I found a 55+ community in Dunedin Florida. Heated pool, clubhouse with library and billiards, meeting room and kitchen, landscaping included in HOA, as well as cable and internet, trash water and sewer. The homes are block villas with carports or 1car garages.and I can afford mine, that I bought in August, on just my social security and a very small pension. HOA is $220/month. No flood insurance needed for this area and I am 1/8 mile from the gulf. My property taxes are less than I was paying in Ohio.168 homes in my very active community.
I remember when you listed off your monthly expenses 😂 I was out immediately! But I can still enjoy the villages watching you two & Gizmo ! I still made the move to Florida though in October !
I've been watching your channel for a while, today's show was especially therapeutic regarding following your heart...family and friends are a "phone call away" wherever you live. Much love, health & joy to all three of you!!♥️♥️♥️
Great show, having a minimum of 2,500 per month would make it difficult to live in any structured community. You are so right, you have to make decisions for yourself, not for others.
You can Also put a "no soliciting sign" or Decal on your Door. Also one of the nice things that I noticed in the Villages is that all your Electric, Cable & Phone lines are Underground so you will not have severe power outages due to downed power lines or poles being hit by automobiles.
You are right Jerry and Linda. We are in the 4th quarter of our life. Do what you want with YOUR life. Glad you are both better. The sculpture of Gizmo is beautiful.
Great show Jerry & Linda and your outlook on living at our age is so important for people to come to terms with. Have a great week and see you next time💕
Happy Valentine's Day. My wife and I been married for over 30 years. Great to see others who endure a long term marriage. Good video today. I am looking to move somewhere away from the snowy winters of PA but also not sure I could handle the extreme hot summers of Florida. Maintaining two homes is not very likely. Retirement will be here within the next ten years. We are looking forward to those years after work and hope they are as enjoyable as the villages newcomers.
I just moved here over 2 weeks ago, both of my parents are gone and my 2 boys have moved out and are starting their own lives. My older son came down for 5 days and immediately said he loves The Villages and is so happy that I am here and happy to be starting a new life here!
Is it just me, but does the show get better and better every week? If you don't have a smile on your face by the end of the show, well, you just weren't paying close enough attention. This show never fails to put a smile on your face!
Love listening to you each week & learning more about the villages. This really helps us in our decision making - to move there or not. Still exploring.
Happy Valentine's Day , Linda and Jerry & Gizmo ! Enjoyed your show today. So glad you all are feeling better. Love you and have a great day !! 😊❤️❤️❤️
Coming to the Villages in. APRIl/MAY to purchase home. It's been our 5yr plan. So excited. Unfortunately homes are so much expensive. Gonna have to bite the bullet. I am going to search out Jerry and Linda forsure! Thank you for doing these videos, appreciate all the information.
An alternate option for a generator is a battery bank. There are several portable options that could keep your fridge/freezer going for several days. And all you have to do is keep it topped off until you need it. There are even emergency options that come with a small portable solar panel. They will cost you a bit more up front, but you don't have to worry about keeping fuel at home. Thanks for another great video guys . . . and I've been known to sing your song more than once . . . ok, every day :D
I just love you guys ! I’m a new fan. Maybe one day I’ll live in the Villages ( currently a bit too financially ambitious for me tho. We’ll see). Getting tired of the cold up North. Today in Buffalo, NY... April 19, 2022 it’s currently 39 degrees (windchill factor : 28 !) with significant wind ...... AND .... SNOW SHOWERS ! Gimme a break ! Anyway, You Two have a fabulous show, are a marvelous Couple, and you are my ray of sunshine today. Gosh I hope I look as great as you when I’m 66. 62 right now. Shine on! Liz
Sack roofing, Batterbee roofing and Schaefer roofing are well established roofing companies that have been working in the villages since the beginning. These are three roofing companies you can trust.
Nice that the Rotary Club invited you to speak. The club is for businessmen, so their meetings are before office hours or at lunchtime. Is this a Villages branch of the club? Are the members retired? It looked that way.
