You might have heard my mom's cousin's klezmer band, back then. They were from Pennsauken and played all over the Philadelphia / Camden area from around 1960 to the early '70s. I don't recall the name of their group, but his name was Sam Abrams.

This music is the most emotion conveyed, than in another music Ive ever listened to. People think the blues is sad but I can literally hear the hardship and cynicism in this music. The conversational aspects of it are amazing!

I played in a 'traditional' ceilidh band for some time and this type of music was always a big hit at weddings, although we didn't know many tunes I'm afraid. Sadly, although we gradually increased our repertoire, we all suffered major health issues and the band folded. Great fun whilst it lasted though!

Came here from John Zorns Acoustic Masada where he mixes free jazz and klezmer. I like it! Different and takes on its own type of journey.

Me too, Shoham. Only the roots from generations, from my father and mother are Jewish, and Hungarian and Roma. What a combination. Some time I hear crossovers from Gypsy to Klezmer, irony of two hated peoples, Jews and Roma.

I'm Serbian, and our "traditional" music is almost identical. *sniff* so much nostalgia *sniff*

I love it, but cannot help but feel like we have been reduced to a museum exhibit. Yiddish and Kletzmer....for the win.

This was indeed the heartfelt music of the majority of my precious innocent jewish people robbed persecuted then murdered in The Holocaust. But it is there for the soul of us jews today. As we are thier surviving relatives. But klezmer when played properly has an eternal message for today. That so very many people who are not jews from so very many different nations love klezmer is self explanatory. So I hope you will feel and love it also.Otherwise you would miss out greatly. Enjoy !

Few instruments perform such consistent glissandi as the clarinet when playing such music.
