OMG Honey. thank you so much for explaining this. I'm going to surprise my 13 year old niece with a shirt I bought her and I wanted to Ladder the back and just couldn't figure it out. You're the best and thanks again!
I am LOVING your shirt videos!!!! Saving them all to my favorites! I can't wait to see more!!! :D I want to definitely learn how to make the heart shape like you did in the previous shirt video. :)
Thank you so much! I saw another tutorial, but I couldn't pick up how to finish the weaving. Thank you for taking the time to explain and repeat how to do these T-shirts. You are a cute Mage.
great job on ur tuts sweetie i'm a much older woman and a mom and i like the fact that i can control how i do these for younger kids by sewing a tank top under the tees, still keeping them edgy but not sexualizing the clothes so tyvm u doll for your tuts :)
Thanks for this tutorial! I did up a bunch of band T-shirts using your ideas and I wear them on stage with my band. Thanks for helping me look like a rock star!
Thankyou so much! I am very big in t-shirt reconstruction, and I had ran out of ideas for what to do with my next t-shirt, and your videos are very easy and they aren't exactly what I find in all the other channels. :)
Probably. I think it's the cotton texture that allows it to roll, because it works with 100% cotton, and I know I've done it with spandex blends... I don't have a polyester blend handy to actually look at it and see, but basically if it's stretchy like t-shirt fabric it should work.
Okay. I just discovered you today when I was watching DIY videos and you are awesome. Okay. I love people that don't care what other people think you seem really crafty and nice. You're beautifullll too. I'm watching all your other videos now lol(:
Thanks! I just made a pretty cool slashed & laddered shirt in the back like yours but I did a triple ladder & ended up cutting it into a tank & braiding the tank top straps. Now I'm ready for a good time! :)
i just watched another how-to video about how to cut shirts... your's is much better!! i love your videos and your voice is way better than the one i watched (her's was soooo annoying) so keep uploading videos!! :D
Oh, thank you for the reminder, this is another clarification video I've been meaning to do. People ask this question a lot so I've realized I need to do another video explaining more. But there are 3 main options: 1) cut the last one in half and tie it around the bottom hem in a double knot, 2) safety pin the last one down so you can remove it later and weave another design (which is what I do), or 3) sew the last one down permanently.
love the NO8H shirt! im obsessed with that organization! its my siggy, my screen saver and all tht! i wear a piece of tape on my chest on random days that read NOH8. (: very cool!
@fashionmandypeace It actually loosens a bit when you cut the slashes, since as you can see it droops when you stretch the fabric strips. When you weave it once it doesn't get much tighter, but if you kept weaving it multiple times it would get back to the original fit. It would take a lot of layers, though. I would start with a fitted shirt, or even one that is slightly too tight and judge from there what you like.
@EmoSkittlezz You can pin the last strand to the waistband so it won't unravel, or sew it there. You can also cut the last strand in half and tie both ends to the waistband. Or if you don't want to cut it, because maybe you want to be able to undo and redo it as you wish, you can use a scrap piece of fabric, ribbon, or string to tie the last strand to the waistband. Basically just whichever one you end up holding at the end, secure it to the waistband somehow and it won't unravel.
The strings that result from the slashing stretch out when you pull them, so it would make the shirt WIDER at first. From there, you could tie the individual strands smaller to keep this basic look while making it small again. You could cut them shorter and sew or pin them together instead of tying. The weaving design does bring it tighter some, but I'm not sure if that alone would help a shirt that starts out too big. Or you could make the shirt smaller in another way first, and THEN do this.
after watching other videos on this type of thing, i've noticed that if you don't want to have the odd hole in the top of your shirt, you can make the slashes go from the very top of the shirt down to somewhere near the bottom.
With a sewing machine, all you really have to do is create new seams parallel to where the original seams are, so it keeps the same shape. And just make them far enough in to fit you snugly. You'll have to detach the sleeves first to re-sew the tube of the shirt, and then either put the sleeves back in a decorative way or also cut the sleeves smaller and re-attach them. But if you want the same basic shirt style, just smaller, just make sure you stay parallel to the original seams.
@liquidlucy1 I explained it verbally, either cut it in half and tie the pieces to the bottom band, sew it, or fasten with a safety pin. To tie it, it's literally just tied in knots around the bottom piece.
@RhealArtsy Oh yeah, these are definitely just as cool with another layer attached! I always wear something underneath, but I leave them unattached so I can change the color beneath it. I'm glad you like them!
@UnHealedScarz If you choose to tie it, what I do is cut what ends up being the bottom strip in half, and I tie each end in a double knot or square knot to the bottom hem. It doesn't come loose. It's just like when I cut & tie the sides of the shirts. They go through the wash & everything. A more slippery fabric might loosen, but t-shirt fabric stays very well. Other options would be to safety pin the bottom strip to the bottom hem, or sew it there.
I've gotten this exact comment before, word for word. So if this is just something you routinely say to people, get over it. I do straighten my hair and wear makeup when I feel like it, but I'm not the kind of person who wastes valuable time changing my appearance when I'm already beautiful. Thank you.