LOVE, your show every week! I am always looking forward to your next installment each Monday! You are a Wonderful Couple working together well, I can see it in your attitudes and smiles to each other. Happy Valentines Day to you both.🎁🎈❤💘💖💓🎉
many many years ago i came down from South Carolina to the villages to bowl in tournaments there..later that year the place was torn apart by tornados..they had to rebuild alot..it wasn't even close to the size it is now..back when i visited
Love your blue shirts ! My husband and I both watch your channel. We are seriously thinking about moving to the villages. We need to do our homework. We own some land up by the Tennessee river. It’s beautiful land. 12 acres and About a 3 minute drive to the boat dock. But we spend our free time in Florida. Due to health reasons we haven’t taken the boat out in 2 years. And it seems the 12 acres just need work all the time. We are ready for a very a comfortable laid back life. And we know how much we love the area of the villages. Plus our daughter is in Florida. Love your rocks! How cute. Oh my I would not have thought bears are your area. How talented the sculpture of Gismo is. That took not only talent but time. What a nice gift. You mentioned a generator , we have solar. Enough to keep a freezer going and air conditioning because of health conditions. I don’t need to get way over heated. And the solicitors you could post a sign on your door. I think with the cost of living going up you must be able to generate income from several sources. My husband and I lived in the most expensive community in west Tennessee for 20 years. Once all the children were out of the house we moved to the country. I’m retired disabled now. Have been for 13 years with a very rare disease. It was a real shock to become so sick at age 47. Mostly because I still had another child to get through college. And we lived in that very expensive community in a big house. But my husband jumped to the challenge and increased his salary with lots of overtime. He’s an electrician. Retired electrician now. He retired at 47 too, By choice. But he got busy and is earning income right from the house. For the people wondering if you can live on social security. I think that varies. Everyone earns different amounts. I always say you need 5 sources of income. They all add up and can afford you what you need and sometimes what you want. The diet, my husband was diagnosed with diabetes last week. It was scary. But in just one week he has changed his diet using an app that is getting him on track. Blood sugar is coming down with no medications. Diet only and I believe he has a wonderful chance to live longer and healthier on this new diet of eating healthier. I have developed celiac disease. So no gluten. Together we just about can’t eat anything. But we find with our limited food choices we are full and happy. Life is all about being happy. I know how happy we are in Florida and it because we feel better. I don’t want to leave the child we have back in Tennessee. But she is a flight away. She could come down and visit us and her sister who lives in Florida anytime. We hope often. Just last October we rented the big timeshare with the lock off. We took everyone to Disney. It was wonderful having everyone under one roof. Who knows she might decide to move to Florida too. I believe there are places in all price ranges available. Maybe not so much the villages but close by. God bless you guys. Enjoy your day ! Leslye
With no mortgage, small house (maybe 2 beds, 2 bath), $2,500 a month is possible in my opinion. Of course, personal lifestyle is a big question and that probably is going to be your biggest impact. As Jerry and Linda said, most expenses are going to be similar no matter where you live.
Happy Valentine's Day you two love birds! 😍 We're not on FB, so really enjoy your stories and photos here on RUclips. Glad you are both feeling better!😃
Thanks for your videos. I look forward to them. It looks like most of the properties are houses. Condos might make more sense after a spouse dies. Your apartment video was helpful but there is nothing more liberating than a fully paid for home.
Happy Valentine’s Day! We recently got a solar battery with a couple of panels from Evenflo. We didn’t want to worry about running out of gas plus here in Tucson we have a good supply of sunshine! The other worry is the electrical grid going out. That happened in SC when we were visiting. Love your channel and have watching for a couple of years. Mandy from Tucson🌵
Happy Valentines Day to you ! Love Gizmo’s statue. Yes it’s expensive everywhere. I’m near Nashville TN and property values are skyrocketing. Glad I own my condo but it’s all expensive everywhere. Great show!!
