I am so happy that one of the greatest (And First) horror games of all time has finally gotten an official English translation. It's incredible how a SNES Game can be genuinely terrifying.
Wow. "To bring time to a standstill, stop the big clock at the clock tower" is a lot more straightforward than the ambiguous "time will cause adherence" that I'm so used to.
I really hate how Jennifer opens the door, stand there for you a whole second like there's not an Scissor-murdering psycho behind her, then walks out. It’s definitely nerve-wracking watching her do it every time.
Many young girls were adopted at the same time by a unknow person who lives deep in the woods far away from the city and none of them tought that it was suspicious?
Well, the game doesn't explicitly say that they were only adopting girls - just any multiple kids to feed Dan and satisfy Bobby. And besides, Jen and Lotte thought it was suspicious, but they didn't have much of a choice - either they go by themselves and get cut up by Bobby, or escape back to the orphanage and get killed by Mary. I guess if a wealthy parent is eager to adopt multiple children with a generous salvation and reasonable explanation (like, due to the size of the mansion, it will take several kids to keep it clean), the executives are more then happy to ignore some suspicious details.
@@NAVEMAN3 Gotta love it. You can go to a high school and ask where a student is at and the secretary will pull up their files and tell you exactly what class they should be in without asking your relationship with the student.
Believe it or not, bunch of redditors had issue with that opening, claiming it somehow "modernized" the game, it's "western anime intro", "disrespecting to original" and bla bla bla, the usual redditor nonsense. I swear, some people just need to take a chill pill and breath fresh air once in a while.
10:46 She should have either disarmed him of the giant scissors or kept the shovel with her so she'd have something to defend herself with in case she ran into him again.
@@iconoclast575 Yeah, not every sequel has the 100% ending as the canon such as Silent Hill and Fatal Frame, also the ending "That Man Zengetsu" from Bloodstained was deemed the canon ending in that game. Also the other 2 Clock Tower games are separate timelines.
I honestly believe Jennifer wants to unalive with how incredibly slow she walks. Like girl, there’s people with massive scissors trying to unalive you wyd 😂
After what "wayforward" did with the the remaster of original Duck tales for NES (new levels, enemies, bosses, original voice acting, enhanced plot and story wise detailed lore), I was expecting them to do at least half of it. But this feels as such a letdown.
I’m kind of disappointed that it was an edit by Jon and not a part of the game. That would have been even funnier if the developers left that in to make the audience laugh.
Got this game yesterday. Got Ending D, E, G, and H for now😅 And by the way, is this Original mode? Cos scissorman doesn't seem to show up much and it took a bit longer for jennifer to recover her health or stamina meter. EDIT - I want to thank you for this video. I've managed to get Jennifer to learn about her Dad and Mary's evil intentions inside a hidden room covered with wall plaster. I've also done some experimenting and realized that triggering events also depends on Jennifer's Stamina. As I pass by the hallway, while Jennifer's stamina is red, as I follow the steps in your video, it didn't trigger a death event that takes place on the other side (Anne falling into the swimming pool to her death). Some or most guides online never explain that. That's why I got so confused with following the steps. EDIT 2 - I got Ending S!😆After following some steps. For my gameplay, compare to your video, some rooms got randomized around the West Wing. No wonder I couldn't find a proper map or chart online. And during my Ending S gameplay, Scissorman didn't show up much. So a few things to note: Events or Scenarios are triggered based on Jennifer's Stamina. So I have to do some running around to change Jennifer's Stamina before entering certain places or rooms.
@iconoclast575 Oh I see. Well, because of how random things get in this game, I'll just have to try my luck on getting different endings. And maybe not touch certain stuffs like an armor statue.
That's one of the random elements in the game. If you can't push over the shelf, it means you need to get the statue instead of the cane. In that case, you have to go to the library (with the deep hole on the left wall), then click on the bookshelves until Jennifer finds a note that mentions the statue. After that, you can get it behind one of the statues on the far right end of the west wing hallway (iirc).
Spoilers for future games What you see is an addition from later versions. Dan survives and reforms into a young boy, and goes onto terrorize Jennifer again in Clock Tower 2.
It's too hard to cut it down to a short list, but: Ring, Dawn of the Dead, Texas Chainsaw Massacre, The Exorcist, A Tale of Two Sisters, The Host, Fright Night, The Wailing, Nightmare on Elm Street, Noroi, Shin Godzilla, and Beetlejuice would be high up there. I could go on for a while lol.
As an old player this play a big nostalgia on me. But, I can't stop thinking that this is a big missed opportunity, as there was the possibility to include a second game mode, with enhanced animation, character image quality etc, but they kept only the 95 version. Old player still loves it but new players can't enjoy it properly. It could have been a good marketing move, to make it as a remake. but rewind include only the "prince of persia sands of time" ability, and no, all the rest quality of life, are not anything new for old players.
I think the red room is part of the added/restored content in Rewind. Not sure though, I never played the original. (Just a bit of the PS1 version when I was a kid)
You have to let Mary give you the drink of poison or drink it yourself in the kitchen to end up in the shed with him and you give the piece of ham to him. This is done if you want Ending A
I never played this, how does saving or checkpoints work if at all? Do you have to play through it in one sitting all the time? What was the significance of the bird's nest? Aw, kinda lame that just exiting the room and reentering changes Mary's position. That would have tricked me. Dang. that mural stuff would have confused the heck out of me. What did triggering the piano do? What was the significance of that doll flying? What about that library with specialized books? Are those places were items might change locations per playthrough? Wow, those are some interesting solutions. I would never have figured those out I guess.
Piano is optional but iconic. Checkpoint is the start of every room: this DOES mean in at least 2 situations you can get softlocked (getting drugged and trapped in the cage without ham and another one, I think), but for the most part dying is a tap on the wrist.
The bird's nest can contain the key to the west wing, if the box in the first room doesn't have it. Otherwise it does nothing, I think. I'm not sure if the flying doll really does anything either. It seems like it's just a scene they added for fun. Different dolls can come to life though, which is a nice touch.
@@bobosmith101I can confirm about the ham one. It’s a really dumb design and the player should be locked out of meeting up with Mary if you don’t have the ham.
I dont know y they not remastered the gameplay.. many game remastered but not must different.. suppose remastered like resident evil.. that real remastered totally different graphic and gameplay more realistic..
@@Rutawind Yeahhh it really feels like fan art. The original game was going for a very realistic aesthetic, like a live-action movie. Hell, they even digitized real photographs of people in costumes and props for the graphics (I think that scene of Jennifer finding her dad is actually a dude in a wig lol). I really don't think the anime look in the beginning is a good fit.

I'm assuming the orphanage was desperate enough to assign older kids without many questions and/or corrupted enough by a fat donation. Or something.

There is an alternate S-rank Ending, but with Laura instead of Anne. Getting there is only half the fun.
Almost forgot that the A-Rank has two alternate endings, either Laura or Anne gets pushed off by Mary Burrows at the Clock Tower interior.
Awesome. And that animated introz wow

I played the emulated translation of this years ago. Scared the shit out of me.
Ending S is great, but from what we've learned in the squeal it's not canon, Ending A is the canon.
