Because it was bad enough that she decided to go behind OP’s back and take her car even though she was told no but her father thought that since OP’s boyfriend helped pay for the car, even though he was already paid back the full amount, then in his mind that equals that the boyfriend had partial ownership which then by some twisted logic he believes that also means that his daughter had the right to use the car whenever she wanted. The report to the police was not only justified but also warranted. Because odds are that if OP didn’t do so to teach her a lesson then she would have more than likely done the same thing again over and over.

Parasite has no right to be angry since she was given a chance to immediately bring it back but instead says she'll be awhile. So naturally op was going to call the cops as parasite wasn't supposed to have the car in the first place. The entitled aholes are only mad about the consequences and no surprise that their demanding op apologize to them plus lie to the cops. I definitely agree with the comments saying that the entitled aholes will kick op out as they somehow feel they were wronged despite trying to take advantage of op. Completely disagree with ESH as it is a hill to die on and don't see how the commenter doesn't understand that. Just because they gave op a roof over her head doesn't mean that they can take advantage of anything they want. Parasite could have waited rather than practically steal op's car. Update, why am I not surprised that despite op saying no charges or anything they STILL think op tried to have them arrested and STILL demand an apology. Also, it's pretty common sense that if you don't know the person you DON'T want them using your car!! Op and BF are smart to not take sperm donor's words after everything. I would have to sue the unauthorized driver for whatever it costs for me to cover the damages. The sister was also from out of state. Ever try to sue someone who lives in another state? Story 3: everyone but you are terrible people. Like them you had no control over your parents getting married , they didn't have to like you but they did not have to be so verbally abusive to you. The parents however our worst because your dad didn't do anything, and your stepmom brunt of all of the abuse so she could have her picture perfect family. You have to deal with all of them when you were a child and had no choice, but you're an adult and can make the decision on your own now, and your logic is the exact reason why you're not the a-hole. Don't stay where you're not wanted, and since your stepmom pretty much had to force this do to put you in his wedding party, you're most definitely not wanted. She need to accept the fact that this family dynamic she keep trying to force is not real, and it never will be.

Last story -so this is very funny, because I literally just had this talk in the office yesterday, but the problem with young people not understanding how you need to dress in a professional environment, mostly comes from the fact that schools have relaxed their dress code. When I was in high school, I would not have gotten away with all the things that highschoolers nowadays wear. Or even the things they were wearing 10 years ago. When I was in high school sleeves had to be at least 3 inches wide across on your shoulder. Shorts or skirts could not be shorter than 3 inches above the back of your knees. And walking around with your midriff showing in the middle of the school day was gonna get you sent home.

1st Story: NTA. BF’s sister isn’t listed on the title or as a driver under OP’s insurance so technically no, she had no right to take the car even after being told no. That is a huge liability concern. In general if someone tells you no, it doesn’t mean go around asking other people until you get the answer you wanna hear. That is only something a small child would do. OP’s BF helping to pay for the car doesn’t mean crap about anything. You get a loan from the bank does that mean the bank gets to go take your car out for a Sunday drive? No. The car was taken without OP’s permission or her awareness, so yes the car was stolen. Car story, all those who thought OP was wrong very likely do not own a car as in bought it themselves with their own money. Let’s see, if we then took anything that you did own and bought with your own money and had it ‘borrowed’ you would be well pi**ed off so it’s even worse when it a very expensive car. Likewise if your ‘borrowed’ item was damaged you would be mad as hell. So why shouldn’t she file a police report - the sister was driving (taken without owner consent) a stolen car with no insurance tax or whatever. Now let’s look at the bigger picture; say the sister was involved in a fatal accident? The sister and the father (aiding and abetting a felony) would be liable and be sued, arrested with the sister doing prison time, the father given liability would lose any assets owned after being sued! I could go on and on so anyone who sympathises with the sister/father needs their heads fixed. Talk to someone who has lost someone to an uninsured driver and get some perspective!
