Yes! Indian identity is a linguistic identity. If you speak the language you are one of us, cos it's rare that other groups speak Tamil. EVEN other types of Indians such as Urdu muslims descended from Chennai merchants (who know tamil), act proud of not speaking the language.Traditionally, Tamils have been looked down upon as low status group of people mainly cos we are (i) minorities in the region we live in and (ii) humble people who are not concerned with showing off wealth or status. Many of us are dark skinned as well and we all know that light skinned groups often think of themselves of somehow being superior. So it's rare that external groups speak the language. I'm simply explaining the dynamics of society as I had observed
@@shamimabanu3779 This thing about the skin colour is, unfortunately, true, I am Gujarati and everyone seems to be obsessed with having light skin, even my own mother would scold me for playing out in the sun and getting sunburned when I was younger, she made me use some lightening creams and various face scrubs and told me to start looking after my skin so I don't become a "khari bhiladhi (black cat)". Luckily, she's stopped that (now that my skin has become lighter) and I no longer use those creams, however I did learn how to not go out in the sun without sunblock and how to exfoliate to get rid of sunburnt skin, so at least now I can look after my skin better from a health perspective not a colour perspective. But still, it hurts my heart when I see and hear other young girls and boys getting discriminated/treated differently because of the darkness/lightness of their skin, it makes me feel so angry too. Tamil, Cantonese and Mandarin are on my list of languages to learn, right after I'm done with Korean and Gujarati (I'm not fluent in it despite it being my "home language" coz we just use English at home, but I am semi-fluent in Afrikaans though, thanks to school)
My grandfather came to Fiji from China during the 1940s, and he first lived in a place called Labasa which has a predominantly large Indian population. He now speaks Cantonese, Fiji Hindi, Fijian and English quite fluently, and it's amusing to see the surprise on his client's faces when they talk about him in Hindi and he joins in the conversation gossiping about himself as well xD
I'm Filipina-Spanish but can speak and understand Hindi about 85%😉 It's actually because of my love and fondness with Indian cultures, food, movies and people that made me learned the language 😊🙏
I'm mixed too! Like so many guys and girls in the comment section. I'm Indo Portuguese! It's good to know that there r so many mixed people in the world.
I guess many didn't know that this kind of situation is almost normal in countries like Singapore and Malaysia. You can see a Chinese born being raised by a Malay, an Indian born raised by a Chinese and etc. I love the fact that cultural appropriation wasn't a big issue but instead, we embrace each cultures equally. That's what makes us unique :)
This is very common in Malaysia..what is more common is back then (our grandparents era)..a lot of chinese baby girl were given away and were mostly raised by indian folks, ithink back then the chinese community had a preference for baby boy to carry the sur name of the family along..as a result of that i have met many "indian" woman who are actually purely chinese but fully adopted the tamil ways of life..they even wear saree all the time and mary indian men..and basically speak tamil...i have seen many many situations like this.
Wow I don't know that Indian and Chinese are great friends instead they have border issue😂😂 their babies will definitely be smart and intelligent as they have genes from China and India which have gold medal in international maths and science Olympiad❤
In my younger days, I took a liking of a beautiful girl from Punjab. Her father was a security guard at the place where I play water polo. I couldn't speak a single Indian word, and she couldn't speak any Chinese. So we looked at each other and smiled. And she has beautiful smiles. Anyway, I decided to take matters into my own hand to learn to speak Punjabi. The obvious starting place is to ask her father to teach me the language. I got to count up to ten, and a simple "how are you?". Then I left the country and that was all the Punjabi I knew. The country I used to live in had very few problems between Indians and Chinese. In fact, I had some great Indian school mates whom we used to go out for some cheap meals after school. They quite like Chinese meals, and I like Indian curries. With Malays, it is a little complicated because it seems religion always gets in the way.
Man not only with malays every muslim keeps his religion first & everything next. Also their hated for us hindus is so much because in their view we worship idols & Allah will throw us into hell.

@Doctron Disagree. Its enough if she is able to communicate. English-speaking people always have such high standards when they cant speak any other language at all. For example, many people write that Jackie Chan still speaks "poor English". Jackie Chan speaks great English for a Hongkong Chinese who grew up there. Try speaking Chinese!! Learn other languages and then you will see that this amount of text is hard to write for a non-native

"Annan ,discount illaya"😂
I understand tamil, so it caught me off guard when he started speaking perfect tamil all of a sudden.
I’m Indian raised Chinese and I’m more interested in the culture than the natives themselves. They treat me like family for speaking their language
I’m Chinese and had an Indian English tutor growing up. Had very fond memories of eating with her family. Much ❤️
I find people from South to be most kindest people 😍😍😍,please stay the same

My grandfather came to Fiji from China during the 1940s, and he first lived in a place called Labasa which has a predominantly large Indian population. He now speaks Cantonese, Fiji Hindi, Fijian and English quite fluently, and it's amusing to see the surprise on his client's faces when they talk about him in Hindi and he joins in the conversation gossiping about himself as well xD
Kiwi Tuki I can speak Tamil,Telugu,English,Spanish,Hindi,Malayalam,Portuguese and French mostly fluently
Total War Is Fun lol you definitely can't speak English...
Creeper Mishra why not, my English is perfectly fluent

I'm Filipina-Spanish but can speak and understand Hindi about 85%😉 It's actually because of my love and fondness with Indian cultures, food, movies and people that made me learned the language 😊🙏
Great ❤ U live in philippines or india ??
@@ramana1958yes but learning Hindi will help more than learning any other language for a foreigner & it will also help in learning Sanskrit.
It is absolutely amazing that he is trilingual! So impressive he took on a Tamil as well as English. Major props.
In Singapore, the 1st language they use is English, there are no anyone (except some foreigners) that can't speak English in Singapore.

