Time for jaggy to put his money where his mouth is. I’d love to hear Jordan spin her way out of this one on a curse of politics episode. Pierre has just called for an emergency reconvene of the house. Time to put up or shut up for the NDP.
Canada benefits from the fact that the unelected Governor General does not meddle in parliamentary politics. Suggesting that she dictate when the House of Commons would be in session is ridiculous and would result in a constitutional disaster.
What kind of trade deal did we sign on to that a President can do this to us? I thought it was supposed to allow us entry into those markets tariff-free. Why did Trudeau sign us onto a deal like that? Do we still have the auto pact, for instance? Have we saved a market for the dairy industry while allowing the auto deal to wither?
They get around the trade deal rules by declaring a national security threat like the border and defense spending. That is what they did in Trump's first term with the steel and aluminum tariffs
@@kellybradford9149 Only in terms of bypassing congress. They have no obligation to Canada though. They can violate the trade deal with absolutely zero accountability other than retaliatory tariffs.
quit talking about how wrong Trump is with his thoughts on tariffs ... he couldn't care less ... just get busy at the boarder and we will be fine ... don't be such scaredy cats ... don't need to take Trump too literally ... just take him seriously
Why would Singh discuss extending the fall election by a week so certain ND and Liberal MP's would qualify for their pensions if he didn't intend to support the gov't for the ful term? I know that David, being trained in the lawyerly art of deductive reasoning would see the logic.
I find it curious NO ONE thinks of a true coalition govt as the solution to Canada’s current political vulnerability right now. Forget a coalition cabinet, run it till Oct 25 and remove the confidence uncertainty, so we can strongly negotiate w US. This hasn’t occurred to these political minds????
America will reach peak oil of shale oil in 2 years. So Canadian oil is still very important to the US economy. Don't discount our assets in western Canada.
The first thing Pierre needs to do when he wins is kill the tanker ban and announce they will approve pipelines to the coast. If anyone questions him just say "Trump seems concerned about the trade imbalance so we will try to fix that by exporting more oil to other countries". That removes any leverage Trump has.
She plotted this in silence and screwed Canada at the worst time with a BS letter you couldn’t pay me to vote for this woman if she becomes leader of the party.
@ it’s power play that she could have made 6 months ago she didn’t just decide to do this she was waiting for the best time to do this when she thought it would further her cause the fact that she chose now says a lot about her

@@lisawarner8578 The Prime Minister proposed to take Freeland off the biggest government department (Finance) to make her a minister without any department whatsoever (there is no department of Canada-U.S. relations). That's a clear humiliating demotion for someone who had been such a loyal soldier. Consider by contrast that Trudeau at least gave Jody Wilson-Raybould an actual government department (Veterans Affairs) when he took away her Attorney General position. Taking Freeland off of Finance may have been justifiable given the political climate, but asking her to first voluntarily fall on a sword by presenting the unpopular deficit should not have been expected to fly.
That was a riveting discussion. The real meat was in the back half. I appreciate Brian Topp for the hard dose of reality. Let's get organized Canada!
Call your MPP. We need an internal free trade agreement, and we can't have the process stymied by federal antics.
This is the best pod that explains what we have lived through this week. Congratulations David Herle
Holy smokes - that was awesome - fantastic panel - lots of intelligent food for thought - thanks David
Doesnt matter which leader or party you support, these open discussions are a must. Its clear to all supporters, PMJT has to step aside immediately.
Great episode, thank you!
Topp at 54:16 is very dismissive of the border problem, which is a priority for the U.S. Good thing he doesn't get to decide anything.
Because the northern border is not a big problem. That's why. And all the stats show that. Good thing you don't get to decide anything.
Trudeau gave all the jobs to TFWs. The idea that he is going to protect Canadian jobs against Trump is laughable. 😂
Regardless of leader, the fact that the general public do not agree with the policies especially fiscally of the party. Simple as that.
Canada will be healing very soon. The nightmare is officially over!!! It’s time to be proud to be Canadian again soon.
I think the next election should be about the Best in Trade.
Thanks i enjoy your show
So why did Trudeau fire Freeland if he is interested in thwarting the tariff threat?
Does the COS have a responsibility to the country? Does the G-G?
Trudeau Gotta Go. So does Freeland and the Tariffs are fixed

I would advise you to listen to Mansbridge podcast, part 2, Good Talk, get yourself educated on the rules of parliament.
@kathykeller3430 hahahaha I listen to libtalk every week. The three out of touch boomers love to talk about procedural norms.

how about if Trudeau just vacates the position of Prime Minister, and let anyone else deal with Trump ... we will have a better outcome
Was waiting for someone to call out how people talked about Freeland before the resignation letter and after. People are weird.
