A gentleman, a champion and a true footy player. Bob Skilton deserves the term "legend" after his name.

This footage showing his ball skills over 50 years ago shows he ( and also Ian Stewart funnily enough) were a cut above the rest Brilliant.

"I love my club''...sums up the man.

These Open Mikes are really good, but this might be the quickest I've ever given a +1 to it because the opening minute of Bob Skilton talking convinced me this is a man to be revered. Just that opening minute. And even more so because I didn't and still am a novice to the DEEP history of the AFL then and now. This is GOLD.

"Chimp" One of the best players to never win a flag. To add to your history I think he might've been associated with Port Melbourne (in the old VFA) as a boy. Port and South Melbourne loathed each other, even though they played in different leagues. Port probably would've been one of the biggest clubs in the old VFL but were a club that would've made Collingwood and their fans look like girl scouts. Think Millwall but strong. Anyhow I think Skilton is a legend of the game.

Bobby is an absolute gemtleman, a champion footballer who gave it his all. He was worthy of his 3 brownlows. loved watching him play.

Funny how he asks about why he didn't coach the team he played for after he retired but the truth is many legends like Sheedy and Matthews had great coaching careers away from their playing club. Many like Hird, Tony Shaw, Voss, Schimma and many other champions failed as coaches at their old club.

The modern day supporter argues the greatest between Carey, Ablett and Matthews. The previous generation (or 2) argues Whitten, Skilts, Nicholls and Matthews. Absolute genius this bloke. So tragic he lost his son.

He was an excellent coach at Melbourne, especially in 1976. It wasn't mentioned here but Melbourne were literally a draw away from making the finals for the first time since 1964, when in the final round of the season Melbourne had to beat Collingwood at Vic park, which they did, and rely on the top team which was Carlton to beat the Fifth placed team which was Footscray at Princess park to finish in Fifth place, ( final five back then ). Well as it turned out Carlton and Footscray had a draw so Footscray stayed in Fifth place and Melbourne missed out by half a game in Sixth place.

Champion player but South Melbourne and Sydney Swans are like chalk and cheese! The almighty dollar had taken over by that time and if I had been in Bobby's shoes I would have cut my ties and moved on.

Scraping the bottom of the barrel. Met him down in Hobart in 2015 at the Salamanca markets at a local cafe. Tried to cut the line in front of me. Total flog.