我会说一点汉语。
I guess many didn't know that this kind of situation is almost normal in countries like Singapore and Malaysia. You can see a Chinese born being raised by a Malay, an Indian born raised by a Chinese and etc. I love the fact that cultural appropriation wasn't a big issue but instead, we embrace each cultures equally. That's what makes us unique :)
I think it's only cultural appropriation when someone from an advantageous group tries to profit off the culture of a marginalized group
Indians seem to be very loving people especially as parents. I observe that a lot
You can tell how much his foster parents loved him
Tamil is such a musical language...it just sounds so beautiful💕
He looks like a typical Chinese uncle until he talks. how stinking cute is that 💕💕
This is very common in Malaysia..what is more common is back then (our grandparents era)..a lot of chinese baby girl were given away and were mostly raised by indian folks, ithink back then the chinese community had a preference for baby boy to carry the sur name of the family along..as a result of that i have met many "indian" woman who are actually purely chinese but fully adopted the tamil ways of life..they even wear saree all the time and mary indian men..and basically speak tamil...i have seen many many situations like this.
Wow I don't know that Indian and Chinese are great friends instead they have border issue😂😂 their babies will definitely be smart and intelligent as they have genes from China and India which have gold medal in international maths and science Olympiad❤
I am born in America but both of my parents are from Karnataka and I am proud to be able to speak the beautiful language of Kannada
Love from Tamil Nadu
Wow this needed to be a documentary. This man is so pure and his interaction with his people are so wholesome
So cute! I love how his wife speaks of him and proud of him.

Ah yes religion.. good ol Islam
Man not only with malays every muslim keeps his religion first & everything next. Also their hated for us hindus is so much because in their view we worship idols & Allah will throw us into hell.
I'm Tamilian and his Tamil is wayyyy better than mine! I'm from Mumbai, India and was raised in Singapore. Studied Hindi in school, and wish I can be better at my mother tongue :) So proud of my Tamilian heritage, Mumbaikar origin and Singaporean upbringing
So much respect for Mr Harry. Singaporeans are genuinely sweet people. Much love from India 🙏
So fluent in tamil and unashamed. Beautiful story
He got the head wobble, he is indian!!
I'm Tamil girl 😎தமிழ் என்றும் வாழ்க 😍😘😘
Wow, my native language is Tamil and I applaud this person and his dedication to learn Tami. It is not an easy language to learn! And yes, his Tamil is very cute 😍 And in their marriage photo, they both looked so adorable!
Wow what a beautiful story of adoption, identity, culture and assimilation! Bless him and his family.
He has a good singing voice too!
This is so sweet. I’m Filipino-German but I was raised in a Filipino-Mexican household and feel more sound identifying as that 💜
Awwhh cute couple 😍
So proud of my language being spoken by the Chinese flawlessly. Yet my own people from India hesitate to speak my language with proper pronunciation. And this video goes on to show we all are one and the same. Beautiful story.
From the comment section I get to know how many other race people know tamil and supporting the language. This is actually a proud moment for everyone...
My sister .. we belong to the most successful diaspora with solid roots in India. We are a super proud race. We are not hitchhiking some other language and culture, unlike some other races ( ask me if you don't get this, I live in Malaysia now). We are one proud race Race as Indians and one helluva ethnicity, Tamil. We are great!
So random, but I’m studying Korean right now and the words for mother and father are the same as Tamil. V interesting
Tamil ❤️❤️
Cute n sweet couple. God bless them
I’m Pakistani Lady mixed Malayalee... moslem & got married to an English guy, my eldest sis married to an Indian guy then the elder married to a Chinese guy finally my youngest sis married to a Malay guy..
What’s so proud here is... we are Malaysian, and we are one Malaysian family except my hubby which is from US... well I feel proud of my parents... which are non Malay..
But they really my strongest idol for my knowledge & fluency in speaking more than a languages..... I hope my child will be like me which could speak in Bahasa Melayu, Chinese, Indian, English, Hindi, Malayalee, Pashto & lil bit of Jawa language...
jaymee khan I wouldn't include English as one of your written/ spoken languages. It's quite poor.
Learn other languages and then you will see that this amount of text is hard to write for a non-native
jaymee khan tamil
Isnt indian and hindi the same?😂
Aaawww... I feel dizzy after reading this

They are such a cute couple and I can tell they really love and care about each other with they way they interact and look at each other 🥺💞
He looks so happy :)
This shows Indians accept everyone who is a good human.
He even does the head bobble gesture when he talks! My friend who is Indian says many Indians do this when they are being expressive and its seen more in her culture. He's a true Indian! Very cute!
Fantastic couple, improvising their linguistics skill. Bravo...
The whole world would be like this in next 200 years.. Everyone mixing.