Also, I've told people about Adam Saaks in the past. I know who he is and I've even directed people toward his videos at times. I acknowledge what he does. It's very cool. I just know that we can do it, too. I also acknowledge that he brought this technique to the attention of many more people than may have learned about it otherwise. We should all be grateful for that. But he did not invent it, so to me, that would be undue credit. He is very good and very helpful, it's just not his alone.
Thank you for this video! I'm really happy with the result I just achieved following your instruction on an old Zumba fitness top I'd got bored with. Excellent!
@Carttuska I've done it with both 100% cotton and mixtures, like 50% cotton/50% polyester. Most of my t-shirts are one of the two, I think. So you should be good.
this tutorial was great onl scince i wasnt to cofedent on wearing a singlet i sewed a piece of fabric with an awsome pattern behind it, its amazing what u can do with old cloths
hahahaa!!! it was so funny because i overstretched the "strings" and it doesn't look a little like yours!! :( hahaha i'll keep practicing and maybe next time i achieve it :3 by the way, is the best tutorial about cutting tshirts that i ever watched (and believe me, i've been watching a lot) and please excuse me because of my bad english writting :S
Yep, I have some done in the front and sometimes I wear this shirt backwards with a solid cami underneath. If you do one specifically in the front, it WOULD probably look better to do a small, highlight section, rather than the whole front panel. I can add that to my list of future videos to show what I mean more, but yes. Oh, the pink crop top I'm wearing in one of these videos, I have some weaving just accenting the neckline, which is one other way to do it.
@SydBieber0512 Haha. You're right. I am weird. Always have been, and proud of it. That's why I'm doing pretty successfully. Let me know when you have a valid point.
@TianaD01 Oh hey, I actually already have a tutorial of how I did that pink heart shirt. It's called "T-Shirt Recon: That's Amore" on my channel. I thought I had one! =P
I didn't think you meant it in a bad way! I just meant, you don't have to write it as though you're talking to someone else, because I read them so it can be addressed to me! I'm very underweight, but it's just how I was born. Do not at all seek to be like me. I simply can't help it. My mom was this skinny at my age, too, so probably when I get older, have kids and whatnot, I'll be more normal sized.
About those two rude comments made about your hair and make-up. I like a girl who can handle herself.:) Well done Cara. Whatever it's worth coming from an old man. I think your hair always looks beautiful, no matter what way you wear it. As far as make-up goes, your GORGEOUS with or without make-up. I"M JUST SAYING! :) Yes Cara, I watched your video on T Shirts. You can stop laughing at me now. :P Blessings my friend. O x Syker :)
@celinakyleify You can keep weaving them over and over in layers until they're tight! You can keep weaving it over and over as many times as will fit, and it will get a little more tight each time. Thank you!
@makeupbygloria I couldn't fit in the frame, but I said you just cut the last strand in half and tie the ends to the previous strand at the bottom of the shirt. OR fasten it with a safety pin so you can take it out later.
I read it. "Adam Sacks [...] or other ones who really have the good technique" [sic] implies that I, and others who do recons for fun, do not have good technique. Your comment did not sound friendly. I apologize if the fact that it is text caused a misreading--obviously since I cannot hear your tone of voice, there is margin for error. It sounded like you were saying my help is not worthwhile.
Sewing? Like a sewn design, or a seam? You can cut over a seam but the part with the seam just won't stretch. I don't think that would be too big of a problem. If it's a sewn design, then cutting it would cut the threads of the design so I wouldn't do that. If it's a printed on design, that's fine, it won't hurt it. I cut through a printed design on my slashing tutorial video. I just don't know what you mean, sorry!
I haven't washed this shirt with the slashes woven. I always undo it. But I have washed other shirts that are sewn permanently in their woven design and it doesn't come out.
@LeaveJordanAlone IIiiii gotcha. I was just confused cuz that's what all my t-shirt videos are called and I don't know what else you WOULD call it lol. That would be a sweet branch of the military, though, I'm sure. Like the fashion police, but they protect the whole country.
omg! i love love loveee these tshirt videos of yours!! please please pleaseee come up with more asap! ohh and i was curious.. i have my boyfriends old tshirt, kinda baggy with a collar, i need ideas.. do u have any??
No, because it's the same technique. I made these basics videos to show the techniques so I could say "I used this technique on this" instead of making a new video for each thing I do. "Cut & Tie" is what I did to the sides, and this video shows what I did to accent the neckline. The only difference is that it's a crop top, so I just cut off the bottom first.
@Zissou1107 I guess I'll have to do a video on this sometime since no one seems to understand the explanation I gave. You just tie it to the bottom hem, or pin it there, or sew it there.
@RayeofHappiness I started working on a tutorial for that, but I can't do recons at school due to lack of time/space to do it. It's really easy, and it's in the first Generation T book if you have access to that. I really want to get more tutorials up when I can, and that one is first on my list!
Kara!! Watching this 11 years later,I love RUclips
Finally one tutorial that actually makes weaving/laddering understandable! Thank you so much! :)
Your responses to ignorant comments are total WINS! Lol we need more people like u in the world. Great video btw!
OMG Honey. thank you so much for explaining this. I'm going to surprise my 13 year old niece with a shirt I bought her and I wanted to Ladder the back and just couldn't figure it out.

