    Actually for many Psychologists the Mortitia-Gomez relationship is one of the best representation of how a relationship should be, as they and their family are everything for each other and they keep showing to them with all their passion and love and that's how they keep the spark alive. And even on RUclips you might find some interesting videos about that, specially since you are studying Psychology.

      Absentee fathers on the one hand, maybe because the financial situation necessitates, or because they are content with not being there.
      On the other hand familys of the upper crust, where both parents work because they draw more self-worth from their position at work, than from their life as parent, and leave the children in care of nannies and boarding schools.
      Both are equally unideal for children.
      In both examples I ask myself: Why do these people even have children?

    Gomez and Morticia were a hot couple in the original 1960s TV series too, and there's a genuinely romantic/tragic reason for it. The actors who played them were actually in love, but they were both married to other people and they'd made a pact never to betray their spouses by doing anything about it, so when they were kissing & canoodling on set, playing their roles, that was the only chance they had. Of the two actors and the two spouses, the one who played Gomez lived the longest, and only after the other three were dead did he tell the story.

    • @venividiarrevederci4461
      @venividiarrevederci4461 Год назад +15

      Carolyn Jones (Morticia) wasn't married when the Addams Family was being produced (1964-66). She was married four times in her life, but not then: marriage #2 ended with a separation in 1963 and a finalized divorce in 1964, meaning she was newly single. John Astin (Gomez) was indeed married during the show's run -- the first of three marriages for him -- so IF there was anything to this narrative it could have been for the sake of Astin's marriage, but Jones had no spouse to betray.
      That said, I suppose it's possible there were lingering feelings that were never acted upon. The pair were supposedly good friends all the way until Jones' death in 1983, and despite the many marriages and divorces they were never both single simultaneously in Jones' lifetime. Perhaps a case of the timing just never being quite right? I don't know. I'd be interested to read/watch whatever interview Astin said this in, because I'd never heard this before.

I remember seeing Astin tell this story in a TV interview sometime in the 1990s (I think), but I must admit that after I posted, I went looking for the interview and/or the story on the internet and I couldn't find it. Maybe Jones wasn't married in '64-'66 but she did have a 'significant other'? I did find other interviews about the Addams Family in which a very old Astin didn't outright say what I remembered, but did seem to be hesitating and picking his words with extreme care, so maybe he got flak for the original interview?

      The Addams Family (1960) was also one of the first TV-shows broadcast to a wider audience where a romantic couple actually acted romantically towards each other on screen - prior to that any intimacy between a married couple on TV had been, at most, implied through dialogue and fade-to-black. Even married couples (even when the actors were married to each other) displays of affection were not commonly shown on screen.
      Whether the Addams Family really did lead the way on this, or it was just coincidental that showing intimacy became more accepted in the 60s, I couldn't say. But the Addams Family never shied away from showing how much Morticia and Gomez loved each other.

    • @galadballcrusher8182

      One has to remember that despite modern parlance assigning only the erotic meaning on word "romantic" the romanticism as a literary movement included also quite a fascination with death for the right causes and the melodramatic as well dueling to the death. Fun... maybe, but let me remind you, it's Tim Burton _using_ other's people fame for his own gain. I really enjoy Tim Burton when he does his *_Own Material_* but pretty much hate everything he's done to other's people's work, I.E. Alice, Willy Wonka, etc, etc. And to give an example of just how bad he's *_Already_* screwed up the Addams family with the wednesday show.... watch the first trailer for it again, and note how Gomez says he met Mortica there.... at "Nevermore" school... which directly contradicts the whole Funeral dialogue they had in this movie.
      In my opinion, Tim Burton wanted to do a "Hogwarts for weirdos" so he could push out a bunch of his smaller ideas that weren't big enough for a movie/show on their own, and he's _using_ the "Addams Family" as a way to tie all his little concepts together... while giving very *LITTLE* if any concern to source material. Furthermore... if this school for weirdos *_has_* existed... *WHY IN THE FUCK* are they only *NOW* sending wednesday there? Why send her to "normal school" for long?
      As much as I love Wednesday, and believe me... I adore her, "I'd worship the ground she walks upon" and consider myself lucky for her to "pity me" (2nd movie references) and I *WANT* to see more of her... I really get the feeling the show will be more about "School" and *LES* about Her.
      However, have you seen the "Adult Wednesday Addams" shorts that ran for a bit that had to be stopped cause it wasn't done with approval? Sounds messed up, but the girl who played her there *ABSOLUTELY NAILS* an Adult Wednesday, the writing, wit, attitude, *EVERYTHING* .... I still don't know why they didn't say... "okay stop... you didn't get permission to do this... *_But_* you are doing such an awesome job, we're gonna take over and make this into a *FULL* show, instead of just making her stop.

