This man is legendary.
Having taught himself throughout his childhood, he broke out into the professional music scene at the age of 18, joining the Monty Alexander group. Touring with the group launched him into the major jazz music scene, and he has played at the North Sea Jazz Festival, Montreux, Nice, and Athens etc., which culminated with his gigging with jazz-greats such as Dizzy Gillespie and Nina Simone.

If you think about it, All music is jazz. Mainly using the idea of improvisation behind the definition of jazz, all music was improvised at some point or another.

but what really is improvisation? can we really improvise atall? everything we play is something we have previously thought about or rehearsed in some shape or form even if its down to just plain inspiration from something we previously heard. Improv is hard lol

If you replace Obsession with Drugs it makes more sense. Jojo is an awesome drummer but I always get the feeling that he just went through a binge, he's got that crazy in his eyes.
I think that drums moved him into spiritual dimension and he shares this dimension...which to some people is unknown and looks weird :)

The thing about improvisatio, nnly docover the value of notes as well as pitch(key, scale, what have you.) this carries over how you phrase your improvisation. Let's say for conjecture's sake, I could improvise a fill that coincidentally has the same sticking and rhythms that another drummer came up, but how I phrase it would be very different then how my drum instuctors would phrase it, or how Jojo would, or even how you would. but I'm a drummer so I know? lol

He's known for being able to play drum loops thought to be physically impossible for a human to replicate on a drum set because he has pretty much perfected heel-toe and moller method.
BTW, He'd destroy everyone on WFD.