ohhh thanks for the advice! you're really on top of your comments! its nice that you actually make time to answer them!
Thanks... best all-in-one video on T-shirt weaving !!!
great job on ur tuts sweetie i'm a much older woman and a mom and i like the fact that i can control how i do these for younger kids by sewing a tank top under the tees, still keeping them edgy but not sexualizing the clothes so tyvm u doll for your tuts :)

Nice job !! This is really helps to the student who wants to be a fashion designer you give them an idea to do ..

Nice job showing the tear drop process. Thank you.
omg, i LOVE the little dress thingy on the left at 0:05. adorable
You are awesome at explaining this weaving stuff loooooved your video. Thanks!
i used the tear drop technic and i loved it! Thanks a billion
The strings that result from the slashing stretch out when you pull them, so it would make the shirt WIDER at first. thak uou SO much for making this video!!! i have a lot of old shirts, so now i'm gonna make em look just like new!! THANK YOU! :)

I've heard that before, actually, and I am STILL amazed that so many of you see that!
Good idea! I always layer mine over another shirt but you can definitely attach more fabric.
@liquidlucy1 I explained it verbally, either cut it in half and tie the pieces to the bottom band, sew it, or fasten with a safety pin. To tie it, it's literally just tied in knots around the bottom piece.
I absolutely love your alternate pattern!
Awesome! My aunt gives me giant shirts all the time, and I had no idea what to do with them all! ^^
@RhealArtsy Oh yeah, these are definitely just as cool with another layer attached! I always wear something underneath, but I leave them unattached so I can change the color beneath it. I'm glad you like them!

LOOOOOOVE it. SO cute. One of these days, I'm going to have to get a little creative with my shirts. ;)
LOVE your intro and ofc the whole tutorial!!
I think I mention it another video. It was a gift someone found for me at a garage sale.
I've gotten this exact comment before, word for word. So if this is just something you routinely say to people, get over it. I do straighten my hair and wear makeup when I feel like it, but I'm not the kind of person who wastes valuable time changing my appearance when I'm already beautiful. Thank you.
Never saw the twist variation! Love it :D
Your Really Talented !!! And I Love Your Style !!

