Lydia accepted marrying Betelgeuse, not because she wanted it, but to save them, because they were dying.
Fun fact, Betelgeuse is a star in the constellation of Orion, originally derived from the Arabic from "giant's shoulder", with time it has been used to mean "armpit". which fits Betelgeuse's personality very well.

In 1970 the Marshall Football team were on their way back home from a game when their plane crashed killing all thirty-seven Marshall football players on aboard the plane, along with the team’s coach, its doctors, the university athletic director and 25 team boosters-some of Huntington, West Virginia’s most prominent citizens-who had traveled to North Carolina to cheer on the Thundering Herd. I think that is where the reference comes from.

If you liked this, you'll probably like most other Tim Burton movies. He has a very well defined personal 'gothic heightened reality' aesthetic. Edward Scissorhands is another big one from this era. Also his two Batman movies are quite fun takes on the character and kickstarted late 80s/early 90s superhero boom.

What I find most interesting about this, is when they first tried to get the Deetzes out of their home, they were trying too hard. They already knew they could interact with their environment, so imagine if chairs started moving by themselves, or during dinner plates and glasses were suddenly flung off the table, or random doors opened and closed, lights turned on and off by themselves, etc. They didn't have to go through such an elaborate plan of being"seen" as much as making their presence known.

For the dead to coexist with the living, and beetleguese can take it a step further , he can completely leave the afterlife if he gets married!😮😮😮 Tim Burton films all should be watched. The guy's stuff is always totally original! He got his start as a Disney animator, but after a few years, fired from them because his work was considered way too far out there! But his most magical heartfelt....that I don't think u can get through, Big Fish.😭. Mom is from Schitts Creek, and home alone mom! Keaton did some great movies before this, Mr Mom, Johnny Dangerously, Gung Ho, and one of the funniest movies ever, Nightshift! In this movie, he practically ad-libbed everything! He also did an extremely touching movie about a man dying, so he videotapes everything so his kids have it. I don't remember the name but his wife was Nicole Kidman, in it!

Beetlejuice, Michael Keaton, starred as Tim Burton's Batman, as Mr. Mom, as Bird Man, and in Pacific Heights. Th judgmental house guest was played by Dick Cavett, who played himself in Forrest Gump.
GREAT musicals: The Sound of Music, Mary Poppins, Fiddler on the Roof, Grease, Yentl, La La Land, Moulin Rouge, and Chicago. Maybe also Funny Girl and Hello, Dolly!

    Glad you liked it. 👍
One of the questions you asked was, how was the special effects done in those days.
Answer: A combination or best choice of, claymation, puppeteering, and/or blue screen.
These techniques were eventually put prices and now overshadowed by the current forms of cgi.
    wonk wonk 😁

In the 70's there was a plane crash that killed an entire college football team from the University of Marshall here in the states.
If you want to know more about it then I suggest "We Are Marshall".
Also it seems like you got a little thing for Winona Ryder....In no particular order..."Reality Bites", "Heathers", "Welcome Home Roxy Charmicheal" are a couple few you should check out.

This Beetlejuice (1988) role of Michael Keaton as "Betelgeuse" was what caused a question of whether or not he would be a good "Batman" (1989), also Michael Keaton was a initially comedic actor in films such as ; Night Shift (1982), Mr Mom (1983), Johnny Dangerously (1984), Gung HO (1986), Multiplicity (1996)

Don't forget he answered that question when in between Beetlejuice and Batman, he did the movie Clean and Sober which was his first serious role and he did a terrific job on it.
And as for his comedic roles, you forgot about The Dream Team (1989).

as someone that also strongly dislikes musicals, two musicals i would recommend are:
    the rocky horror picture show
into the woods (original stage play from 1987, not the 2014 version, though its not bad either)
its almost impossible not to like these ones.

I think most Tim Burton movies would be ideal for the Halloween season- Nightmare Before Christmas, Corpse Bride, Frankenweenie, Sleepy Hollow, Sweeney Todd, Dark Shadows.
