Huh? It was based on a comic.
@@christiancrusader9374 I'm referring to what it said in the credits his next review is
@@jfsredhead oh. Sorry. But still, if he didn't like the movie, he can say so.
@@christiancrusader9374 yeah just seems to me unusual choice
@@jfsredhead Maybe, but still, doesn't mean it won't be a fun review. Besides, superheroes used to be seen as to silly to take seriously. If you make a movie, put in effort and make it good.
Keep kicking ass, ERod!!!
nssfleahedgehog Agree
Great end to the season Erod, it was worth the wait and I hope things get easier for you after the events of last week. You take a well deserved break and I'm really excited for the Honest Review season. Bring on the Infinity War Journals.
There have been 10 Xmen movies? I've seen them all yet I can remember almost nothing about most of them.
Only few were good.
Love the episode but please change the voice of the end i can't understand it
So Jean is severely troubled and overpowered and they choose to confront her as a large group IN THEI BATTLE SUITS!?
I’m so happy your doing video on RUclips

I wish I could meet you and linkara
nice the powerglove cover of x-men, i love that cover!
Me to I love the power glove .......its so bad
I’ll be honest, the one scene I like is Erik and Charles moving in together. That’s how the series ended.
so what was the effect you needed to beg fans for money to pay for
I love this. I hope this self doubt is not true and you continue the show.
Finale X-Men movie? There is an upcoming Deadpool/Wolverine movie that was confirmed before this movie even came out and Marvel is apparently developing another X-Men project with the original cast.
Where can I find the channels of the youtubers in this video
Ok I know: linkara, Hagan, and filmbrain
Can I get a link to the others
the future looks bright
day of the doctor best episode of matt smith season and he is the best doctor at the end if that was the reference
I wonder what movie is next.
Review was great - movie was nasty. And yeah, this episode just proved why you're one of my favorites. Love the Umbrella Academy bit.
It’s actually far closer to the comic than people give it credit for.
Love the show erod! - keep up the good eork
Let me show you the real Erod.

Beyond awesome and beyond epic.
The best version of the Dark Phoenix Fox did was their first attempt. The cameo sequence was worth it.
True. As it is now Captain Marvel is better Phoenix then Fox'es Phoenix.
Not according to Chris Claremont, the guy who wrote Dark Phoenix.
@@TheRezro There is a video on RUclips of him dissing X3 and saying DP was better. Search “Chris Claremont talks Dark Phoenix 2019” happens very early in the video.
@@agentofchaos7456 Ok, he actually did edit that post. So no future comment here.
@@agentofchaos7456 Well I'm a fan, E. Rod is an awesome critic. I am open to a suggestion of a better version, but the live action attempts pale in comparison to the first cartoon's version. If Chris Claremont thinks Dark Phoenix is better, well he doesn't have my money. Because I didn't buy a ticket or a copy of the movie.
Also really dig the Umbrella refrance with all my favourite reviewers
Erod did u see the scooby doo crossover with the Batman brave and the bold???? I know ur a fan of the brave in the bold
At least linkara got a third outfit from his next 10 years since 2018
love the umbrella academy reference
