Sam Kekovich you weren’t a wasted talent. You have everything you had on the field. You were a member of North Melbourne Football Club’s first ever Premiership in 1975. But you have gone on to do remarkable things in Australian society since your playing days. Chief amongst which have been the correct use of Australian English vernacular. I love you mate because you’ve been such a wonderful example of being a good citizen.
You woukd of made a great pm sam , acually anything you tried you would have risen to the top. You are a great man sam , and as a kid i wore the number 4 with pride. May you live for many more healthy years ssm , its been a true pleasure to have watched you and i have enjoyed every minute that you have entertained us with your many skills.
I recall hearing Sam tell the story of why he was absent from the premiership team photo. He’d been out celebrating and ended up heading home with a young lady with whom he spent the night and most of the following day.
I only seen Sam play a couple of games, maybe 3. Best games I thought I would ever see from a human life form, even though North lost the first of those games. Hudson kicked enough goals for us ( Hawthorn ) to win , despite Sam winning every stoppage and belting the whole Hawthorn mid field at every contest. Having all 6 defenders on Hudson didn’t really help Sam to win the game, but then the other 5 Hawthorn forwards , even though allowed to play anywhere unapproved, didn’t actually do much except stand around clear of Sam ( didn’t want to get hurt) and marvel at Hudson outplaying 6 defenders and making them look like idiots.
Scraping the bottom of the barrel. Met him down in Hobart in 2015 at the Salamanca markets at a local cafe. Tried to cut the line in front of me. Total flog.
I just love listening to Sam, very articulate and well spoken. Interesting life and career. Excellent Open Mike

Deaths of despair and pinnacles of success. What a sentence
Intensely interresting highly articulate . Fairly uncommon for a footballer of any era to be so articulate .
I love the way the people of their era speak the English language with such clarity
Sam Kekovitch, a true legend.
Thanks for everything Sam… keep at it mate

Sheahan's obsessed with asking people how much money they have & how much they earn. That's pretty rude.
100%, I loved 'Open Mike' but he wastes valuable time in a half hour program with those questions
Big head

There must have been about 357 people in that local cafe, all coincidentally retired league footballers.