      @@James-iu2km To be fair, I wouldn't compare Addams Family lore between this movie and anything else, honestly. This movie doesn't follow the original comic or even parts of the TV show (which the style is based off of). In the show, Gomez and Morticia's mothers (Grandmama Addams and Hester Frump, respectively) tried to set Gomez up with Morticia's sister, Ophelia, but Gomez fell in love with Morticia at first sight. They just brought them over to the house, there was no funeral (the episode is called Morticia's Romance's pt. 1 and 2, it's on youtube).
      I'm not sure how they met in the comics, but apparently none of the characters even HAD names until the TV show was made, so it may have never even been addressed.
      Also: Tim Burton directed the two Michael Keaton Batman films, which were excellent, and Sweeney Todd was also quite enjoyable IMO... and I tend to hate musicals, lol.

      @James-iu2km Год назад

      @@vodengc520 first of all, I commend you on your knowledge of the family. I will admit I've been aware that the movies and the show and the cartoons did not share a very strong canonical bond in the minor details, (location of the house, ares of characters, etc). So I will also admit that I *_would_* have been willing to ignore minor inconsistencies in this new show.... *_IF_* it felt like it was actually focused on Wednesday.... instead of how prominent and *obvious* it is that she really isn't the focus the of the show, more so just the main character and from who's eyes we are meant to be seeing the focus of the show... "Nevermore".
      I may retract my fangs some should the show prove me wrong in my estimations, but let me ask you, given the trailers so far... does it *_really_* seem like he had a desire to write more content *about* Wednesday and from that built the rest of this... _OR_ does it feel more like he wanted to make the "Hogwarts for Freaks" and built the rest from that... cause that's how it feels to me.
      As for the Batman/Sweeny Todd... I must admit, those are my Favorite Batman movies. Granted having Jack Nicholson playing the Joker.... helps immensely, as well as Micheal Keaton playing Batman. I think Keaton was the best combination of Bruce/Batman. There have been Better "Bruces" and Better "Batmans" but I think Keaton played them both to about an 8/10 where others did a 9/10-10/10 on one but not the other. It also helped that I was a child and was pretty much my intro to the series. That being said... watch them again and count the number of guys Batman *MURDERS* lol... he's not supposed to do that. I think Tim has always a bit of problem sticking to the canon. I also loved Sweeny Todd, but am totally ignorant of the source material and therefore cannot judge it's authenticity.
      But I must also ask, have you seen the Adult Wednesday Addams I referenced in my previous comment? I'd be quite curious to hear your take on it.

      “Gordon” being shown as miserable the longer it went on to the point he was pretty much pleading for “forgiveness” was what gave it away. How her rage had him cowering and hiding away and then needing to sneak out just so he could see the kids perform.
      While the dark talk and violent games were always treated as something the family enjoyed and none were miserable about it. Like when Morticia gave Wednesday the larger cleaver like “here, this is better suited for your game” or how both kids were laughing while standing out in the storm with the antenna or Gomez playfully chuckling about Pugsley attempting to stab Wednesday at the seance.
      There’s definitely a contrast in how the scenes were portrayed, and serious kudos to the actors and directing staff for ensuring it was conveyed exactly as it should be - the Addamses enjoying their darkness as their light, while “Gordon” was trapped in a darkness that needed light.

    Almost every reactor to this movie, especially the younger generation, has the same reaction. There is as lot of confusion at the start, but at about the halfway point everyone, REALLY, gets into Gomez and Mortishia's relationship and is captivated and entralled by it. Despite their morbid and kinky demeanor, there is something, genuinely, wholesome about their marriage and family. They love each other and celebrate each other's passions. They never try to change one another for the other, rather nurture each other.

It follows Wednesday as she goes to college,, and like Harry Potter there are several mysteries, and dark shenanigans. I'm also looking forward to Enola Homes 2,. They started out as characters that would show up once in awhile in one-panel comics drawn by Charles Addams. None of them even had names for a long time, except Morticia. They were just called 'the family' or 'Addams' family'. They didn't get names until the TV series was developed in the 60s-- HIGHLY recommend it, it's a classic.

In my opinion, Carolyn Jones will always be the hottest Morticia. I think you should definitely see the sequel. You should also check out the original 60's tv series and the Charles Addams cartoons it was based on, that ran in the New Yorker for decades, starting in the 1930s. I remember reading them as a child, in books that my parents had. I think you'd enjoy them.

    I think the Addams are enchanted to be invulnerable to their own, but vulnerable to to people who openly oppose them (and they seem to be supernaturally lucky in the face of danger). So Wednesday can electrocute Pugsley all day if they want, but when Tully was fighting Gomez after turning on them fully, and outing himself as betraying them, he was able to injure Gomez.

    Gomez and Morticia are relationship goals. In the 1964 series Gomez was one of the only husbands on television at the time who ACTIVELY lusted after his own wife (the censors at the time wouldn't even allow married couples to share one bed!).
    The two Addams Family movies, along with Mermaids the year before, were the films that put Christina Ricci on the map in the 90s.
    The judge's decision would have been overturned on appeal REALLY quick because of his massive conflict of interest in rendering his judgment.