We could not get a lot of addresses within the Villages using Google Maps, Tom Tom, Garmin and the Villages Map. The BEST one is WAYZ! Its Free! Wayz took us everywhere!
Sadly we used to surrounded by mostly farmland and woodlands so we got to see allot of deer, rabbits, snakes, geese and maybe one or two of an elusive coyote. But with all the new housing developments in our area and the farmland being bought and woodland being torn down for subdivisions. We do not get to see barely any wildlife; so enjoy them from a distance while you can because you may miss them when they are gone.
You are right BJ… they are a treasure for sure. The thing is … when you drive around the outskirts of The Villages, Much of the land is not very attractive. We are sure that it provided a habitat for some wildlife…. but we also can see where The Villages has tried to provide a tremendous amount of natural area for those surviving animals.
Happy ❤️ Day! I’ve been a fan for over a year now from Harrisburg PA. You’ve made our COVID lockdowns less stressful. Sue and I finally made it back to Florida last week for a two week visit. We’re in Celebration now and will be in Del Ray and Pasadena this week.
With respect to the question as to whether a person could live in the villages on his Social Security, you missed a great opportunity to refer that person to the show you did about a month ago on budgeting for life in the villages, or for that matter could apply to anywhere else. That was a terrific and very comprehensive Budget making tool for retirees.

Great show guys. Looks like you were a hit at Future Farmers. 0630. Whew. That’s the tail end of a night shift right there. We have a generator (in Hawaii) because we live up a winding road through the forest at 3400’. (The jungle is down at 1000’) If we get lots of rain or wind, down come those branches onto the power lines. God Bless em, the electric crews are up here every other month or so. We got a transfer switch set-up, so our power switches to generator automatically, powering the whole house. If a hurricane hits, we are set. The roof should have a good chance too - it’s cement tile.
Happy Valentine's Day! DH and I are celebrating our 37th V Day and in 2 days will celebrate our 37th wedding anniversary. Getting excited about our upcoming visit in April and trying to figure out what are our must takes for a move to a smaller home. We won't need furniture will we? I figure the less we have the bigger the house will seem. And I MUST bring my long arm quilting machine.....
Susan - I am a long armer too! Did you purchase your home already? We have a home to sell so are just looking at models.....a room for the long arm has certainly presented issues. We will likely be moving in the fall. Would love to keep in touch and share ideas.
@@sherrynorton9093 no, just gonna do a lifestyle visit now. Gotta go home and get rid of 20 years of collecting fabric and sewing machines and see what we have to do to get the house up for sale. I don't do anything fancy with my machine. But yeah, it would be great to meet up!
The best is The Villages APP, the same APP where you look for homes, activities. Click on destinations - there is an option for CAR or GOLF CART directions. It gives verbal turn by turn instructions and stays “open” even if not refreshed (before the recent update, the screen would close unless touched every few seconds).
I came to the Villages in 2011 after the tornado, a good friend that lived there when it the tornado hit, he worked for Home Depot immediately went to the store and got all the blue covers he could and went house to house to distribute them. His is Ward Vaughn. The are a great couple in The Villages
I have a No Soliciting sign on my door and still get people trying to sell me something. There's lots of 55 and older mobile home parks down in Florida where $2500 a month would be sufficient.
Happy Valentine's Day, Jerry and Linda. Glad you are feeling much better. What an amazing sculpture of Gizmo. Hey Gizmo, happy you were able to leave time out and return to "the set!"
Thank you! I love to learn about retirement options. ( Rentals)I may have just Social Security, but I am soooo wealthy in my adventurous spirit, and "can do" attitude. If it's meant to be..it will be 😀 Keeping the faith! Thank you, for insights ( I would have never thought about Sinkhole insurance! Have a beautiful day! Kind Regards, Cynthia

To all villagers thank you for keeping small businesses going. Sometimes its better to spend it now. Leaving it for children is not always wise.

You don’t need to quarantine for longer than 5 days after the start of symptoms. Live and love life!!