Yayyy for being creative and combining methods!
it's midnight and I have finals
tomorrow but I got super inspired and went and did one
Thank you for this video! I'm really happy with the result I just achieved following your instruction on an old Zumba fitness top I'd got bored with. Excellent!

You make GREAT tutorials
this tutorial was great onl scince i wasnt to cofedent on wearing a singlet i sewed a piece of fabric with an awsome pattern behind it, its amazing what u can do with old cloths
Great tut! Thanks...making one this weekend.
hahah love your intro and how confident you are! :)
You can also do it ON the sleeve, which someone just asked me about, as shown in the intro clip.
Yep, as long as there's no seam there to stop it from stretching there.
It really turns interesting on a heart pattern like i did; thanks for the help!
hahahaa!!! it was so funny because i overstretched the "strings" and it doesn't look a little like yours!! :( hahaha i'll keep practicing and maybe next time i achieve it :3 by the way, is the best tutorial about cutting tshirts that i ever watched (and believe me, i've been watching a lot) and please excuse me because of my bad english writting :S

thankyou for the videos, just what i've been looking for :D
aqui estamos perto do carnaval, e as blusas customizadas são sempre bem vindas, e esse tutorial seu está ótimo. Adorei!!!
n.n Loved the second one, with the "tear drop" hope I can try this soon, looks very easy! Thanks for the tutorials..... ^^
This is really cute. thank you for doing and showing this. BB
@cutewitch772 OH HEY SO I DID THIS TUTORIAL. It's in the playlist. Yay.
That's another video. This video was specifically about adding the decor to it once you have it slashed.
oh, no, you explained it great! i just wanted to be certain before i start knifing my t-shirts. :P
@ShroudedCuteness I made that one, too. Super easy stuff!
this is back
@pinksoap100 Thank you! I plan to! Recons are less frequent, though, since they take longer.
About those two rude comments made about your hair and make-up. I like a girl who can handle herself.:) Well done Cara. Whatever it's worth coming from an old man. No, the screenprint on the front was there.
I loved your video. Thank you.
@XxemosencexX I have a video on it, "That's Amore" recon. It's just using the slashing technique in a certain shape.
Sorry if I was confusing! I like to offer a lot of options, but I sometimes don't realize when I'm not explaining well enough. You're welcome!
I haven't washed this shirt with the slashes woven. I always undo it. But I have washed other shirts that are sewn permanently in their woven design and it doesn't come out.
Not stupid! You just needed the right explanation.
@xEloiseKerryx You're welcome!
@LeaveJordanAlone IIiiii gotcha. I was just confused cuz that's what all my t-shirt videos are called and I don't know what else you WOULD call it lol. That would be a sweet branch of the military, though, I'm sure. Like the fashion police, but they protect the whole country.
Ohh ok I had no idea but may god bless you and nice talking to you. ! :}
omg! i love love loveee these tshirt videos of yours!! please please pleaseee come up with more asap! ohh and i was curious.. i have my boyfriends old tshirt, kinda baggy with a collar, i need ideas.. do u have any??
Awesome video, so helpful. You explained and showed the process very well. Will be subscribing:-)
A video on this! Thanks!
you're a good explainer!
Oh! Thank you!
@GlitterSpotlight Oh. Thank you.
i love the intro!!
You just tie it to the bottom hem, or pin it there, or sew it there.
okay. making it smaller first sounds wayy easier, lol. i'll just cut and tie it first. thanks for replying!
@ErrienderRavenheart Haha I've done that, but I always feel like I'm wasting the pins! I'm very frugal. =P
@RayeofHappiness I started working on a tutorial for that, but I can't do recons at school due to lack of time/space to do it. It's really easy, and it's in the first Generation T book if you have access to that. I really want to get more tutorials up when I can, and that one is first on my list!
Omg make more of these videos
Can you create a shape on the back; say, a butterfly using the weaving/laddering technique?
@erineatthesun Why, thank you for saying so!
