Looks like a great experience Gerrit! I'm gearing up for a trip to an island in Ireland that has nesting puffins, shearwaters, and terns. Picked some good tips from your video.
Thank you! I learned a great deal from your work, from photography techniques, to environment and birds. And what I’ve learned fuels me to learn more about birds and nature, which in turn makes me appreciate them so much more while becoming ever more present when I live such experiences.
It's funny that this just popped up, because just the other day I was watching some brants on the coast of New England where I live, not common, and was thinking about the Izembek documentary. Really enjoyed getting to see this part of the world through your film and photos. The world of the pelagic birds is intriguing and something that is hard for us to experience.
I brought an 800mm PF lens which I mainly brought for shooting birds in flight from the boat but it was useful onshore too. You are not allowed to sit, kneel, squat due to concerns with getting dirty and spreading bird flu so the extra working distance gave me more flexibility to use variations in ground topography to get some better angles. My main lens though was a 100-400. I also took at 24-70.
Great summary of the first part of your trip, we look forward to the next part ☺
Thank you! 😃
Awesome video - looking forward to part 2!

Great video! I'm curious about the gear you brought with you, specifically lens choice for a trip like this?
